ROH on HDNet TV Report
March 8, 2010
by Paul Collins

- They showed a clip they have played in the past from the 2/13 show
where Tyler Black beat Austin Aries for the ROH World Title, freezing
the screen when he hit the Phoenix Splash.

- However, this time, they showed a post-show celebration from
backstage where Eddie Kingston and The Briscoes amongst others are
congratulating the new champ.  As Tyler is thanking everyone, Jim
Cornette comes up very hot under the collar asking Tyler why he had to
kick him.  Black said just like with Roderick, he didn't know what
Cornette was doing up there, so he had to just get the job done.
Cornette responds by saying he wanted to make Tyler the franchise of
the company, but now he's going to stop concentrating on individuals
and just worry about what is best for ROH.

- Cut to Kenny King, who brings the cameraman with him into Aries'
locker room after his title loss.  Aries gains his composure and says
he wants a title shot.  He said he gave Tyler 167 shots at the belt,
so he wants just one, and that it had better happen soon.

- Cut to Roderick Strong yelling at ROH Owner Cary Silkin saying he
was promised a title shot and he wants it now.  Silkin tells him to go
see Cornette about it.  Strong is upset, telling Silkin he's the owner
so he should do something about it, but Silkin simply keeps deferring.
Cornette then appears on camera and announces their next internet
pay-per-view called "The Big Bang" from Charlotte, NC on Saturday
April 3, and Tyler will be defending his title that night.  He will
reveal against who later in the show.

- They show the brackets for the World Television Championship.

MATCH ONE: ROH World TV Title Tournament - Opening Round - Kevin Steen
w/Steve Corino v. Rhett Titus

- Steen grabs a sign from the crowd that says "Kiss me, Rhett, it's my
birthday."  As he's holding the sign, Steen is puckering up, asking
for a kiss from his opponent.  When he doesn't get a kiss, he rips up
the sign.  Since these are two heels, Titus sort of filled the face
role with his goofy sexed up act.

- Steen was able to drop all his weight from the top onto Rhett's
shoulder, and that is the body part he chose to work over during the
match.  For the most part, the advantage belonged to Steen, but Rhett
was able to get in a few bursts of offense during two different points
of the match.  First he got a poke to the eyes, but Steen bounced back
quickly, then Rhett got a big dropkick and some other offense in.

- He went for the Muff Driver, but Steen reversed it into a powerbomb
for a 2 count.  Titus got to the top rope, but Steen crotched him, and
Titus was caught in the Tree of Woe.  Steen then somersaults into him,
then locks in the Crossface for the submission win.  Steen moves on to
meet the winner of Colt Cabana v. Eddie Edwards which happens next
week.  *1/2

- Mike Hogewood & Dave Prazak make their first appearance in front of
the green screen, only now along with headsets, they're sitting at a
desk with equipment.  They mention Cornette and the upcoming internet
PPV.

- Cornette is sitting with Aries to his left, with Black and Strong to
his right.  He said after what happened in Manhattan, he's going to do
what is best for the company, and at this upcoming show, he needs to
book the match that is best for ticket sales.  He then says what is
best for sales is Tyler defending his belt against both Strong and
Aries.  Strong is very angry, repeating over and over that he wants
HIS title shot.  Cornette says he's getting it, but Strong says Aries
is getting one, too.  He came off as uncomfortable here, not knowing
what else to say.  He storms off screen, and Aries offers Black a
deal: you and me take out Strong early so we can go one-on-one again
to see who is the best, because he's not convinced that Black is
better than him.  Black says that's interesting, but "f*** off."
Strong comes back on screen and grabs Cornette, so Black tries to step
in and eats a fist for his troubles.  Some other people jump in and
break it up.  Black also came off as mechanic in this one.

MATCH TWO: The Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero & Claudio Castignoli)
w/Shane Hagadorn & Sara Del Rey v. The Bravado Brothers

- The Kings now have matching jackets and tights.  Hogewood & Prazak
announce that at the upcoming internet PPV, The Kings are getting a
shot at The Briscoe Brothers for the tag straps.

- SQUASH...even if The Bravados got in a couple of spots.  Quick tags
and offense for the Kings.  They hit an Elbow Hart Attack, Giant Swing
into a head kick, then a double military press into a Michinoku Driver
for the win.  Zero stars.

- Hero gets on the mic and pumps up their upcoming match against the
Briscoes.  Claudio cuts a promo in Swiss.  They then both get on the
mic and say, "Kings reign supreme!"

- Hogewood & Prazak make another on-screen apperance talking about the
Necro Butcher.  They mention that Necro has been suspended from
television for hitting timekeeper Guiseppe DiLorento during the brawl
with Erick Stevens.

- Kyle Durden is with Prince Nana backstage, where the Prince mentions
that is took a long time, but with his riches he was finally able to
get the Kings of Wrestling back together.  Durden then asks him about
Necro Butcher, mentioning that he has a family to feed.  Nana answers
by asking about the families of the people Necro has taken out over
the years, then follows it up by saying Necro needs to stay out of his
way.  Durden's last question is wondering what is Nana's relationship
with "Skullkrusher" Rasche Brown.  Nana says that when he sees Brown,
he sees dollar signs, and tells Brown to join the family.

MATCH THREE: "Skullkrusher" Rasche Brown v. Caleb Connelly

- SQUASH!  Huge spear by Brown, followed by the Torture Rack into the
Burning Hammer for the win.  Zero stars.

- Durden is backstage with Colt Cabana, where he asks him about Colt's
first round match in the TV Title Tournament with Eddie Edwards next
week.  Colt says he loves the idea of a TV Title tournament since he
is made for TV, just like Billy Mays minus the cocaine.  Dudren asks
him about El Generico, and Colt says Generico isn't doing the best,
but is getting better and is glad he's in the tournament since it
could focus him.  Steve Corino interrupts, letting Colt know that
Steen has advanced, so he should be worried about that and forget
about Generico.

- Hogewood & Prazak talk about the recent struggles of the American
Wolves, along with the possibility that they could be on their way
toward a split.  They show clips of their last three losses, and the
dissention growing between them.

MAIN EVENT: ROH World TV Title Tournament - Opening Round - Kenny King
v. El Generico

- They exchange holds early, with El Generico getting the better of
it.  King is able to rebound, dragging Generico's arm over the top
rope as he jumped to the outside, and from there Generico's arm was
his body part of choice to work over.  King got in some offense,
getting some close two counts.

- Generico tries a comeback, getting in some chops with his good right
arm, but King dropkicks the bad left one.  Quickly thereafter,
Generico is able to a burst of adrenaline to get in some offense,
which included a big Arabian press to the floor.  He rolls King back
in the ring, then goes to the top and hits a flying body press, then a
Michinoku Driver for a two count.  Generico hulked up for the running
Yakuza kick, but King counters with running knees, driving Generico
into the corner and gets a close fall.

- King hits two kicks and a lariat for a close fall.  Generico turns
the tide by hitting a half-nelson suplex and a Yakuza kick for a 2
count.  After some movement on the top rope, Generico traps King in
the Tree of Woe, then follows it up with a Van Terminator (minus the
chair), but King is right near the bottom rope and grabs it to break
the pin.  Generico goes up top again, but King pushes the ref into the
rope and crotches Generico.  King finishes the match with the Royal
Flush (modified Rock Bottom) from the top for the victory.  King moves
on to face the winner of Delirious v. Davey Richards which happens
next week.  **1/2

- Even though the matches had lower star rankings, that was mainly
because of botched spots or brief mistiming.  They were entertaining
matches.  As far as the squashes, The Kings one was to serve a
purpose.  With Brown, I wish they would get to their point.  They've
done enough squashes with him.  The pacing of the show was very good,
as they kept things moving.  Again, I'm very critical of the mic work
of Tyler Black and Roderick Strong, because I haven't seen much
improvement yet, so I wish they would keep the mic away from them.
