Second Strikeforce play-by-play

Internet in the building sucks so I'll be doing a second ongoing play-by-play here in case Dave can't get his connection working. When and if he can, he'll continue to update his play-by-play which is located elsewhere on the main page.

JT Money vs. Jay Hieron. This fight blew. I mean, a horrible fight, and thank God they made the decision to not air this one on the live show. It consisted of three rounds of Hieron taking him down and doing almost nothing with him, and Money doing nothing on the bottom except survive. Thunderous boos at points, particularly in the third round. Hieron ended up winning the decision 30-27. Destined to be worst fight on the show, God willing.

Some good stuff on the undercard. Every other fight had a finish, either submission or knockout/TKO.

Fabricio Werdum beat Mike Kyle fast. It went to the ground quickly. Kyle tried an armbar but didn't come close, then Werdum pulled him into a guillotine for the submission. Pretty much exactly as one would expect.

They had an interview with Gina along with her trainer Randy Couture. Fans went nuts for both. Gina has tremendous charisma just standing there smiling.

Gilbert Melendez vs. Mitsuhiro Ishida. Two rounds in and this fight is great. Slow start, but then Gilbert got a takedown and went to work. Crowd loves Melendez since he's from nearby San Jose. More of the same in round two, far more one-sided for Melendez, and Ishida is busted open going into the third. Loud "GILBERG!" chants here. Melendez finished him in round three, knocking him into the fence, pounding on him, faking a choke three times (that was weird) and then pounding him repeatedly in the head until the referee stopped it. Turned into a really dominant performance.

Gegard Mousasi dismantled Renato Babalu to win the light heavyweight title. Babalu couldn't take him down. Mousasi then quickly got the takedown and pounded him into oblivion. Fight went like a minute.

Attendance is 13,524.

Gina Carano vs. Cris Cyborg is next. Here we go~!

Huge ovation for both girls, particularly Gina. Far and away the biggest star on the show. Just amazing. Cyborg was booed like crazy in her ring intros, so I guess the cheering earlier was just because her appearance meant this fight was next. Gina's pop was even bigger here than before.

Cyborg won with about 1 second left in the first round. She came out basically being the female Wanderlei Silva. They had an incredibly exciting fight and Gina was like the best babyface in the history of the world as there is no better definition of living and dying with a person than what was seen in this fight. All action for 4:59 seconds. Cyborg took her down a few times but also failed on takedowns and landed with Gina on top. They scrambled and got really tired really fast. It was clear it wasn't going five rounds. Finally with about ten seconds left Cyborg got her down and started landing a series of hard, hard shots. It was a question of whether she'd survive the round, but in the end she didn't. She was up and smiling a minute or two later and hugging Cyborg.
