Bryan, I was at the ROH show last night, Dr. Keith has all of the results covered, but I figured i'd give you some impressions on the 2 biggest matches. Danielson was super over, probably the most over guy on the show at that point, mind you this was before the main event. Really good match with Morishima, but nothing too extraordinary, Dr. Keith said it went 13 minutes and that sounds about right. Danielson legit wrestled the entire match with one eye. Morishima rips the patch off at the end and lays into him for the ref stoppage. Match had good heat and I'm no expert on star ratings but my uneducated guess would be in the 3 1/2 to 3 3/4 range. Main event was absolutely off the charts and something that cannot be done justice by describing it but I'll try. First thing I noticed was that the ROH ring is definitely smaller than the WWE ring so i wondered how they were going to do any spots with two guys coming off the top onto the mat. They did an awesome job making up for this and they used probably 5 ladders in the match. One of the first big spots was when they wedged a ladder between the ring and the guard rail and power bombed a Briscoe through it (i couldn't tell the briscoes apart, sorry). Multiple big spots on the ladders which ended up all crushed into pieces. Eventually, they went and got a much bigger security ladder and set it up right in the middle of the ring. They used two of the smaller ladders and wedged them between the big ladder and the corner turnbuckles about 4 or 5 feet in the air, and both Briscoes did power moves where they drove their opponents through the smaller ladders and crushed them. The only real negative for me was the end where everyone knew the finish was coming but Briscoe A couldn't unhook the belts. He was pulling on them for a good 60 seconds before they finally came off but they were really building to a big pop when he ripped the belts down and it was definitely delayed while he was fiddling with the belts swinging around on top. I'm guessing they'll edit this down for TV and it will still come across great. I live in Chicago and am privileged to see a lot of good wrestling but the main event ranks right up there with the best matches I've ever seen live. My non-expert star rating for the match was 4 1/2 stars. It also helped that they didn't do anything too crazy in the opening matches and nobody bled so when it was time for the main event they pulled out all the stops and it really seemed special. Crowd chanted 'match of the year' after it was over and before the run-in. I had a hard time hearing the promo by Jacobs and people were chanting 'boring' for a bit but i assume they can edit it down for the PPV and it'll probably come across fine. The Briscoe hanging was awesome and he was just hanging there dripping blood during the promo while the Necro Butcher was walking around wiping blood all over himself. I stood on my chair and got a pic of the hanging before the ROH security ran over and told me no digital cameras (oops). I sent it along in the email so feel free to use it for the page if you'd like. It looks awesome. Overall, the PPV portion was excellent. After the ladder match, they took an intermission and I ended up leaving because I was at the show with some casual fans and nothing they were going to put on was going to top what we'd seen. The Chicago shows usually go too long in my opinion (4 hours or so) and the main events usually don't go on until really late so I was thrilled to see 2 good hours and then call it a night. I definitely felt I got my money's worth and recommend getting the show as the ladder match alone is worth the price. Hope this gives you some insight on what went down. {plug} |
