The lower bowl of the Metro Centre was sold out, and all told the arena was at about 80% of the 10,000 capacity for a WWE house show.
Triple H had been heavily promoted in the days leading up to the show by local media, but it was announced that he was involved in a "scheduling conflict" and would be unable to appear. Refunds were offered but not many people appeared to accept. 1. Evan Bourne beat Chavo Guerrero with the Shooting Star Press. Coolest sequence of the night saw Chavo counter Bourne's top rope double knee into a half Boston crab. Hornswoggle distracted Chavo to set up the finish. 2. Primo Colon beat Alex Riley with a top rope crossbody block. Riley ran down the crowd before the match but didn't get much of a reaction. 3. Chris Masters submitted Santino with the Masterlock after a short comedy match. Santino kindly informed the crowd after the match that he was "OK." 4. Kofi Kingston defeated The Miz and Jack Swagger in a Triple Threat match after pinning Swagger with the Trouhle In Paradise kick. Miz cut a promo before the match claiming he saved Kofi a beating after stealing the US title belt and stole it again at the end of the match. 5. Alicia Fox beat Rosa Mendez with a scissor kick in a short match. Nobody really knew who to cheer for given that Rosa's been a heel on TV in recent weeks. Potential face turn incoming? 6. Legacy beat MVP and Mark Henry when DiBiase pinned MVP after the Dream Street. Solid tag match that the crowd was really into - MVP and Henry especially (2nd best pops behind Cena). 7. John Cena beat Randy Orton to retain the WWE championship after a F- Attitude Adjustment. Crowd reaction was the usual for Cena - massive pop on the music, 80/20 for Cena during the intros and the match itself. After the match, Legacy ran down to beat down Cena before Henry and MVP made the save, resulting in DiBiase being beat down. After the match, Cena assisted an officer from one of the Canadian naval ships in proposing - she said yes, of course. Best pops: Cena, MVP/Henry and Bourne. Biggest heat for Orton, Legacy and the Miz with honourable mention to the Triple H announcement. Here's hoping they come back soon, as their last trip to Halifax was in January of 2005 and we shouldn't have to wait that long. - Donald Theriault http://www.twitter.com/donaldmick |
