- Our ongoing Mayweather vs. De La Hoya round by round report will begin whenever they get in the ring. At this rate, that may be next year. It is now pretty clear why Dana said he's learning from boxing what not to do.

Here we go. Mayweather is coming down to the ring wearing a sombrero, much like his uncle Roger used to do. 50 Cent did his theme live. Lots of boos for Floyd. Oscar got a huge pop coming out to traditional Mexican music here on CINCO DE MAYO.

Big pop when the first round ended. Ref warned Oscar about a possible low blow. Oscar got a big pop for a flurry early that looked largely ineffective.

Oscar more aggressive in the second round. More loud chants for him. They both landed a similar number of punches, though, I believe 15 for Oscar and 14 for Mayweather.

Very close third round. Punches landed were 17 for Mayweather and 10 for De La Hoya. Looks like probably 2 rounds to 1 at this point for Floyd.

Fun round. De La Hoya was very aggressive here again, including throwing a huge flurry of body shots on the ropes. He also got a shot in after the bell and Oscar just stared at him briefly.

Round five is over. The key to this fight so far is that Oscar is aggressive and throwing a lot of shots, but Floyd is landing significantly more.

Oscar made a mini comeback here in the middle of the HEAT. We're heading to round seven.

Oscar is really picking up his pace here. Announcers are noting that if Floyd's strategy is to hope that De La Hoya gets tired, he better get a different strategy.

Oscar is still going strong here in the eight. Doesn't look like he's getting too tired. Mayweather is still landing more punches statistically.

Sorry for the lack of updates, the website is being HAMMERED. They're showing scorecards and Mayweather is winning a lot of these rounds 10-9.

Mayweather, perhaps realizing this dude isn't going to get tired, is picking up the pace. We're heading into round ten. "WHIP HIS ASS!" Roger Mayweather advised.

Oscar has heart, but he might be getting a little tired and frustrated. Oscar owned him that last round. De La Hoya landed seven of sixty-something thrown punches. Oscar, as promised, is not showing fatigue. We've got two rounds left.

Oscar is definitely tired, but he landed one awesome show near the end of the 11th. Mayweather still landed nearly three times the number of punches. This is not a bad fight, but it's not a classic and there was some booing going into the final round. Oscar's wife looks remarkably calm, which should tell you something.

Oscar fought like a madman in that last round, and the last five seconds with both guys just throwing with everything they had was awesome and had the entire crowd on their feet screaming. Great finish. Not sure where it ranks with other major fights since I've never followed boxing all that closely, but I enjoyed the fight. Time to go to the judges.

Floyd Sr. just got into the ring and hugged his son.

And your new 154-pound champion, Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather. It was a split decision and you should have seen the look on Mayweather's face when one of the judges gave it to De La Hoya. Lots of booing for Oscar's loss, but no riot or anything like that. Hey, listen, "BULLSHIT!" chants! WHOO!

Floyd is ranting and raving in the ring. He looks like he just got done with a light training session. This fucker is a MACHINE. They asked him why it wasn't a "massacre" as he promised. He said hell, this was a great fight! They wanted to know if he was still going to retire after this fight and he said yes. He noted that he weighed in at 150 yesterday for this 154-pound fight and went into the ring tonight at 148. What an irony giving my gigantic rant about weight-cutting on yesterday's Bryan & Vinny Show. Floyd said he'd accomplished everything he'd wanted, he'd made his money, and at this age it was a valuable time to spend with his children. No one believes him.

De La Hoya said he felt he won the fight, that he landed the harder punches, and had he not engaged there would not have been much of a fight. He said you had to beat the champion decisively and he didn't feel Floyd did that. He said he was going to go back to the drawing board, watch the fight, and analyze the entire situation, and then he'd decide what to do. He noted how much he loved boxing, so without saying so, he pretty much said he's not retiring.

"I love boxing," he concluded.

They interviewed Floyd Sr., he said if you want to go by thrown punches, then yes, Oscar won. But if you want to go by punches landed, well, that would be his son. Larry Merchant pressed him for a winner. "If you go by point system," Sr. said, "you have to give it to Oscar."
