TUF 5, Episode 5 recap

Once again, another recap of this fine, fine show. SO, on the Wrestling Observer website, Mr. Dave Meltzer asked for those who aren’t watching this season to give their reasons why. From what I read, most people really didn’t like last season as well as the oversaturation of the UFC product on the T.V. Well, if you haven’t been watching, I highly advise that you do.

BJ wasn’t enthusiastic about his team, comparing them to the Bad News Bears. Tony schooled Noah in practice because he never took anything seriously. It was great is all I can say. BJ thought Gabe was going to get chosen next and of course, he worried about his weight. Add to this, Gabe ate some cake at the house after his conversation with BJ. What an idiot.

Fight Announcement time: Corey vs. Gabe. Well, we all knew that was gonna happen after watching last weeks preview. Gabe claimed Corey was scared of him. Corey has quite the reach advantage but Gabe has the experience advantage. The problem for Gabe was his weight. First thing in his plans, you wonder? He wanted to eat spinach and take a nap. Nice. They showed Gabe’s room and he had all these motivational phrases written on the wall. This guy could give Anthony Robbins a run for his money.

Corey is 28 and 4-0. New to the sport, he wrestled for most of his life until college. He then decided to take up MMA one day (I think one of his friends got him in to it or something).

With 16 hours until weigh-in, Gabe was 169. The next morning, he was 163. He frustrated BJ with his wanting to do as little as possible to cut weight. With two hours to go, Gabe was 162. BJ went in to the sauna with him and he still wanted to do the least amount of work possible. He then acted like a total baby when they wouldn’t let him out of the sauna. OK, I know his behavior was childish but if I had to do the same thing, I don’t know if I would act any different. Well, I take that back, because after the commercial break, Gabe gave up with “only” three pounds to go, acting like a total drama queen, stripping naked, and laid by the pool.

Meanwhile, Corey had no problem cutting weight. While waiting to weigh-in, Jens came in and told everyone to return to the house. At the house (which has a sauna), Gabe fell out of the sauna (after getting back in) and acted like he was a dying soldier in Blackhawk Down telling BJ, “put me back in,” (while shedding tears no less). BJ refused to acquiesce, telling Gabe to put himself back in. After arriving at the house, Team Pulver found an ambulance waiting to take him away. Oh my. Of course, Team Pulver thought he acted like an idiot just to duck Corey. A couple of hours later, Gabe returned to the house. Naturally, the other guys were not very compassionate. Ironically, Corey was the most understanding.

Next day, Dana White arrived for an announcement. Oh boy. Dana stood there looking really pissed off. He said that guys not making weight pissed him off the most. He kicked Gabe out of the house and sent him home. Well, the show has lost its heel. I’m sure a new one will crop up. Also, Dana brought Emerson back. BJ was happy about that. Dana then told Team Pulver they got to select the next two fights as a way to punish Team Penn (for not helping Gabe to lose weight). 24 hours later, Team Pulver announced two fights: First was Brian vs. Joe Lauzon (who beat Jens at a past UFC PPV). Second fight will be Corey vs. Emerson. A good end to a very intriguing show. Next week looks to be good!!! {plug}
