Fabricio Werdum vs. Antonio Silva
First round saw Silva put Werdum down right away with punches and had Werdum in trouble in the first round. Silva took him down and let Werdum up. Werdum survived but was thrown down like rag doll and Silva motioned for Werdum to get up. Werdum came back with a knee and scored with a hard right. They traded punches late. Very good round for heavyweights, clearly 10-9 for Silva.
Second round saw Werdum reverse Silva while on the ground and score with ground and pound. Silva got up, but Werdum took him down later in the round and scored with more ground and pound. Werdum's round evening it up 19-19.
Werdum came out with a double leg takedown and scored with more punches. Werdum also got a few knees from the clinch. Silva came back with punches but Werdum scored with knees, got a takedown and more punching on the ground to clinch the fight. The match ended with Werdum getting Silva's back and throwing punches. Clearly a 29-28 for Werdum.
Unanimous scores of 29-28 for Werdum. Good fight, well paced for big guys.
Gegard Mousasi vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
Damn good first round. Sokoudjou probably was better on the stand-up, believe it or not. Mousasi had two takedowns and also landed on top when Mousasi tried a takedown. Sokoudjou lost dominant position twice when trying a guillotine. Late in the round, Mousasi on his back got an ankle pick to get Sokoudjou off his feet. 10-9 Sokoudjou
Mousasi started off in a clinch by throwing knee after knee to both of Sokoudjou's thighs taking away his power. Mousasi tried a takedown again but Sokoudjou blocked and landed on top. But Mousasi went for an armbar and revrsed while doing so. He started throwing punches from the top. Sokoudjou pulled his hand and was thinking of tapping early, but didn't. After a lot of hard solid punches, he pulled out the hand again, but before Sokoudjou could make his own decision to tap, the ref stopped it. Good match.
Jake Shields vs. Jason Mayhem Miller for the middleweight title.
Crowd big into Miller because he won them over with a ring entrance where he danced with a bunch of cheerleaders. But it only took Shields seconds to get the first takedown and got Miller's back. Miller was calm and made faces like Shields' offense didn't hurt him. Shields got a second takedown and ground and pound. Late in the round, Miller came on with a high slam takedown and later did a sort of German suplex and ground and pound. The round was real close, but Shields had more advantage time so 10-9 for him.
Shields was bleeding early in the round from bonking heads, but dominated grappling for more than four minutes of the round, including getting Miller's back. Miller's key to win was to keep it standing and he's been unable to do so. Miller did get a reversal in the last 40 seconds and did some ground and pound. Solid round for Shields 20-18
Miller is unable to keep it standing, but got the first takedown, but Shields used a single leg and dominated the grappling most of the round, got side mount, full mount, and got another takedown. Both were really tired and Miller got Shields' back and had him in a choke and the choke was in but the round ended. Shields won most of the round, but to me, that near finish in the closing seconds gives him the round, 29-28 Shields at this point.
Shields dominated the round with his wrestling and grappling. He controlled the positioning virtually the entire round. Shields didn't do any real damage but Miller didn't do anything, 39-37 Shields so Miller needs a finish.
The expectation that Shields would tire first turned out to be a false premise. He dominated this round with grappling again. He dominated positioning got his back and held a figure four triangle to keep Miller in place. Miller seemed to be the one tired here. Miller got up and tried a guillotine but Shields got out and continued to outgrapple Miller. 49-46 is the score I have but it could be 50-45. Miller hung in but he was dominated most of the way.
Scores were 48-47, 49-46, 49-46 for Shields. Crowd booed heavily, not becuase the wrong guy won but because they really liked Miller.
Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers
Great first round. Rogers caught him with a jab and busted his nose. Still, Emelaineko rocked him hard with punches and threw him around as well. There was one point where Rogers reversed Fedor when Fedor went for a Kimura and pounded him hard. Fedor got back on top late in the round. Round could really go either way. I thougth Fedor was the stronger fighter but Rogers clearly did the most damage with ground and pound. I'd probably go wth Roers.
Fedor fired away in the second round but Rogers blocked most of them. Rogers bulled him into the cage. He threw a knee to the body. Rogers is tired and Fedor knocked him out.
