Renato Verissimo vs. Jake Shields. Shields got him down, passed his guard, and pummeled him into submission. Pretty much a humbling. Shields put him over like a million bucks afterwards. 2. Riki Fukuda vs. Joe Villasenor. Hell of a first round. Fukuda beat on him for the first half, then lost some steam and nearly got knocked batty. Great action. More of the same in the second, but Joe is getting tired and Fukuda is landing more shots. Another super close third round. I'd hate to have to judge this one. Joe won via split decision. You can't complain about this one, unlike England. 3. Gina Carano vs. Tanya Evinger. I have this funny feeling Gina is losing tonight, probably via decision. Shows you what I know. I knew I was fucked when they made mention that she was training with Couture. DAMN THAT GUY. Tanya took her down and dominated on the ground until Gina suddenly swept her and ended up getting her back and choking her out with seconds left in the round. Didn't expect that one. 4. Nick Diaz. vs. Mike Aina. Diaz did not knock him out in the first round. NO BUYS FOR COUGHLIN. Two of the three judges gave Aina the first. Second round was much closer. Aina was landing the harder shots but Diaz was landing more total. Diaz took him down near the finish and was going for a choke when the round ended. So we're onto the third. Third was Diaz's round, but Aina survived. Diaz looked like he was trying to put on an armbar after the bell. Quadros was apparently watching a different fight than I was since he thought the third round was Aina's. Regardless, this one is going to be super close. It was a split decision and Diaz got it. 5. Robbie Lawler vs. Murilo Ninja for the EliteXC/ICON Sport Middleweight Championship. First round is over. You know the story by now. Close. Ninja landed some hard leg kicks, Lawler landed some good combinations. Ninja threw a lot of shots in the second, but seemed to get very tired and was getting hit hard. Probably Lawler's round, but close. Robbie Lawler just knocked the shit out of Murilo Ninja. Ref stopped it in the midst of a BRUTAL ground and pound. This was the Robbie Lawler people were expecting about five years ago. This was a hell of a show. Get the replay if you can. Thanks for joining us tonight! Tony, Vinny and I will be back Sunday night to recap this show, plus the WWE Unforgiven PPV and some thoughts on the first episode of Ultimate Fighter season VI. Thanks for joining us tonight and we'll talk to you then! {plug} |
