--At today's UFC 109 press conference, Dana White said the Chael Sonnen vs. Nate Marquardt winner will become the No. 1 contender for the middleweight title. Dana White used the word "dominate" to describe Randy Couture's win over Brandon Vera. Not quite the term I'd use. He also said they're going to China and he was awarding a $1,000 Cazadores Authentic Spirit Award in the name of Brian Stann, who competes on the undercard. --White also confirmed Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Mitrione on 5/8 in Montreal --For the cable ratings last week, USA was No. 1 with a 2.6 prime time average to 2.2 for ESPN. Spike was No. 15 at 0.9, boosted by the surprisingly high number for the UFC 107 replay. Syfy was No. 16, also at 0.9 Raw was No. 10 and No. 12. State of the Union speech analysis had five of the top ten spots. The Pro Bowl was first with an 8.2 rating while USA shows NCIS were 4.1 and 4.0 and Burn Notice at 3.9 also outrated Raw. Raw as No. 4 and No. 6 in 18-49 and No. 8 and No. 10 in 18-34. --The retirement of Asashoryu, the sumo legend, earlier today in Japan, has been gigantic news over there. Asashoryu, whose older brothers are both pro wrestlers, has been sumo's biggest star for about eight years now and considered top five of all-time in the sport. He allegedly punched somebody while being out on a night of drinking two weeks ago, and they have a very strict conduct code in that sport and even though he's still No. 1, he was forced out. --In the U.K., for the week ending 1/3, Impact did 21,000 viewers, Raw did 51,000 on New Year's Eve and Smackdown did 139,000 viewers, the biggest rating for the show in several years (thanks to Ian Hamilton) --WWE will have a tri- branded super show on 5/22 at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati on 5/22, the night before the Extreme Rules PPV in Detroit.
