More live No Mercy thoughts PDF Print E-mail
By Steven Bowe

I've just got back from attending the No Mercy pay per view and i've got two things to say... Triple H is a piece of shit and I really wouldn't mind going to prison in the Punjab as i'm pretty sure I could escape.

I don't know how it came off on TV but I was very dissapointed with it live. When we saw the podium and Vince walking to the ring the guy next to me said 'it will be 20 minutes before we have a match' and he wasn't wrong.

I am a big fan of Orton's on screen work lately and I think it made sense to give him the title. However, I would rather they had just announced some kind of match, a threeway or a four way or whatever and have him win that. But oh know, they could not do that. They could not build the new champion as being the star of the show or the top guy on the roster. Oh know, that honor must be bestowed upon HHH. We have just had Randy Orton announced as the new champion and there he is standing in the ring in the background playing patsy to the Vince and HHH show. Then we have Vince, a man who dispises HHH turning around and giving his nemesis exactly what he wants, a title shot. Absolutely fucking ridiculous. And who above the age of 8 finds Hunter's pathetic dick references funny any more? Of course Hunter the magnificent beats Orton and then goes on to best Umaga way too fucking easily just so we know who really is the top star in the company. Is Hunter so insecure in himself that he has to his ego stroked every fucking week? We know your the boss's son in law, we know you will inherit the company, we know you have the power backstage but for fuck sake will someone stand up to this self centred egotistical selfish prick and tell him to do what is best for the company. Randy Orton should have had one match tonight and won it cleanly in the middle of the ring clearly marking him as the best competitior on the brand right now. Randy Orton and only Randy Orton should have come out of this program tonight looking strong but instead HHH once again looks all conquering and I am fucking sick of it. What is he going to do tomorrow night on Raw, beat up 8 guys without breaking a sweat and make Orton look like even more of a bitch. I don't care if he lost the last man standing match, the guy is a piece of crap. At least now he is one title reign closer to Ric Flair's.

I went to get some water during the 6 man and from the sound of it I didn't miss much. It was good to see Kennedy on the show although what it says for Shelton Benjamin i'm not sure... To quote Trevor Murdoch, 'The result this time will be different because we have a different partner', if thats not a backhanded slap, what is? From what I could hear the live crowd were shitting on Kennedy big time for being from Green Bay. My wife enjoyed London and Kendricks work and Jeff running the guard rail.

Just as I was returning to my seat out came CM Punk, of course to a massive home town reaction, and as I reached my seat the match was over. Complete piece of crap. I know, how about not having 3 HHH matches and actually giving this title match more than 90 seconds. I could have even taken the bullshit DQ finish if it had been caused by a John Morrison run in and it meant the end to the Punk Big V feud but we didnt even get that. The crowd were not pleased.

Pizza contest segment had those around me chanting 'Boring'. This segment would have been lame on a regular Smackdown but on a pay per view, give me a break. Whoever devised this segment should be fired immediately. I figured with them holding off the MVP / Matt Hardy vs The Brothers of Destruction match until Smackdown meant that Undertaker would be involved in the title match tonight. As we didnt see either him or Kane tonight why the hell was this match not on tonight?

Finlay vs Rey was a good match live. From where we were sitting it looked like Finlay may have legitimately hurt himself as it looked like a real nasty landing. For the most part the crowd bought it too and there was even a 'Finlay' chant. However, when they showed the replay it was pretty obvious it was a work. The fact that Rey stuck around also gave it away. Finlay got a lot of heat for the beatdown. It's amazing how small Rey looks when you see him live.

Every single person in the crowd, except me, were completely dead for the womens match. I actually like Beth Phoenix and I'm really glad she won. All you could hear around me were people chatting and when the match was over I think I was the lone person in 20,000 who stood up and cheered. Oh and by the way, not one person got up and raised their hands during Candices entrance with her God awful song and stupid fairy wings. Part of me was actually hoping she would get injured so she would be off my TV screen for the next eight years or so.

The Punjabi Prison match didnt work well live. You could barely see through the cage and the crowd only came alive at the very end. Very cool spot by Big Dave when he jumped from one cage to the other and he got big props for that. It was what it was. Khali is teriible but for them building it up as the most barbaric structure ever I at lease expected some blood or at least brutality. They need to move Umaga to Smackdown ASAP so he and Dave can feud. God knows he's been buried enough on Raw.

By the time the last match came around I was all HHH'd out but the kids around me pooped big for him. This was actually a decent match with the right result but it doesn't change anything I previously said about Hunter. I really hope they keep the belt on Orton for a long time and build him up as a star but I fear they won't. I think Orton and Jericho could have a great feud but that won't happen with HHH around.

Randomn notes: Orton was booed very heavily whenever his name was mentioned or he appeared on screen. The dark match was Bob Holly against Cody Rhodes. They had the exact same match as last week on Raw, with Cody coming close but eventually coming up short. The crowd were in to Holly big time. Cody Rhodes got a ton of heat and a lot of boos as he was leaving the ring. Maybe it was just the Chicago crowd but they definitely were not buying Rhodes as the underdog babyface. It was definitely a legitimate sell out, I didn't see any empty seats in the arena. {plug}
