WWE Titan Tower Massacre results from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on January 9th, 2009 at the MTS Centre
I know, not funny. Sorry.
It was a pretty good show overall. All but the main events felt like house show matches, but it was a fun 3 hours. We were in the 1st row in the bleachers, and whenever people on the floor stood up we could barely see anything, so I missed a few finishes as well as a lot of the main event. To all the people on the floor, when a match is going on, SIT DOWN and don’t ruin the view for people behind you.
1) Matt Hardy beat Jack Swagger to keep the ECW Title with the Twist of Fate. Good opener, and crowd loved Matt Hardy. Hardy hit a Side Effect, and as expected, Swagger kicked out.
2) Beth Phoenix beat Melina to keep the womens title. No Santino, which was sad.
3) Miz and Morrison beat Cryme Time to keep the tag titles. Cryme Time was popular.
4) Finlay w/ Hornswoggle beat Mark Henry w/ Tony Atlas after a shillelagh shot. Mark Henry is a HUGE man. Lots of bearhugs. Hornswoggle was also very popular, and danced with kids in the ring after the match.
There was a brief intermission, and not much happened. A ref came out, and a minute later the show was back on.
5) William Regal beat Kofi Kingston. Pretty good match. Before the match, Kelly Kelly had a kid be the guest bell ringer.
6) Randy Orton & Cody Rhodes beat CM Punk & Rey Misterio Jr. Really good match. They beat down Punk, then beat down Rey. Great spot with the ref missing Rey’s hot tag to Punk. I couldn’t see the finish, but I think Orton pinned Rey, could be wrong. 2nd best match of the night. It went about 20 minutes.
7) John Cena beat Chris Jericho with an FU to keep the World title in 26:37. Really good match even though people were standing and I couldn’t see much, but I know it was good. Quite a few near falls at the end; a few FU teases, Code breaker, Lionsault, STFU, Walls of Jericho, etc. Jericho came out not reacting to the crowd, but near the end he was enjoying the cheers. Most of the crowd hated Cena, but the kids and some women loved him. Easy best match of the night. After the match Jericho cut a promo thanking Winnipeg for coming out, and he thinks this might be the only arena that doesn’t boo him out of the building. He also said he was his own worst critic, but Jericho knew he and Cena put on a great match.
