Hey Guys,

I'd overall give the show a thumbs up because it created 2 new stars, all be it controversially for shogun but like Uncle Eric says, Controversy creates cash, and the rematch should greatly eclipse whatever buyrate this ppv did in what will hopefully be both guy's next fights. They can't give either man a match in between unless one gets hurt and the other doesn't want to get rusty but even then you're running the risk of taking shine off the stone.

Secodly, I think guys like Thiago Alves and Anthony Johnson fighting at welterweight is a joke. Johnson is a good exciting young fighter, but he looked twice Yoshida's size. It looked like a bully picking on a new kid in school. I've always hated Alves at 170 because the guy looks damn near heavyweight by the time the fight starts. I understand cutting and putting back on is part of the game, but i mean 10, 15, MAYBE 20 lbs is respectable but when a guy looks 40lbs up on a guy, it just becomes a joke and not fair. Alves and Johnson should be no lower than Middleweight and Johnson for sure could go 205 with no problem. Something should be done about that.

I was never much of a fan of Joe Stevenson for some reason. Nothing against the guy, but he didn't get me excited to see him fight even though I know he's very good and skilled, but with Greg Jackson he's a much more dynamic fighter. Great move on his part and I'm interested in seeing the guy fight from here on in.

Lastly, I agree with Joe Rogan 1000% you can tell how much of a fan he is because he said he is PISSED that the Rampage/Evans fight isn't happening any time soon and I agree. I feel like there is a jinx on TUF when there are two coaches who really hate each other and do a great job of selling a fight. To me the other season that had the most heat between coaches was Serra and Hughes, and Serra (my guy from LI WOO WOO WOO YOU KNOW IT!!!) got hurt and by the time the fight happened the twinkle was off the star. Now you have Rampage and Evans doing a masterfull job of selling a fight. If they're faking it, then send them to WWE to give lessons because they're selling the shit out of this fight on that show and there's no fight I want to see more right now aside from Fedor vs Brock and maybe GSP and Anderson Silva in all of MMA right now. Of course instead of an injury, a major motion picture had to ruin this fight. Now I'm kind of on both Rampage and Dana's side because I can see both men's point. Rampage had agreed to fight and then took an outside venture over his main bread and butter, however for his own health and future, if he can make it in acting, then good for him because it's more money and no concusions. Having said that, Dana is a business man, and has an entire season revolving around two things, both of which right now have lost steam in Kimbo's image and the coaches fighting. Now Kimbo has been salvaged for now and brilliantly I might add, but who knows how long that will last if he loses his next fight whether it be this season, or on the finale. The only other season that had great hype and the fight actually took place was season 3 with Tito and Ken, but that fight sucked so the jinx still exists in my opinion, plus while they don't like each other, Tito and Ken both have some worker in em from the pro wreslting side of things and I don't feel they disliked each other AS MUCH as Serra and Hughes and Evans and Rampage do. So hopefully that fight happens ASAP because it's going to be amazing heat. I also hope Rampage has a career in acting, I actually think he's going to become a star in hollywood, maybe not The Rock, or someone like that, but I think as a supporting actor in a buddy cop type of format he's hilarious. I don't see him doing lead roles but who knows, it's a shot you have to take, especially in a movie getting this much early press and with a role that is iconic in American TV history. Remakes typically suck, but all be it a cult classic I grew up loving, The A-Team in retrospect was a horrible show from a realistic standpoint, but oh so much fun at the time.

Anyhoo, I think that's about it. Keep up the great work.

Overall Opinion: Thumbs down

Best Fight: Begrudgingly, Velasquez / Rothwell

Worst Fight: Pretty much PICK a bout from the undercard

This was yet another lackluster PPV offering from what has been, cardwise, a pretty crappy year for UFC shows. Obviously, by now complaining about the Machida / Rua outcome is old hat, so I shan't reiterate the parroting of a million pissed off MMA Internet fans, but their vehemence is assuredly justified. I was watching the show at a sports bar and as soon as the verdict was announced, a guy beside me (clearly one of the casual fans of the sport) loudly proclaimed "Man, this UFC is some pro wrestling bullshit!" His utterance was most definitely anything but a compliment. I've never been one to mull the consideration that there are "fixed" shenanigans going on in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, but considering the outrageous betting lines and the notion that the LHW pool is pretty much depleted at this point, methinks that there could've been some behind-the-scenes tomfoolery to hype up a rivalry that, going into the eve, was about as heated as an iceberg. That being said, neither guys are really desired by UFC brass...Dana wants the belt on Jackson, and since he's out playing Mr. T, the proxy champ is SUPPOSED to be Randy Couture. I muse on that, how in the hell is this shit NOT considered worked? Surely, the outcomes are non-scripted, but with just a little bit of booking tweaking and some questionable calls here and there, isn't it pretty much a truth hood that the UFC can manipulate and steer bouts towards its wanted match-ups later on?

I guess Velasquez is guaranteed a title shot in a few months time after his thrashing of Rothwell. The HW division is basically the antithesis of the LHW division...I never thought I'd see the day in which the HW division was the UFC's most intriguing division and the once-marquee LHW was its most boring, but here we are.

I guess Okami has been factored out of the Anderson Silva sweepstakes, huh? I'd like to say that I want to see Sonnen take on Marqhardt in an eliminator bout, but to be honest...nobody really wants to see that, do they? Hell, if the behind-closed-doors Svengalis of Zuffa, Inc have their way, we'll probably be seeing Silva and Couture, a middleweight and a heavyweight, duking it out for the 205 pound title this time next year by forced mandate. Oh, the benefits of speaking a language other than Portegeuse in the Ultimate Fighting Championship...

Rothwell stopped early, Shogun completely jobbed to the point I
thought I was watching boxing (with the fix in). I am speechless,
dissappointed, and........speechless.

Thumbs down. The card was okay but the decision in the main killed everything.

Best fight: Struve vs. Gormley

Worst fight: I guess Johnson vs. Yoshida for the squash factor. Nothing was either really bad or really great.

Sub: Struve

KO: Johnson

The Spike fights were okay. Barry vs. Hardonk had good action while it lasted and it's always fun to see speed kill size. Struve vs. Gormley showed the most technique of any fight of the night. Bader and Schafer was two good ground guys boxing not very well, and I thought Schafer won.

On the PPV, Johnson was just so much bigger than Yoshida that it didn't look like they were anywhere near the same division. Johnson looks like at least a light heavyweight.

Stevenson made the Fisher fight a lot harder than it had to be by waiting till the 2nd to take it to the ground.

Sonnen shocked with excellent boxing and looking super sharp vs. Okami, who looked clueless and reduced to throwing a 1-2 over and over. Career best performance for Sonnen and career worst for Okami. More ground guys boxing but Sonnen actually boxed WELL.

Neer and Tibau was a decent scrap. If Tibau would fight every fight by just slamming the other guy, letting him up, slamming him, letting him up... he'd never lose.

Cain looked great against Rothwell even though the stoppage was probably at the wrong time, but nothing was gonna change. Cain stepped it up and was hitting with power on the ground, which is something he needed to fix and apparently has.

The main, shit. Shogun proved it was the injuries that were screwing him up, got in great shape, managed the very difficult feat of curbing his natural aggressiveness and was patient and tactical and made Machida fight his fight, and reminded us all why Muay Thai > Karate. I thought he was shot and would wade in banging and Machida would pick him apart and kill him. But IMO Shogun won 4 of the 5 rounds and should get an immediate rematch.

I didn't even watch the show and I know the main event was a work.  I knew unless there was a KO or submission this would go to Machida.  After two years, UFC finally got behind Lyoto after his last fight.  He had a lot of "best pound for pound" buzz, a new "Karate Kid" gimmick, and planned match-ups with Quinton, Rashad, and maybe Couture.  They couldn't throw that all away for some non-English speaking Pride guy.

Thumbs Up
Best Match: Ryan Bader v. Red Schafer
Worst match: Anthony Johnson v. Yushiyiko Yoshida

Hi Dave
I almost went with Thumbs in the middle but when looking back on the show I don't feel there was a really bad match. Machida v. Shogun is a mixed bag for me basically because of the decision, as I am a really big Machida fan, even after this fight because he showed that he was tough and he was moving forward. But Shogun easily did more damage and landed more. I guess the issue is that some of the rounds were so close and as Goldberg said, it is a champion's advantage. I would really look forward to a rematch, although I think as far as buyrates go they might want to pair it with something strong as some people might be turned off by this fight. Honestly, though I feel Rua won the fight but as Dana White has said before, don't leave the fight in the hands of the judges.
I give Yoshida v. Johnson worst fight as it had no business taking place. Johnson should not be welterweight, and coming in that big at weigh-ins and in the fight against a man who was so much smaller is a recipe for someone getting hurt and is reflective of the problems with weight cutting and everything that is wrong with MMA. If  Yoshida got seriously hurt here it would be a PR disaster and deservedly so.
Both Ryan Bader and Cain Valasquez were great. I think Cain really became quite marketable tonight and should be a big deal against the Lesnar-Carwin winner. I thought the stoppage was good as even though Rothwell was starting to stand up he was in danger of getting hurt, and I actually thought it should have been stopped earlier.
Ryan Bader was so great and would be a huge pro wrestling star in another era. I felt the fight should have been stopped in the first round a couple of times and then again in the second. And ten as I thought that, I realized how tough Schafer is. Really impressive for both guys. Bader has more growing to do as far as putting all the skills together but I think he is the future of the Light Heavyweight Division.

Wow, I don't see how he won that fight.  I know you have to beat the champion, but Shogun rendered him nearly useless with those lethal kicks.
Amazing how a champ's market value crapped out and the loser's exploded.
Anyway, purist bullshit aside, it was not a very entertaining fight, as we had five nearly identical rounds with the champ barely taking a risk or gaining a real advantage.
Well, can't complain, watched it for free.
