  • SHANE RESIGNATION

Guys,

I am quite surprised about Shane McMahon's resignation, and am feeling a little iffy about the federation's future.  The idea of Stephanie and HHH in charge, without any sort of Shane to balance the gag-inducing nasuea, makes me numb.  Let's face it, Vince has some decent years left but will probably want to retire someday, Linda is attempting to head into politics, and Shane is gone.  I don't see a pretty picture emerging in terms of the managerial side.

I think Shane has always been the one with the good cross-promotional ideas, and the guy who doesn't have his head too far up pro-wrestling's ass.  He was the one with the idea to bring in Mike Tyson, and later Floyd Mayweather, and he was the one who wanted his dad to purchase UFC before Zuffa ended up with it.  He was looking towards the future, while the rest of them were looking towards the past.

ROY SHIRE PIECE

Dave, as a subscriber of yours for now 21 years, and as  lawyer, I must remark on how incredibly detailed your writing is.  The article you just did in the Obsrever on Roy Shire was incredible.  When one contemplates that you churn out such detailed and extensive writing to meet each week's deadline, it is even more amazing.

My hat, if I wore one, would be tipped to you!

All the best,

Dave,

Thanks you for your great issue on Roy Shires.  As a kid, I’d see him peaking through the curtain at the San Jose Civic watching the matches and surveying his empire.  I never had contact with the guy.  My dad was friends with everybody and would talk to John Swenski, the local front man, at every card.  I could tell you based on what he said, that he did not want to feel the wrath of Shires.  One time as a kid, I sent Shires about a 10 page letter on yellow legal pad paper with suggestions of who to bring in and booking ideas.  One of my ideas was to force the Invaders to wear different outfits based on their untagged switches (if you remember they had two outfits--  one white with black, the other blue with gold).  I had never seen this stip anywhere before but just came up with it in my own young mind.  A month later, it was made a stip in one of their matches.  I am absolutely convinced to this day Roy had read my letter.  Shires’ booking stuck to a strict plan that worked.  It was such a vibrant time.  My grandmother lived near downtown San Jose and I would run down to the liquor store to see the wrestling poster that had been posted with the next card’s matches.  They always had 10 wrestlers (except the occasional time Andre came when they had 11).  Most of the time, there were two two-out-of-three fall tags and a singles opener.  I can still smell the building.  When I was lucky enough to go to the Cow Palaces bashes too, there was an electricity in the air that for my money cannot be duplicated.  I wish I could recapture that vibe.  I could go on and on but despite the locker room issues I was not privy to, I was lucky to be a part of it and would not trade it for the world.  Take care and thanks for the great work with the Observer.

THREE HOUR IMPACT

Bryan and Dave: I read the site today and decided to catch tonight's Impact simply because of Angle-Styles.

It was a hell of a match, but what a terrible finish. Not only was there not a winner, but Styles ended up looking like the luckiest geek ever. I do hope when Russo and Co. decide to pull the belt off of Styles because he can't draw TV and PPV ratings, they re-watch the match.

I tapped out watching an hour and a half of Impact. I seen back to back tables match & a stretcher match. Glad they gave away stipulation matches for free and made me never want to see them again. They had a million backstage brawls that I never want to watch one again. Ever angle had the quick cut away before I digested it. The worst part is that I have ADD & I never remember what the hell i watched on TNA.

I seen more angles, brawls, beat downs than i ever seen in an entire stint in Memphis or UWF. The only thing that I wanted to buy from the 90 minutes of TNA that I watched was an $.89 taco bell taco. Good luck if you can digest  3 hours of this crap. They got all of the talent in the world that had not been over exposed in comparison to WWE. But yet there booking is the drizzling shits that doesn't allow anything to get over.

ALBANO

As sick as it sounds, I'm looking forward to reading your, let's just say feature column on Captain Lou.  I was never a big fan of the WWF in the 80s but I always loved the guy, even when he was a heel he had that charming bumbling likeability that guys just don't have anymore.

Of all the guys that have died in the last few years (excluding Benoit and Eddy - those were each like simultaneous punches to the liver and groin) - I can't think of any that have been quite this sad.  It's like hearing that your favorite uncle died.  This one really hurts.

I hope you will be able to provide addresses for well wishes in addition to wrestlers rescue, which I assume will help with the burial expenses.

Thank you,
Mike DeGeorge
