Thanks for joining us. We'll be recapping the show here throughout the evening, then Dave, Vinny and I will be up very late tonight discussing not only this show, but last night's UFC and all the weekend news.
Show looks really good on paper.
Red vs. Homocide for the X-Title. Great opener. Red won after shoving him off the top and hitting a middle rope code red. If there is any complaint, it's that they peaked and then it went on a little longer after that, and the finish was a bit anticlimactic. But a nearly four-star match to open the show. So far so good.
Sarita & ODB & Taylor Wilde vs. Beautiful People with the Knockouts singles and tag titles all on the line. The Beautiful People came out, turned their backs, and just as they were about to bend over the director cut to a shot of the metal ramp. I can't make this stuff up. Well, I have seen worse. Crowd gave Lacey hell, chanting "YOU CAN'T WRESTLE". Finish saw ODB beat up all three heels all by herself, then pin Madison with the TKO.
Desmond Wolfe did a good promo saying he knew Angle better than Angle knew himself, whereas Angle knew nothing about him. He said Kurt would bow to his howl, then called us all wankers.
British Invasion vs. Beer Money vs. Motor City Machine Guns for the TNA Tag Team Titles. Brits retained after double-teaming Roode. No idea what happened to the Guns, they just disappeared. Eric Young ran out near the finish and attacked Storm right in front of the ref. Then Nash came out and went straight after Young, but instead of attacking him it was a SWERVE. Nash and Eric, after feuding for months, are now for absolutely no good reason best friends. Nash hit Storm with the Legend's belt and that lead to the finish. Match was good but then fell off a cliff with the booking.
Tara vs. Awesome Kong in a cage match. Don't ask why this is in a cage. There were a few good spots, such as Kong taking a powerbomb off the middle rope and Tara hitting a Thesz press off the top of the cage for the pin. Rest of the match was below average.
Tara challenged ODB to a match afterwards.
Rhino & Team 3-D vs. Hernandez & Matt Morgan & Pope D'Angelo Dinero. They had to tell the story that Pope might turn on his partners. Very important for that to make sense even though it made about zero sense for Rhino and Team 3-D to get together. Your typical 3-D six-man. Finish saw Hernandez going for the border toss on Rhino, but D-Von hit him with a chair and Rhino gored him for the pin.
Bobby Lashley vs. Scott Steiner. They announced immediately before this match that this, the first bout of their feud, was now a no-DQ streetfight. Should have just lowered the cage again while they were at it. Steiner beat him clean after hitting him with a pipe. They tried really hard, I'll give them that. It was scary as hell because it looked like they were going to kill each other on half of these spots. Don't know if this means Lashley is going to Strikeforce or what, but this was a pretty decisive finish.
Kurt Angle vs. Desmond Wolfe. Excellent match. Angle beat him clean with a triangle choke. Match was great and would have been even better in front of an ROH crowd, but this TNA crowd didn't seem to understand any of Nigel's finishers. The first time they did the lariat spot, the crowd reacted like it was any other clothesline. They did pop big for the finish. This made the show worth it and we've still got the main event, which should be awesome.
8. AJ vs. Daniels vs. Joe for the TNA World Title. Not as good as 2005, but that's hardly a knock. An awesome match, and very different from the Angle vs. Desmond match as it was one giant collection of three-way spots, nearly every single one of which went off without a hitch. They pulled out all the stops doing things they haven't done regularly in years, such as AJ's Fosbury flop dive. Daniels avoided the muscle buster at the finish and hit the BME, but then AJ flew in out of nowhere with a springboard 450 and covered Joe for the pin.
