Remembering Playboy Buddy Rose!
by Fidel Sierra the Cuban Assassin aka Top Gun and Fantasy

I just returned from the Dominican Republic and was very upset and saddened to hear that Buddy Rose passed away. We would like to express our condolences to his Family, his wife Tammy, who has always been a very supportive wife and a positive influence in his life and all of his fans. He was from an era long gone by, but will never be forgotten.

I first met the Playboy when I came to wrestle for Don Owens in Oregon, where I became part of his army along with Rip the Crippler Oliver. We had a lot of good times driving down the road together and became good friends.

I remember one Thanksgiving, Buddy invited me and Rip Oliver along with his wife and in-laws to eat dinner at his house. He had a couple of  small dogs he considered part of his family and when it was time to sit down to dinner, they, in addition to all of us, got a seat at the table too, (along with their own plate of food). It made for funny dinner conversation but the truly amazing thing was that those two dogs were very well behaved and even had good table manners. That was Buddy for you, he did things his way but was very up front and open about it and he really, really loved those dogs.

He was a legend, with a style of his own and played a big role in the success of the Pacific Northwest Territory. He had a good mind for the business and he could get the crowd going with just a few words.  His matches at the Cow Palace against superstars like Rowdy Piper, Super Fly Jimmy Snuka were famous as were his matches against Rick Flair, and the late Andre the Giant. He also, amongst others, had a very hot and memorable feud against the late Curt Hennig and the late Jay Youngblood.

And for a man carrying a slim, trim 214 pounds, he sure could move. But he was more than just a great athlete, he made an impact, he made an impression, he made the fans want to come see him get his butt kicked. He had it all and I feel privileged to have been part of it.

Playboy Buddy Rose, you will be missed. May you rest in peace.
