Welcome to our live coverage of UFC 109 from the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

 

Rolles Gracie vs Joey Beltran

 

Rd 1

Gracie looks for the clinch right away. He gets the takedown and right into full mount. Joey with a slick reversal and now he is on top. Back up. Gracie lands a shot, but looks really stiff on his feet. He is looking for the takedown again, but is having problems and now eating shots. Round ends with Gracie trying a takedown and not getting it.

 

Rd 2

 

Gracie eats a knee and looks gassed. Ok....he is gassed....BAD. He goes for a takedown, doesnt get it and lays on his stomach as Joey pounds him with shot after shot. Herb Dean steps in and its over. Wow. Joey wins by TKO. Gracie still down. Horrible performance by Gracie. Wow. Not what they were hoping for here.

 

Chris Tuchscherer vs Tim Hague

 

Rd 1

Hague gets a huge pop. Chris rushes in and looks for a takedown. Tim defending well and pushes him off. Chris lands a legkick and takes a shot to the balls for his troubles. Not again. Chris has power, but is sloppy. They clinch. Tim lands an elbow off the clinch. Back to the clinch again. Round ends. Not much action and it could go either way.

 

Rd 2

Chris gets the takedown and is on top. Pushes him up against the cage and starts landing short punches. Tim gets up. Crowd happy with that.  Both guys a bit gassed. Chris pumps the jab and rushes in. Nothing and both guys are tired. They briefly turn it up. Round comes to a close. They better turn it up.

 

Rd 3

Tim comes out on fire and is throwing bombs. Gets the takedown on a tired opponent. Has his back. Nice scramble. Tim back on top and looking to mount. He started to get it and Chris turns over. Tim dropping shots. A tired Chris turns back over to his back and is spent. Tim dropping some elbows. Chris is cut on top of the head. Looking for Kimora. Round ends. Tim won that round for sure and finished strong. Should win this decision. Judges 29-28 29-28 28-28 for CHRIS!? Crowd is livid. Wow. Chris did nothing in rd 3 and was badly outworked.  I had it 29-28 for Tim. Oh well.

 

Brian Stann vs Phil Davis

Rd 1

Stann gets a nice reception from the crowd. They feel each other out. Both landing legkicks. Davis with the takedown. Stann trying to get back up but can't and now is mounted. He turns over. He has his back and is dropping shots. Round end. 10-9 Davis

 

Rd 2

 

Body shot by Stann. Davis takes him down again. Has him mounted briefly, but Stann scrambles. Davis back on top and mount. Stann turns over again and eats some shots. Back to mount. Dropping more shots. Stann is getting beat up but won't quit. Davis puts him in a CRADLE! and is dropping knees. Round ends. 10-9 Davis.

 

Rd 3

 

Stann is going to need a KO. Davis with another takedown. Stann looks for a Kimora briefly as Davis is trying to pass. Davis looking for the Kimora now. Full mount once again. Davis turns him over and gets in the hooks. Back to mount. Stann has a minute to do something. Instead he takes more punches. Davis working hard and is seconds away from a 30-27 decision. Winner: Phil Davis.

 

Phillipe Nover vs Robert Emerson

 

Rd 1

Nover misses a kick and takes a shot trying to get up. They clinch. Emerson gets the takedown. Both working hard. Emerson still on top. Nover scrambles and gets a tight guillotine. Emerson out and back on top. They stand and clinch along the cage. Round ends.

 

Rd 2

 

They exchange some kicks. Emerson hurts him with a punch and is on top now dropping more. Now in side control. Nover works his way back up. He is now bleeding from the nose. They exchange some shots and emerson takes him back down. Round ends. 10-9 Emerson

 

Rd 3

 

Nover gonna need to finish strong if he wants to win this fight. Kick to the nuts. Thats a start. Nover catches him with a knee coming in. They clinch. Emerson trying for the takedown, but this time can't get it. They stand for a bit and Emerson finally scores that takedown. Nover back up and has a standing Guillotine. Emerson escapes and they are back to their feet. Another takedown by Emerson and the fight ends. I have it 30-27 for Emerson. Robert Emerson is your winner.

 * Main undercard saw two things really. Rolles Gracie looked terrible and Phil Davis looked pretty impressive. Nothing else to really speak of....besides Brandon Vera is sitting behind me. Nice.

Ronys Torres vs Melvin Guillard

Rd 1

 

Torres gets a quick takedown. This isn't what Melvin needed. Side control. Melvin gets up....and taken back down. Scramble and back up. Hard legkick by Melvin. Jumping knee attempt by Ronys. Torres looking for the takedown and gets it. Torres working hard, but Melvin defending. Round ends. 10-9 Torres

 

Rd 2

 

Torres corner tips over the bucket. Crowd pops. Both guys come out wild. Torres picks him up and almost wins the Royal Rumble. No really. Torres back on the attack looking for a takedown. Melvin starting to land as both swing wildly. Torres goes for takedown and Melvin helps him by rolling into it. Melvin on top. Round ends. Close. Maybe 10-9 Torres.

 

Rd 3

 

Melvin stuffs a takedown. No really. Lands a jab. Torres gets another takedown and lands in side control. Back up. Both landing shots. Torres with another takedown. He would be smart to keep in there. He does. Fights over. 10-9 Torres. Lets see how the judges see it. I've got it 30-27 Torres. 29-28 across the board for Melvin Guillard?!?! Where is that Cecil.....Wow.

 

Justin Buchholz vs Mac Danzig

 

Rd 1

 

Both guys land some legkicks. Danzig catches a shot to the face. Some dirty boxing lands for both. Legkick by Danzig. Justin lands a shot to the top of the head that stuns Mac briefly. Both are letting their hands fly. Nothing major landed, but a scrappy round. Both guys trying hard.

 

Rd 2

Danzig looking for a takedown, but can't get it. Jab lands. Both pumping the jab. Danzig scores a takedown, but Justin is working for a kimora but doesn't get it. Not for a lack of trying though. They scramble and take turns on top. Round ends with Emerson on top and almost makes the Bones Jones mistake and is warned by Herb Dean. Close round.

 

Rd 3

Justin gets a takedown along the fence. Back up. Justin lands a shot. They clinch along the cage. Justin on top. Scrappy fight. Justin not doing too much from the top. Herb may stand them up. He does. Short flurry by Danzig. Body shot by Danzig. Has him down in side control now and now has his back. Full mount, turns him over and goes for the choke. Doesn't get it as the round ends. Good little fight. Should be close. Judges have it 29-28 for Mac Danzig.

 

Frank Trigg vs Matt Serra opens the PPV

Rd 1

Both guys score an A for entrance music. Trigg from Vegas is the heel. Serra gets a huge ovation. Trigg is much bigger that Matt. Serra low kick. Trigg standing straight up. Not anymore. Serra drops him with a right hand and then follows him down for 3 more. Goodnight Frank.

 

Dan Miller vs Demian Maia

 

Rd 1

They spend the first minute feeling each other out. Maia goes for takedown, but Miller blocks it. They clinch and seperate. Maia better keep his hands up. Goes for another takedown and gets it, but Miller back up, only to take a knee to the balls. Maia better keep his hands up. Another clinch. They seperate again. Round ends.

 

Rd 2

Not much happening early on except some pawing. Three minutes of nothing...and I'm being kind. Crowd is getting restless. Two BJJ guys came to Mandalay to dance. Its a sparring session that should be kept to the gym. Crowd is not happy. Round ends.

 

Rd 3

Third round starts. Do something....even if its wrong. Maia goes for takedown and gets it. He is looking to pass. Decides to stand over and drop some fists. Trying to get him off the cage. He gets another takedown. Miller doing a good job tying him up and is defending well. Crowd wants a standup and is now booing. Round ends. Thank you Jesus. Your winner: Demian Maia. Joe Rogan was impressed with his standup. Ok.  

 

 

 

 

Paulo Thiago vs Mike Swick Rd 1 Paulo is keeping him off balance. Swick is not letting his hands go. Crowd is not happy. Swick lands a big shot, but Paulo drops him! He follows him down and chokes him out. Wow. Huge win.

 

Nate Marquardt vs Chael Sonnen

 

Internet is back up. Sonnen was tremendous here. Just a total animal. He beat up Nate for the majority of three rounds. He was caught in a tight guillotine, but somehow he got out. Crowd was on its feet. Nate was overwhelmed. Chael was a total animal who took the fight to Nate and never backed down. I'm so impressed with this performance. Wow. Crowd loved this fight and so did I. Sonnen wins 30-27, 30-27, 20-27. Internet is gong in and out. Sorry...

 

Mark Coleman vs Randy Couture

 

Rd 1

They come out boxing. Both landing short jabs. Randy is now landing and Mark is rocked. They clinch. Randy landing. Uppercut is landing whenever he wants it to. Randy imposing his will. 10-9 Couture.

 

Rd 2

Randy lands another punch and takes him down. Randy gets his back and is going for the choke. He gets it. Coleman is out. Jesus. Coleman is a mess. Coleman is now doing an interview with Rogan and Tito walked by and said something to Coleman who says "fuck you tito". Crowd is now chanting it. This was a mismatch and i almost feel bad for Mark.
