ROH on HDNet TV Report
February 15, 2010
by Paul Collins

- The show started out with dueling promos from Erick Stevens and Necro Butcher, with clips of Stevens turning on Necro, as well as The Embassy being revealed as the one who attacked Eddie Kingston.  Stevens did reasonably well, saying he doesn't care what the fans think, and that Prince Nana is his boss, so when he was told there was "a thorn in his side" in Necro, he had no problem taking him out.  That's because for him, this is all business, so he says he doesn't care if Necro's kids go hungry.  As a counter, Necro cut a very believable promo saying he has dispatched everyone Nana has sent after him, including Bison Smith and Jimmy Rave, and mentioned how this is personal.  This was really well done and a solid opener.

- Mike Hogewood and Dave Prazak talk briefly about Tyler Black beating Austin Aries to become the new ROH World Champion this past weekend in NYC.  Even though I know it's tough for the company to get this stuff produced, it would have been nice to see at least a picture of it.  They also mentioned the main event being Delirious against Kevin Steen in the Pick 6 Contender's Series.

MATCH ONE: The Embassy (Joey Ryan & Erick Stevens) w/ Prince Nana & Mr. Ernesto Osiris v. Necro Butcher & Eddie Kingston

- The match started out as a brawl on the outside, with Necro and Kingston having the upper hand, including Necro throwing a plastic shopping bag over Ryan's head.  The Embassy was finally able to get an upper hand once the match went back into the ring.  They got the heat on Kingston, taking their time to work him over.

- Kingston finally tagged Necro in, and the Butcher sent the match to the outside again.  Osiris grabbed a chair and tried to use it on Necro, but he got caught and the Butcher took control of the chair.  That sent The Embassy to the isle, where Stevens was trying very hard to get back into the ring, but Nana, Osiris and Ryan held him back because they didn't want to fight while Butcher had a chair.  Therefore, they took the countout.  The match wasn't good, but it was a decent build toward a gimmick match.  *

- Kyle Durden is backstage with Kevin Steen and Steve Corino.  Steen gave Durden a pointer: forget about El Generico.  At Final Battle, he finally had a moment of clarity thanks to Steve Corino, and now everything is clearer.  Steen moved closer to Durden, getting mouth-to-forehead with him.  He added that if Durden wants to feel bad about a masked wrestler, then feel bad for what he's about to do with Delirious tonight, because he's just getting started. He then finishes by kissing Durden on the forehead.  Very good and effective promo.

MATCH TWO: "Skullkrusher" Rasche Brown v. Christian Marino

- SQUASH!  They are still playing up Brown as the hottest free agent in Ring of Honor.  During the match, Shane Hagadorn was in the isle watching the match and clapping at the work of Brown.  Burning Hammer for the win.  No stars.

- There was a highlight package of the American Wolves-Young Bucks main event from last week, including The Briscoes coming out before the match and offering the winner a title shot.  The Bucks went over on the Wolves, and they reiterated their point from last week, asking what was next for Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards as a team.  Next week, with the titles on the line, Jay & Mark Briscoe defend against the Young Bucks.

- Kings of Wrestling promo.  Chris Hero says they've gotten back together because they are more mature and better than they were their first time around.  Claudio Castignoli says they want the belts and they will get them because "Kings reign supreme."

- Jim Cornette once again pushed the youth and territorial expansion of the company.  He also pushed the upcoming tournament to crown the first Ring of Honor World Television Champion starting on March 8.

MATCH THREE: Cheech & Cloudy v. Sonjay Dutt & Andy "Right Leg" Ridge

- Dutt got on the mic before the match and proclaimed to the world that he has "swagga."  To prove this, he said he would take anyone and take them to the top.  Mr. Ridge is that person.

- Lots of quick double team moves by Cheech & Cloudy, but Dutt was able to get in some offense and gain the advantage.  He and Ridge did some quick tags, but then had some big miscommunications.  They collided during a double team and Ridge kicked Dutt by accident.  Cloudy then hit a somersault splash off of Cheech's shoulders for the win.  *1/2

- Dutt got on the mic and said that Ridge does NOT have swagga, and gave him a clothesline followed by a Camel Clutch.

- A brief backstage promo with the Briscoe Brothers.  Jay says they are the best team in Ring of Honor history.  He also gave credit to the Young Bucks, saying Matt & Nick got them in New York City when last they met.  Mark said they were tough, but this time they would take it.

MAIN EVENT: Kevin Steen v. Delirious w/ Daizee Haze

- Dave Prazak finally reminded people about the concept of the Pick 6.  It would still be nice if they listed the Top 6, though.

- Steen went for the Package Piledriver and the Sharpshooter very early, but couldn't get either one.  When he couldn't do it, Steen went to the outside and stalled.  When Delirious would come out to get him, Steen would go into the ring, and they did this a couple of times until Delirious finally caught Steen on the outside.  When it went back inside, Delirious tried to go to the top rope, but Steen dropped him arm and shoulder-first on the rope, and that would become Steen's focus on offense for the entire match.

- Steen would continue the power attack on the arm and shoulder until Delirious was finally able to reverse a suplex and send Steen to the outside.  Delirious followed it up by going to the top rope and hitting a somersault plancha.

- Back on the inside, Steen reversed a Delirious hurricanrana into a power bomb, then a Sharpshooter, but Delirious got the rope to break it up.  Steen tries a Swanton, but Delirious got his knees up, and got a close fall with a Cobra Stretch suplex.  Corino walked out to the ring, which gained the attention of Delirious, who had one leg out of the ring.  Steen kicked the rope, which was pretty much a low blow, and dropped Delirious head first onto his knee for a 2 count.  Delirious was able to get a comeback and went for Shadows Over Hell, but Steen moved and finished the match with a Crossface for the submission.  ***

- Next week will have Tyler Black for the first time as champion.

- The promos this week were pretty solid as a whole, and while some of the matches got low star rankings, they were at least building toward future storylines.  Whether they end up having good potential is another story.  The show still lacks that must-see quality that Cornette has been pushing for, but hopefully they can get it going.
