We're going to keep the main Benoit story up on the left-hand side of the page for the foreseeable future, and we'll continue to update it throughout the day. It is by far the biggest mainstream pro-wrestling story I've ever been a part of. All new Benoit information will go in there, whether it be breaking news, links to mainstream news stories, links to audio and video files, a schedule of appearances I'll be making, etc. The daily updates for the time being will largely be Benoit-free.WWE is doing a combined Raw/Smackdown supershow taping tonight in Dallas. The only match we know of thus far is Santino vs. Umaga for the IC Title. We're told the goal is to get "back to normal" with a fun show that may introduce some new characters. Vinny and I will be back late tonight discussing both this show and the EliteXC PPV replay on Showtime from Saturday night (Shamrock vs. Baroni).
I believe Smackdown did a 2.7 Friday night.
Big Show told the Miami Herald that he is considering becoming a pro boxer.
This website in association with the Buddy Wayne Wrestling School in Everett, WA will be running a one-day eight-hour training seminar on August 11th with OVW trainer Rip Rogers. Basically, a no-holds-barred look at what it takes to get into the business at a high level, what WWE expects in the ring, and more. Rip will answer any questions you may have and doesn't hold back (as was obvious from his appearance awhile back on Figure Four Daily). This is open to anyone whether you are a current wrestler or just want to know more about how things operate. It's limited to the first 20 people, however, so sign up quickly if you're interested. More info is up at buddywayne.net.
We are also going to be doing a UFC 73 prediction contest for members. Information is up in the MMA section on the BOARD~!, and basically whoever comes closest in their predictions will win free merchandise from gotjiujitsu.com. The show takes place Saturday and is headlined by Rashad Evans vs. Tito Ortiz.
In a follow-up to the Bryan & Vinny Show, Domino did in fact break his nose and perhaps his orbital socket in the match with Cryme Tyme.
I got zero feedback about the ROH PPV debut last night, so if you saw it, please drop me a line. I have a feeling that because it only debuted on Dish Network, most people probably won't be able to see it until later this month. Plus, the timing sucked with the Benoit story, as I think some people probably just didn't feel like watching too much wrestling this week. If you had the opportunity to see it but chose not to, please drop me a line and let me know why.
Also, if you attend the TNA TV tapings tonight, I'd appreciate any notes. I believe Matt Sydal will be getting a tryout.
Last night's WWE show in Wichita Falls was cancelled due to flooding.
Idol pinned Carlito in the main event of the OVW Six Flag show this past weekend.
This week's new 25,000-word Figure Four Weekly newsletter is packed with pro-wrestling and MMA news and analysis from around the world. This week, obviously, our main cover story deals with all the fallout from the Chris Benoit double murder-homicide. Most of you probably know the entire story by now, but this is a recap of all the information that was known as of Tuesday night, plus my personal thoughts on Benoit from having known him since 1999. Because of the length, we had to cut out all of the news sections, though we do have big stories on the Vengeance PPV Sunday night and the UFC Ultimate Fighter Finale from Vegas (Pulver vs. Penn, Diaz vs. Gamburyan), which we attended live. Admin Tony also attended the Strikeforce show in San Jose with Frank Shamrock vs. Phil Baroni, so we've got a lot of notes on that as well. We've also got backstage notes from all the major events, in-depth notes from the BJ Penn press conference, Vinny reviews a bunch of wacky stuff from Youtube, full reviews of every major TV show including Raw, Smackdown, and TNA, and TONS more! Of course, as a member you also get full access to ALL new and archived radio shows dating back to 2005, plus all the new and archived (280-plus issues) Figure Four Weekly newsletters dating back to 2001. To sign up, please click here, or PayPal users can use the Quick Buy link at the top of this page to be online within 60 seconds. Rates start at just $7.99 per month (27 cents a DAY), so it's a steal. Thanks for your support!
