Hey Dave, I had to comment on the Mickie James "Piggy" angle. I thought it was absolutely pathetic to compare a young woman who is anything but over-weight to a pig. I remember a little while back, I believe it was Todd Martin in his Raw report who noted in a match where the women were wearing bikinis how Mickie didn't look as rail thin as the other women and actually looked better for it. I couldn't have agreed more. Not to be creepy, but I think Mickie has a great body. She's my favorite of all the women in WWE. But beyond the way she looks, I love her energy and I think she is if not one of the best, the best female worker they have. After you get used to seeing the other "divas" they become stale and boring because they have no personality and suck in the ring. But I still care about Mickie, even though she's been around for a while. Vince McMahon ultimately gets the blame for this since it's his company. His vision of what a woman should look like is not only unrealistic but unhealthy. What message is being sent through this angle to the other women in the company? Take whatever unhealthy actions you must, but don't you dare put on a couple of pounds or you will be subject to ridicule. Starving yourself is much better than being "fat". I remember you commented a little while back about how thin Rosa Mendez looked and it made you think maybe somebody said something to her. Wrestling is incredibly physical and performers need their strength. If you have this attitude that the women have to be 100 pounds, their strength will be diminished and they risk hurting themselves and their opponents. Not to mention the less they weigh the less they have to absorb each bump. With women being prone to osteoporosis anyway, wrestling only exacerbates the problem. It was bad enough when WWE pulled this garbage with Vickie Guerrero, a widow trying to provide for her children. But to imply Mickie James is fat is absolutely ridiculous. What are girls watching supposed to think? This talented athletic woman is fat? Most girls watching don't look near as good as Mickie James in a bikini. Are they supposed to starve themselves so that they're thinner than she is? I don't like a lot of the tactics used in politics, but I have no problem if an angle like this is used against Linda McMahon in her run for Senate. WWE's superficiality when it comes to looks should be used against them the same way it would with any other company. WWE for way too long has pushed "look" before talent. Can you imagine the lawsuits there would be if this were any other company? Wrestlers aren't known for being good actors, so seeing Mickie James cry really made me think she legitimately felt hurt. I felt bad for her. She doesn't deserve that kind of treatment. She's been a loyal hard-working employee for WWE and how do they repay her? The way they usually do with good employees- mock her. I also worry about some sexually frustrated tools in the crowd picking up on this and chanting "piggy". Seriously if you do that you're just a douchebag. But with Smackdown being taped I hope everyone checks the spoilers and if they see this angle continues I hope they don't watch the show. This is something worth sending a message over. Let WWE know their fans aren't the stereo-type that we're always painted out to be. Thank you, Mike Drucker |
