TNA House Show Report - Coventry: January 28th 2010

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrint
Show opened up with Jeremy Borash doing his usual thing, promising backstage passes to the loudest people in the crowd, practically guaranteeing they'd be hot all night. In terms of attendance, the Skydome wasn't sold out by any means, as a lot of the upperdeck and cheap seats were readily available. An unbelieveable amount of Beer Money shirts in the crowd for sure.

Match 1: Chris Sabin Vs. Suicide. Good little opener, Sabin is always great and Suicide kept up with him, but did look a little sluggish at times. Crowd was super into it, with a lot of mixed support for both guys. Suicide won the match with the Suicide Solution.

Match 2: The Beautiful People Vs. Sarita & Taylor Wilde. Before the match, Earl Hebner was introduced, complete with his own titantron video, for the easy chants. People were into Velvet Sky in a big way. Sarita and Taylor both looked really good, Sarita especially. Taylor gets the hot tag, and Sarita at one point waylaid Velvet with a kick to the jaw, just brutal. Earl Hebner stepped in near the end, pulling Madison Rayne backwards and sticking his tongue down her throat. Then, out of nowhere, The Beautiful People got the pin. Not the best in terms of ring-work, but people ate it up.

Match 3: Pope D'Angelo Dinero Vs. Desmond Wolfe. The Pope is awesome, and brought so much personality to the table with just his entrance. Wolfe obviously got a huge ovation and was absolutely beloved. Up there as being one of the best matches on the show, and the crowd was heavily leaning towards Wolfe, but didn't boo Pope when he won with an STO.

Match 4: Gauntlet Match - British Invasion & Eric Young Vs. Beer Money and Team 3D. Despite the tendency for Brits to support their own, without a doubt Beer Money and 3D were the favourites. Match worked like War Games without a cage or the submission stip in terms of entrants. After the Wassup, Beer Money Suplex and the 3D, this one was done. Post-match they milked the crowd for all it was worth for perhaps the second loudest reaction of the night.

During intermission Dixie Carter took photos with the fans. She watched the whole show from the crowd and got in the ring after the break to thank everyone for coming. D'Lo Brown was also watching the majority of the show from the crowd as well.

Match 5: Amazing Red Vs. Hamada. Oh yes, an intergender X Division Match. As a match, this worked very well. Story was that Red didn't want to hit Hamada, and acted sorrowful after hitting a tackle that sent her to the mat, all the while Hamada was going full tilt. Hamada and the crowd were egging Red to hit her, and he wouldn't, which made it easier to buy her on offense. Finally, Red snapped into it and the final 3 minutes had the crowd buzzing, with Hamada getting a great near fall with a cradle shock, before Red hit a spinning front kick and the Red Star Press to get the win. Post-match hug ended a hell of a match.

Match 6: Daniels & Rhino Vs. Hernandez and Kurt Angle. First of all, Hernandez got on the mic and announced Matt Morgan couldn't be there, and that he had to find a replacement. Cue Angle's music and by far the biggest pop of the night. Angle was phenomenal in working the crowd with them in a frenzy from start to finish for everything he did. At one point, the crowd began chanting "Angle, give us a wave, Angle Angle give us a wave!", which led to a thunderous reaction when Kurt did, in fact, wave at the crowd. Unreal. Finally Angle got in, hit some suplexes and hit the Olympic Slam for the pin.

Match 7: AJ Styles Vs. Samoa Joe for the TNA World Title. Both men got super reactions, and this AJ heel turn is going to be a hard one to pull off. Live, you just don't want to boo the guy. Styles was awesome bumping and selling for Joe's stuff early. Some good exchanges of trademark stuff before the end when the referee got bumped after AJ pulled him in the way of a Joe avalanche. Joe got the choke and AJ tapped out, then Styles hit a low blow and a shot with the title belt for the pin. Good match, not at the level of their PPV matches, to be expected. After the match, Styles proclaimed himself the "Dirtiest Player in the Game".

JB thanked us for coming, and that was that. Overall a solid show, very good energy all night.
