Here are the results from Night 1 of the Ted Petty Invitational, courtesy of Angrymarks.com!
It's now 7:42pm, and the 2007 Ted Petty Invitational is underway! All of the talent is introduced one by one.
BJ Whitmer, sporting a dye job similar to Steve Corino, brawls with two men. Jimmy Jacobs receives a DDT, courtesy of Chuck Taylor. Jacobs says that Chucky T is a parody of him from 2005. Even though he's wrestling for "that other show" tomorrow, he requested his match there go first. He says he's advancing tonight AND TOMORROW all the way to the end!
Tonight's first match is Josh Abercrombie vs. Ricochet! Abercrombie dares to come out to the song "The Right Stuff" by New Kids on the Block - and the crowd goes NUTS for it! Ricochet controlled early, then Abercrombie on offense. After that, Ricochet comes back with a flip off his chest and an awesome leg guillotine. Ricochet does a flip over the ropes right into the barricade and wiped Abercrombie out. He goes up for a double moonsault, but josh cuts him off and threw him down, then tapped Ricochet out. WINNER: Josh Abercrombie (advances to next round). After the match, Ricochet is helped to the back.
Next is Joey Eastman, saying he's making his last IWA appearance. He gets cheap heat by insulting the crowd. He presents CJ Otis, who is a scrawny blonde guy from Michigan. His opponent for this round is Joker, a light tan "brotha" from Chocolate City (Washington DC). I told Eastman he got his wardrobe from 80s rocker Pat Benatar. Eastman said he got it from his dad and "he's dead, thanks for asking". Of course, everyone laughed and didn't believe him. Joker powerbombs Joey hard and gets the pin. WINNER: Joker (advances to next round).
Human Tornado vs. Eddie Kingston is next. Tornado came out to "The Good Life" by Kanye West. Tornado and Kingston are popping the crowd with chops. Tornado just did some sweet aerial offense and finished with a superkick. Action spilled out to the floor when Kingston slid out and Tornado leaped off the ropes. His knees hit the cement floor hard (no pads). The barricade near where I'm sitting moved back 5 ft when they brawled into it. Kingston laying an asskicking on him now. Tornado just foot stomped his head through the ropes, did a huge dropkick and nailed Kingston in the corner. Kingston gave him a clothesline for 2.9. Tornado gives Kingston a wicked DDT for 3!! WINNER: Human Tornado (advances to next round).
Afterwards, Chris Hero comes out behind the crowd and says, "Give it up one more time for that loser Eddie!" Hero says that all Eddie Kingston does is whine and bitch. A fight nearly breaks out when Kingston throws a chair at him. Hero leaves. Kingston says that if Hero loses to Too Cold Scorpio tonight, he wants Hero's ass tomorrow night. The officials remind him not to interfere tonight, otherwise he'll be banned for a year.
Next match is BJ Whitmer vs. Davey Richards. Whitmer and Richards are having a slugfest. Someone in the crowd keeps yelling out "Device!" like Rocky Balboa's manager. We can hear the play-by-play man on a mic in the back, too. Ten minutes have elapsed in this match, both men are down on the floor. Whitmer hits a frogsplash for a 2 count. Richards threw him off the top with the same result, but he's all fired up. Running knee and powerbomb by Whitmer gets 2.9. Richards hits an enzuguri. Dragon suplex by Richards for 2.5, then he taps Whitmer out. I believe he got him with an armbreaker, but it was hard to see because an IWA cameraman was right in front of me. WINNER: Davey Richards (advances to next round).
Dysfunction vs. Devon Moore is coming up next! Moore started to come out to "Notorious" by B.I.G., but the DJ fucked up. Dysfunction has Thundercats logos on his trunks. It's not a bad match for two guys I really don't know anything about! Devon Moore gets the three count. WINNER: Devon Moore (advances to next round).
We'll be at intermission for the next 10-15 minutes or so!
Intermission is over and we're back to the action! Tyson Dux is in the ring running his mouth and won't leave. Ian Rotten is throwing him out. Security is now leaving with the Midwest X Division whatever the fuck champ he is.
Billy Roc comes out to "Take Me Home Tonight." Quackenbush is out wearing his IWA Light Heavyweight Belt. Quack is over big time with the crowd. He's having a very technical match with Roc. It's like Bryan Danielson just showed up in IWA! Airplane spin backbreaker after an awesome series of armdrags, rolls, and reversals. 5 min have elapsed. Texas clover or sharpshooter, I can never tell which. Roc gets to the ropes. Billy is on offense after the ref gets to 5 on a double 10 count. Backslide pin for 2. Rock with an inverted backflip DDT for 2.9. The crowd is hot for both guys now. We're now 10 min into this match! Roc gets to the top rope, but Quack gets knees up. Quack gets Roc into an inverted back submission and he taps out. WINNER (and still champ!): Mike Quackenbush (advances to next round). Afterwards, Quack calls for and gets a round of applause for his opponent.
Tank vs. Brent Albright is up next! Tank jumps Albright during his entrance before he hits the ring. The announcer quickly introduces the match and an impromptu battle starts. Tank looks like a low rent Tank Abbott from MMA and UFC. Tank has all the offense - lots of scoop slams and hard hits. It's weird to see Albright coming from behind instead of dominating the match. Albright suplexes the fat fuck - impressive! Albright gets a cross armbreaker and Tank taps. WINNER: Brent Albright (advances to next round).
Next match is Brandon Thomaselli vs. Joey Ryan! Ryan is wearing his NWA tag belt and came out to Magnum PI theme music. The two of them have a war to see who can make the crowd clap louder before they start wrestling. Incidentally, the ring seems to be getting louder as the night goes on. After a half dozen or so armdrags, Ryan takes a hit off the inhaler. Thomaselli gets a backslide for 2. Brandon grounds him with chinlocks. Thomaselli pulls down the straps a la Angle, but Ryan hits the German. Ryan spears Thomaselli to the floor. Double knee gutbuster by Thomaselli for 2.5, Ryan gets the pin at just over 10 min. WINNER: Joey Ryan (advances to next round).
"Shooter" Drake Younger vs. "Spyder" Nate Webb is next. Younger came out to Nas and Jay-Z's "Black Republicans". Webb looks even more country in person than on DVD. Shooter does a funny walk around the ring to start. Man, Younger has a ridiculous amount of scars on his body, especially his back! War of elbows to the head, Younger gets a pop for a high back bodydrop. Shooting star press by Shooter for 2. Delayed vertical suplex for 2. Match going past 5 minute mark. Younger ducks a splash by Webb into the ropes. Webb bounces off like death and Younger slams him hard for 2. Huge "Drake Drake Drake" chant from the crowd. Running slam for 2. Webb faceplants Younger off the top rope for 3! WINNER: "Spyder" Nate Webb (advances to next round).
Claudio Castagnoli vs. Nigel McGuiness is up next! Nigel and Claudio did about ten reverse rolls in a row. The crowd is doing the "hayyyyy" for Claudio posing and the "whoahhh heyyyy" for the punch counterpunch. Airplane spin by Claudio! He gets 2.5 but he prolly went around ten times on it. Nigel with the Kevin Thorn death kiss off the ropes for 2.5. 10 min elapsed so far. European uppercut and lariat by Nigel for the near fall. Super hard lariat gets 2.9. Swiss money bomb gets 3 for Claudio! WINNER: Claudio Castagnoli (advances to next round). Awesome match - it was everything I hoped for and more!
Chris Hero vs. Too Cold Scorpio up next! Hero had the announcer read every TPI he's ever been in. Hero does his knee drops spot to a pop. 5 min have elapsed. Hero and Scorpio do the bulls colliding spot. Hero to the outside, and Scorpio gives chase. Hero tries to go over barrier, but Scorpio pulls him back. Hero tries to go under the ring, and again Scorpio pulls him back. In the ring, Hero demonstrates his kip-ups, but Scorpio demonstrates his kicks and punches much more effectively. Hero finally gets him in a facelock. Scorpio gets out with a reverse head kick. Scorpio head scissors Hero to the floor. 15 min has now elapsed. Big boot by Hero for 2.5. Knee lifts backflip head kick top rope, aerial flip sault - Scorpio wins!! WINNER: Too Cold Scorpio (advances to next round).
After the match, Hero gets a looooserrrrrr chant from the crowd. He says just for that he won't come back tomorrow. Kingston runs through the entrance and jumps Hero as he tried to leave. They both talk shit and chase each other. Hero finally leaves. Eddie asks Ian Rotten to make the match. Ian says if he can wait until tomorrow, they'll go one on one. Ian adds that it'll be a last man standing match.
Main event is up next - Jimmy Jacobs vs. Chuck Taylor. Jacobs comes to the ring in his blood stained jacket and a cane. He looked very Father James Mitchell-esque, except in white. When Chuck comes out, Jacobs suicide dives him to hot start the match. They've done crowd brawling ever since. Currently, they're under a hoop on the far side and we can't see shit! Jacobs does a dive off the barricade and it slides out under him. The move looked very botched. Finally, they get in the ring. Jacobs has been wailing on him and even declared himself the new champ. Chuck gets a rare hope spot then Jacobs takes over again. Chuck finallly dumps him out, then does a running flip dive over the top outside. Chuck in control when they come back in the ring. Chuck tries to choke him out, but Jacobs survived and rolls on him for 2. Chops and a enzuguri in the ropes. Cover for 2 and another submisson hold! Taylor misses an SSP - 10 min has now elapsed. Jacobs gets a boot to the jaw, but hits a spear for 2.9. Chuck thrown out , Jacobs tries a suicide dive. Chuck grabs a leg and he hits the barricade hard. Jacobs gets back in right before the 10 count. His face is a bloody freaking mess. Chuck keeps punching Jacobs right on the gash, and a boot wash to the wound too. Superkick - Jacobs kicks out at 1. 15 min has elapsed. Jacobs nearly schoolboys him for 3. Chuck stands on the knee braced leg in the ropes twice. Chuck twists the leg, but Jacobs gets a rope break. Chuck removes the knee brace. Figure 4 leglock - slaps to each other's face while in it. Jacobs with a top rope senton for 2.9 - both men are down. Jacobs with a running bulldog, blocked into a roll-up near fall. Jacobs set on top rope, but Chuck counters to a reverse headbutt. Taylor picks up Jacobs, spikes him on his head and gets the pin!! WINNER: Chuck Taylor (advances to next round).
