ROH on HDNet TV Report
February 1, 2010
by Paul Collins

-        They start the show with a flashback to last week when they
announced the 2/13 rematch in New York between Austin Aries and Tyler
Black that will feature 3 judges.  They show Aries picking Kenny King,
Black picking Roderick Strong and Jim Cornette picking himself as the
final judge.

-        Cornette promo saying that Black and Strong have requested that they
be able to compete against each other, so he has granted the request
for the main event tonight.

MATCH ONE: Rhett Titus v. Delirious w/ Daizee Haze
-        Titus asked for a timeout in the early going of the match after a
flurry of early offense from Delirious.  Titus was able to turn it
around after tossing Delirious’ neck against the top rope.

-        Titus using a lot of offense meant to slow Delirious down.
Delirious battles back, and while he gets the advantage for a brief
time, the match then turns into a see-saw battle.  Delirious goes up
top for Shadows Over Hell, but Titus turns it into a top-rope X-Factor
for a close 2 count.  After he is able to recover, Delirious hits
Titus with the Bizzaro Driver (cradle Michinoku Driver) for the win.
**

-        Mike Hogewood and Dave Prazak preview the upcoming February 13 show
in Manhattan, and then talk about the main event between Strong and
Black.

-        Promo from Strong.  He believes Tyler can beat Aries straight up,
but he had better bring his A-game because he’s going to judge the
match right down the middle.  He asked for the match with Black
tonight because he knows he can beat him, and then no one can deny him
what he deserves: an ROH Title match.

-        The replay Kevin Steen turning on El Generico from Final Battle.
Prazak mentions how he can’t get enough of seeing the clip.

-        Kyle Durden interviews Steve Corino backstage.  Durden says that
Corino takes credit for Steen’s attitude change.  Corino, wearing a
suit, says Steen turning on Generico was the greatest thing he’s ever
seen, because Steen has always had the tools to be the ROH World
Champion, but Generico was holding him back so he got what he
deserved.

-        Durden said locker room opinion was that Steen and Generico were
friends and partners, but then Corino showed up.  Corino said he wants
the names of the people other than Colt Cabana and Generico who are
saying this.  He looks off screen and tells “Sugarfoot” Alex Payne to
come over because he’s a good kid and wouldn’t lie.  Payne told him
that what he and Steen have done is sick and that they should be
ashamed.  Steen comes up from behind Payne, grabs him then drops him
with a lariat.  Steen asks Corino if he should be ashamed of THIS, and
Corino says no, so give him one more.  Steen gives him a boot as
Corino yells, “Anyone else have a problem?”

MATCH TWO: Sonjay Dutt v. Colt Cabana
-        Colt with the silly antics and wacky Euro chain wrestling early,
even getting the referee involuntarily involved.  Cabana was using his
size against Dutt’s speed.  The referee then got involved voluntarily,
pushing Colt out of the corner, allowing Dutt to take advantage with a
kick to Colt’s head.  He briefly gets the heat on Colt, but Cabana
gets his knees up on a Lionsault attempt.

-        A little later, Dutt nails a big splash from the top rope for a 2
count.  Dutt then goes for the Camel Clutch, Colt reverses and goes
for the Billy Goat’s Curse, then they exchanges moves until Colt hits
the Colt .45 for the win.  **

-        Another forced babyface Tyler Black promo saying he wants to prove
to Roderick that he is being straight-up with him, and that he will be
getting the first title shot when he (Tyler) beats Aries for the
title.  He says he knows Strong thinks he can beat him, but he knows
he will be beating Strong tonight.  It came off as bland as it reads.

-        Recap of Briscoe Brothers winning the belts at Final Battle, then
being attacked by the Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero & Claudio
Castignoli) after the win.

-        Kings of Wrestling promo.  Hero says that they dominated, then had
their differences, but they have matured and are stronger than ever.
Claudio then said they are back with a purpose: the ROH World Tag Team
Titles, because they are the Kings, and Kings reign supreme.

-        Kyle Durden in the ring with Shane Hagadorn, manager of Hero, as
well as Prince Nana, managaer of Claudio.  He asks them how they were
able to bring these two back together, and what the connection between
the (Hagadorn and Nana) is.  Nana says the connection is the money,
power and respect, and that’s all you need to know.

-        Eddie Kingston comes down to the ring and confronts both guys.  He
says he wants them to admit that it was Hero and Claudio that attacked
him, and he wants to know where they are.  They both denied it was
their men that did it, and that the Kings aren’t in the building.
When Kingston tries to intimidate them, Nana says it wasn’t the Kings
who did it, but these men.  That is when Joey Ryan, Erick Stevens and
Mr. Ernesto Osiris hit the ring and lay in the boots on Kingston until
Necro Butcher comes down for the save.

-        Next week: American Wolves v. The Young Bucks.  They show a recap of
their **** match from November 23.

MAIN EVENT: Roderick Strong v. Tyler Black – Pick 6 Contenders Match

-        Good chain wrestling to start off.  Aries comes down to the ring
with a big tub of popcorn and a bottle of wine.  Dave Prazak says that
any bottle of wine you unscrew is very classy.  Aries takes a seat in
the isle, and throws some popcorn in the ring.  Strong throws Black to
the outside, and Aries dumps the tub of popcorn onto Black.  As Aries
takes a seat and is about to enjoy his wine, Black superkicks the
plastic cup into his face and takes him out.

-        Strong takes advantage and works Black over for the heat.  Being the
“Messiah of the Backbreaker,” Strong works over Black’s back.  As
Black tries a comeback, they knock each other down and go to the
outside.  Black gains an edge there, and hits a moonsault off the
baracade.

-        Back inside, Black gets a close fall.  From there, they trade close
falls.  Strong with a superplex for a 2 count.  Black with an F-5 as
well as a buckle bomb, both for a near fall.  Aries comes down the
isle all fired up and trying to get to the ring, but is being held
back by a number of referees.  He is able to get to the apron when
Black pushes Strong into him, sending him and the refs flying.  When
Strong and black get back to their feet, Black finishes Strong with
the superkick.  ***

-        Aries attacks Black and all of the referees.  Strong comes to the
rescue, dropping Aries with a dropkick.  As Black is winding up for an
attack of his own, Kenny King finally got to the ring to drag Aries
away.  It seemed like King was late on his cue.  The show ended with
Strong and Black arguing in the ring.

-        Apparently the main even was a Pick 6 Match, but Black was never
announced as being in the Pick 6 when it all started.  Also, the Pick
6 is a new concept, so the fact that they never mentioned anything
about it was a little frustrating.  They need to reiterate it every
week and give standings on TV.  It may have been a mistake by ring
announcer Bobby Cruise, but if it was, do some editing.   Also, the
reveal of The Embassy being Kingston’s attacker was abrupt, but
hopefully the matches from here on out make up for it.  The matches
this week were good, but these confusions made the show slack a little
bit.
