Thursday's News, Notes and Links

-- This is a quick afternoon update as Dave Meltzer will be back tonight with a full update after he gets his Internet restored. We've got two shows up already today, one from last night covering news and taking your questions and another covering the death of Brad Armstrong and the WWE third quarter earnings report and conference call.

I've got three more shows coming up today as well, including one with Karl Stern talking the life of Armstrong (the two worked together a lot and he has many stories to tell), another with Todd Martin talking all the news and the Bryan and Vinny Show late tonight with an Impact review and a verbal debate.

-- If you want to see how WWE arrived at the conclusion that there are ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHT MILLION WRESTLING FANS in the United States (the US, meaning we're not even talking North America here) and would like a breakdown of those fans, here you go.

-- It appears Smackdown will be pre-empted this week due to a Hurricane Sandy fundraising simulcast concert on Friday night.

-- Cung Le admitted on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani that his foot was not 100% and if his fight with Rich Franklin was scheduled for anywhere other than China, he'd probably have pulled out and given it time to heal. He said he still hurts his foot kicking people in the head in practice all the time.

-- Speaking of the MMA Hour, Dave's appearance on the show is available now.

-- A promo video on Saturday's World Series of Fighting show on NBC Sports is up available.

-- I read an article on ticket sales for the November GSP/Condit UFC 170-pound title fight. I love this quote from Tom Wright, Director of Canadian Operations on why they might be a little slow. "I think there are fans who are saying, 'You know what? I'm really excited about GSP's return and I love the fact that we've got (Martin) Kampmann versus (Johny) Hendricks in the co-main event, and we've got a bunch of Canadians on the card. But you know what? I bought my tickets 12 weeks out for Calgary and a whole bunch of things happened. I'm going to wait until it's a little closer.'"

-- Sheamus vs. Wade Barrett headlines next week's WWE Main Event.

-- WWE is doing a storyline where sometime today, Brad Maddox's lawyer will issue a statement regarding what went down when Brad met with THE WWE BOARD OF INQUIRY this morning. The website notes that he is suspended. Yes, he blatantly low-blowed a competitor in the main event of a WWE PPV and the decision was made to merely suspend him and then perform an inquiry.

-- ROH has their final TV taping of the year on November 3rd in Belle Vernon, PA at the Rostraver Ice Gardens. Full line-up and more available at

-- Don't forget Dragon Gate USA has iPPVs all weekend at They're really relying on iPPV buys this time around as attendance is expected to be poor given the aftermath of Sandy. There are some really good matches on all three nights, and you can listen to Samurai Del Sol preview a few of them in a show we did Tuesday. All the info is up at as well.

-- Ring of Honor will tape their final ROH on Sinclair episodes this year Saturday 11/3 in Belle Vernon, PA at the Rostraver Ice Gardens.
