C.B. Dollaway b Jay Silva
Dollaway dominated the fight with his wrestling, but in between takedowns got decked in the second round, leading to 29-28 scores across the board.
Jeremy Stephens b Justin Buchholz
Stephens scored two quick knockdowns on Buchholz, who was bleeding badly after the second one. The doctors stopped the fight on the blood.
Mike Pierce b Brock Larson is a pretty huge upset by 30-27 scores across he board.
Pierce scored one takedown per round. Larson scored zero takedowns. Very little action.
Ryan Jensen b Steve Steinbeiss. Jansen put on the Anaconda vise, Steinbeiss signaled to the crowd that he was fine, and Scott Armstrong stopped the match. I can't believe they copied a WWE PPV finish. Actually it was a guillotine and the ref was Gary Ritter in this case, and boy were the people unhappy.
Mike Pyle b Chris Wilson via guillotine in the third round. Pyle was winning the fight up to that point.
Brian Stann b Steve Cantwell in the third best of their best of three series. Stann won 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 in a match where all three rounds could have gone either direction. I was told definitely closer than scores indicate, but that you can't say they were bad scores either.
On DirecTV, HDNet bought advertising on the show plugging "Inside MMA" and their Friday night MMA shows.
Tim Credeur vs. Nate Quarry opens the TV show
First round almost all standing. Credeur was quicker and landed more often. The key blow was a right that nailed the ear and Quarry went down. Credeur tried to finish with a choke but couldn't get it fully locked in, and Quarry got back to his feet. But Credeur was landing more late. 10-9 Credeur
Most of the action in round two was in the first minute. Credeur was taking Quarry apart standing but Quarry landed a short right that staggered Credeur and then knocked him down with another right. The rest of the round was Quarry on top. Credeur defended well, but never got off his back nor tried any submissions. Quarry got a few punches and elbows in as the round went on. Quarry's round so 19-19 at this point.
Great third round. Crowd loved it. Started the same as round two with Credeur landing punch after punch and Quarry caught him with a right and put Credeur down. Credeur got up from the ground this time. Both guys were exhausted and bleeding at this point and just firing. Quarry rocked Credeur who somehow wouldn't go down. Credeur took another hard punch and went down again. On the ground, Credeur again defended well but took a little bit of punishment. After a stand-up, Credeur threw some high kicks. Quarry had a nasty hematoma under his right eye. Quarry has to win 29-28 overall.
Scores were 29-28, 29-27 and 29-28 for Quarry. Crowd cheered both guys a lot when they did their interview after.
Now we've just had consecutive commercials for Franklin vs. Belfort and for Mayweather vs. Marquez
Carlos Condit vs. Jake Ellenberger
Another great round. Ellenberger got a takedown off a punch, later when Condit got up, Ellenberger decked him with an overhand right. Ellenberger went for D'arce choke, a guillotine standing and did a great high kick late in the round. Condit had a bad round. 10-9 Ellenberger
Closer round. Ellenberger got a takedown, and as Condit was just about up, he was taken down again. Condit used a Kimura to sweep, but when he went for a choke, Ellenberger used the opening to sweep to the top. Not as good a round as the first but strong fight. I'd go 10-9 Ellenberger but this round could easily go the other way.
Condit worked him over almost the entire round since he was fresher in this round. Condit was bleeding from the left eye, but got the takedown and was effective with ground and pound most of the round. Condit was giving him a good beating as the round ended. The second round will decide the winner. I've got 29-28 Ellenberger, but this could easily go the other way.
29-28 Condit 29-28 Ellenberger 29-28 Condit. Fans booed the decision but can't say it was a bad one. Probably would have heard the same amount of booing had it gone the other way. This is one of those fights where your scores and who won could have been different, because overall I do think Condit won the fight based on the third round domination, but scores say different.
Good fights so far.
Rich Franklin interview. Rich said he wanted the Henderson fight, but if the fans don't want to see it, he's up for this fight, called Belfort an MMA legend. Said he's going to have to move his head and use footwork, because if he stands there, he'll get hit a lot. Said he's improved his transition game.
Gray Maynard vs. Roger Huerta
Huerta looked good winning round one. Almost all standing. Maynard got some shots in but never hurt Huerta, and Huerta had a strong flurry at the 3:25 mark that won him the round. Huerta seemed quicker on his feet, better with kicks and the one time Maynard went for a takedown, Huerta sprawled well. 10-9 Huerta.
Maynard did better here including staggering Huerta with a punch, but overall Huerta's speed and movement saw him connect more and he should be up 20-18 at this point. Maynard had the two best punches, a hard right and the left jab which was the blow that hurt Huerta. The entire fight was standing so Maynard was content to stand and hope for the big shot while being outpointed.
Another good close fight. Maynard won this round because he decided to wrestle. He got a takedown, and then nearly had a finish with a combination head scissors and Kimura which looked like it was tearing the shoulder joint out. Huerta didn't tap and even got on top by escaping. Maynard was able to take him down again. I've got 29-28 Huerta.
Scoires were 30-27, 28-29 and 30-27 for Maynard. Crowd was definitely behind Maynard. I don't know about Maynard winning the first round, because at least in round two he got the two best punches in.
Melvin Guillard vs. Nate Diaz headlines the show
Another good round. Guillard decked Diaz early and by the end of the round, Diaz's right eye looked like hell. Diaz scored two takedowns and Guillard did a cool looking judo hip toss. Guillard's feet and head movement was strong. Guillard 10-9.
Guillard exploded off the cage with a takedown, and then Diaz caught him in a guillotine and Guillard had to tap. Guillard started thinking about takedowns because Diaz did have the conditioning edge. But he couldn't afford to be down there for any length of time because the Diaz submission skills.
