ROH TV report

ROH on HDNet TV Report
March 1, 2010
by Paul Collins
- Compared to the slow show last week, this show took a nice step up.
- Starts off with a photo montage with audio if Tyler Black winning
the title from Austin Aries. They were very sure to remind us all
that it was coming soon to DVD.
MATCH ONE: Dark City Fight Club (Jon Davis & Kory Chavis) v. American
Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards)
- No handshake, just a lot of trash talk to start off. Wolves ambush
the Fight Club with kicks, and almost got a quick win on Chavis. They
kept the heat on him before Davis came in and planted Richards with a
slam, allowing Chavis to finally get a tag. That turned the heat on
Richards, and Dark City used a few power moves before Richards
suplexed Chavis and tagged in Edwards. Fisherman's Buster on Chavis
that was broken up by Davis. Richards got back to work by hitting a
swinging DDT from the apron to the floor on Davis. They worked over
the knee of Chavis which allowed Edwards to get a half crab, but Davis
powered through Richards to break it up. Davis then hit a huge spear
that sent Richards to the floor. That opened the door for Dark City
to hit Project Mayhem (powerbomb/neckbreaker combo) for the victory.
After the match, the tension between the Wolves continued as they
argued following their third straight loss. ***1/2
- Kyle Durden was backstage with "Skullkrusher" Rasche Brown. He
asked Brown if he had made a choice as to who he was going to sign
with. Brown, in his fake effected voice (or at least it comes off
that way), talked about choices, and said that the choice people make
to step in the ring with him was the wrong one, because PAIN IS
COMINGGGGG! He did not answer the question. Luckily, this comes into
play a little later.
MATCH TWO: Bobby Dempsey v. Steve Corino
- This comes after their confrontation a few weeks back.
- Big strike exchanges early on, but Corino pulls the ref in his way,
distracting Dempsey enough to let him nail the big man with a boot.
He follows that up with an STO for a 2 count, After more strikes by
Corino, Dempsey HULKS UP and puts Corino to the mat with a head and
arm suplex, then follows it with an avalanche against the ropes. As
Dempsey was getting fired up to continue, Corino rolls him up and may
have even grabbed the tights to steal the win. The match was a little
longer than it comes off in this description and was very good for
what it was. **1/2
- After the match, Dempsey is still on a rampage and is attacking
Corino when Kevin Steen comes out for the save and they start to beat
the big man down. This brings "Sugarfoot" Alex Payne out to try and
help, but he gets dropped very quickly. Steen & Corino continue the
assault, busting open Payne. Steen added 2 Package Piledrivers on
Payne, then took his blood and rubbed it on his own face.
- Mike Hogewood and Dave Prazak make their on-screen appearance, and
Hogewood is very upset at Steen, saying there is no place for that in
Ring of Honor. Prazak doesn't agree or disagree, but says they have
to keep the show moving.
- Sara Del Rey does a promo package sans make-up, saying that she is
much different behind the scenes. When she's behind the curtain she's
nice, but once she is in that ring she isn't. She says she's not in
wrestling to be pretty or to be a model, she's here to be an athlete,
and she's different from the other girls in wrestling because she
wants to be tough and wants the sport to be respected.
MATCH THREE: The Set (Jay Sin? & Lance Lewd) v. "Skullkrusher" Rasche Brown
- Prince Nana and Shane Hagadorn come out with contracts in their
hand, as they are the leaders to sign the giant. SQUASH! Brown skins
the cat and clotheslines the duo, then proceeds to manhandle the both
of them. He Burning Hammer's Lewd onto Sin for the victory. No
stars.
- After the match, Nana and Hagadorn try to sign him in the isle, but
Brown just walks right past them.
MATCH FOUR: Portia Perez v. Sara Del Rey
- Perez tries a couple of quick pins, but Del Rey powers out of them.
She then uses that power to put the hurt on Perez. The smaller Perez
finally gets an opening to make her move and hits a swinging DDT and a
dropkick for a 2 count. That was her only chance, as Del Rey followed
up with the piledriver for the victory. **
- The show the bracket for the upcoming TV Title tournament. Steen v.
Rhett Titus; Colt Cabana v. Eddie Edwards; Delirious v. Davey
Richards; Kenny King v. El Generico.
MAIN EVENT: Austin Aries & Kenny King v. Tyler Black & Roderick Strong
- Black and Strong take turns beating up King in kind of a "can you
top this?" fashion. After a while, Aries pulls King to the outside
and begins to coach him. Aries finally takes his turn in the ring,
but gets worked by Strong, forcing him to make a quick detour and tag
King back in.
- King & Aries are finally able to get an advantage and the put the
heat on Strong. They utilize quick tags to wear Roderick down. As
Strong was finally going to get a tag, Aries went around toward the
opposite corner and baited Black into an argument so he would miss the
tag. That didn't last very long as Strong was able to get the hot
tag, and Black cleared house. Once Strong was able to recover in the
corner, he made a blind tag, and Black hit a big plancha to the
outside on Aries. As Strong was getting in some offense on King,
Black came back in the ring and threw a superkick, but King moved and
Strong got dropped. Aries then grabbed the legs of Black from the
outside and King covered Strong for the victory. ***
- After the match, Black and Strong argued, which led to some shoving.
Before it could escalate, the refs came in and broke it up.
- This was an excellent show. The pacing was very good, and all of
the matches were good. It seems that the storylines were starting to
have some direction. I just hope they can keep this up.
