TNA house show results - August 7, 2009 in Biloxi, Mississippi

By Scott Foy

The Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum seats about 9,000. About a third of it was roped off. They may have had 1,000 people there. Crowd was hot all night.

Suicide beat Shark Boy in the opener. Okay match. The touring ring looked smaller than the ring on TV and seemed to affect the timing of certain spots throughout the night. Audience seemed a bit unsure who to cheer for here so half the time they just chanted "TNA" instead. Crowd popped for Suicide winning. After the match, Suicide turned down Shark Boy's offer to drink a bottle water with him so Shark Boy laid him out with his Stone Cold Stunner routine. Crowd popped for that as well.

Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed beat the Beautiful People. So-so match but the crowd was into it.

Homicide retained the X Division title defeating Daniels and Consequences Creed. Good match.

Hernandez beat Eric Young. Practically a glorified squash. Hernandez came out with a local DJ I've never heard of named "Porkchop" who looked like a chubbier Don West and appeared to be even taller than Hernandez.

Intermission. Jeremy Borash announced that while this was their first time in Biloxi it wouldn't be their last and hinted that next time we might get a pay-per-view taping. I hear he uses that line a lot at house shows.

Beer Money, Inc. defeated Sheik Abdul Bashir & Kiyoshi. Easily the best match of the night and really should have been the main event. Robert Roode & James Storm came across as the biggest superstars on the show. Probably helped they were in there with Sheik Bashir who had no problem getting nuclear heat from the crowd. Biloxi is a military town with a rich history of hating wrestling Arabs. There's a reason why WWE chose Biloxi as the TV taping to have Sgt. Slaughter debut Colonel Moustafa during the Gulf War angle and the live Raw where Muhammad Hassan attacked Jerry Lawler.

AJ Styles over Samoa Joe (substituting for the originally advertised Kurt Angle). Decent match but a little disappointing given the two guys in it; didn't feel like a main event, in part because it was fairly short and it had the misfortune of having to follow the Beer Money match. Also, from a personal standpoint, out of shape, buzzcut, face paint on one cheek Samoa Joe no longer exudes the menace or star power he once did.

Eric Young came out again and took the mic from Jeremy Borash to demand Mick Foley come out and overturn his loss earlier which he blamed on biased American officiating. Foley instead challenged Young to a fight. One minute of Young beating on Foley and then Foley making a comeback and giving him Mr. Socko; Sheik Bashir and Kiyoshi then ran in and got socked for their cause. Afterwards, Foley brought out all the TNA stars that evening to sign autographs and Jeremy Borash announced that for $20 fans could come into the ring and get their picture taken with Foley as he sat in the corner in a folding chair looking like a homeless Santa.
