Kurt Angle vs. Frankie Kazarian opens the show
Excellent opener. Angle won clean with the ankle lock after a ton of near falls back and forth. Angle at one point did two German suplexes, and later did a series of four. The only negative is that when Kazarian would get near falls, nobody believed Kazarian could beat Angle although Angle kicking out of the Omori piledriver did get a pop. Angle then made a motion he wants the No. 9 contender next in his quest to beat No. 10 to No. 1 to build the title shot. The match was probably almost exactly what you'd expect. The only negative is that even though Kazarian was in a great match and Angle sold for him as much as he should, it just felt like a Kurt Angle match and that Kazarian was just the guy in the ring with him as opposed to a guy getting over coming close in a great match with a top guy.
Taz thanked A.J. Styles, Abyss, Don West, Jerry Lynn, Bob Ryder, Mike Tenay, James Storm, Jeff Jarrett and all the people who had been with TNA from its inception.
Douglas Williams vs. Brian Kendrick for the X title
Another very good match. A lot of good wrestling here. Williams won the match coming off the top rope with a tornado DDT. They were trying to tell the story that Williams was a hypocrite because he used a flying move to win the match since his gimmick is the anti-flying moves guy.
Eric Bischoff said Sting is selfish and puts himself in front of everyone and puts himself in front of the fans.
Madison Rayne vs. Roxxi for the Knockouts title
Before the match, Rayne said she's putting up her title but Roxxi came into the promotion and is putting nothing up. She asked Roxxi to put up her career and Roxxi agreed. Rayne hit her with a mic shot and Roxxi bled all over the place. I think hardway. Match was short, but better than most women's matches in TNA of late. Rayne survived the Voodoo drop twice and won the match with something approximating the Gail Kim finisher. So Roxxi is gone.
I had heard earlier that there was a ton of backstage heat over a last minute angle change that involved Roxxi, so apparently she showed up and found out she was done with the company. Roxxi was in tears when it was over, but they cut away so fast to show a video for the next match that it didn't really mean anything on the show.
Brother Ray vs. Jesse Neal
The story here was Tommy Dreamer came out. He got a big reaction, although not as big as I'd have expected. Bubba apologized to Neal, Shannon Moore and Devon and the fans for his actions. The crowd knew this story because when Neal and Bubba hugged, the people didn't pop much at all. As all three went to leave together, Bubba attacked Neal. Devon sold it like he was double-crossed. The match itself was mostly Bubba throwing hard chops, but the match didn't gel. Finish saw Dreamer come out and go into the crowd, which started chanting "ECW." Bubba miss a senton and Neal scored the pin with a spear.
Hernandez promo said he's been home for months with a herniated disc. Actually he's been on national TV every week since he's left.
Matt Morgan vs. Hernandez
Morgan came out in street clothes, jeans and a T-shirt and had a doctor's note saying he had a neck injury. As he was leaving, Hernandez came out and they did the match anyway. The match really wasn't good either, ending when Hernandez threw down ref Brian Hebner for the DQ. After the match, Hernandez tried to kick Morgan's head into the post as retribution, but Morgan moved and he kicked Hebner. They sold it like Hebner got a rib injury and Earl came out to sell it.
Hulk Hogan explained the wrestlers' code. Nobody really tries to wrench and arm or anything. But Sting broke the code with what happened to Jeff Jarrett.
Abyss vs. Desmond Wolfe in a Monster's Ball match
What an awful match. They did all the barbed wire stuff and weapons stuff. There sounded like about ten people reacting screaming "This is awesome" while most of the guy it was a sluggish dead crowd. Chelsea came out at first with Wolfe. Abyss gave Chelsea a bear wrapped in barbed wire as a gift. Abyss took a bump into a barbed wire board and bled from both arms. Then he took a face first bump into broken glass and bled from the head. Wolfe then asked Chelsea to give him her purse. She did, he opened it, but nothing was in there. He wanted to know where the Brass Knux were. She pulled them out and threw them to Abyss. Abyss nailed Wolfe and used the black hole slam for the pin.
A.J. Styles vs. Jay Lethal
Flair had told Styles he had to win this match. Lethal won a good match. Near the end, Lethal used the figure four but Styles made the ropes. Lethal missed an elbow off the top rope. Styles used the Pele kick and went to the top rope, but wasn't able to climb to the top because his knee was hurt from the figure four. Styles came off the ropes but was caught with a Northern lights suplex for the three count. People didn't expect Lethal to win, and the announcers played the win up big but the crowd seemed tired by this point. In hindsight, opening the show with Angle was a mistake beacuse nobody has been able to follow and now the crowd is burned out, even for the good matches. Kazarian came out as Flair was yelling at Styles.
Jeff Hardy & Mr. Anderson vs. Beer Money
They just announced Hardy & Anderson are going to be a regular team called The Extreme Enigmatic Assholes. They had a good match and crowd was into Hardy & Anderson. The finish saw Beer Money go for the DWIl but hardy knocked Storm out of the way and Anderson pinned Roode with the mic check. Anderson's left eye was busted open pretty bad. After the match, Anderson announced Jeff Nero Hardy as the winner and Hardy announced Mr. Anderson as the winner.
RVD vs. Sting for the TNA title
They did what they could, but not much of a main event. They brawled outside the ring for several minutes early. Once it got in the ring the big move was Sting moving from a crossbody off the top and RVD nailed Earl Hebner. With the ref down, Sting used a series of bat shots. Jeff Jarrett came out, arm not in a sling and got the bat and nailed Sting in the gut and the jaw with a bat shot. RVD used rolling thunder for a near fall. Sting came back, missed a Stinger splash and RVD used the frog splash.
All that hype and the big surprise is Tommy Dreamer. Dixie, the girl who cried Desmond one too many times.
