We're looking for reports from tonight's Smackdown/ECW tapings in Tucson. No Smackdown main event has been announced, but the live ECW match advertised is Kofi Kingston & Kelly Kelly vs. Santino Marella & Layla. The storyline is that Santino is mad Maria is doing Playboy but Kelly supports it. We're also looking for reports from the TNA Impact tapings tonight in Orlando and any live reports from the dark matches and non-Raw activities in Phoenix last night at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

The story behind Floyd Mayweather Jr. coming to WWE as well as the road to Wrestlemania is among several main stories in this coming Monday's jumbo-sized issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

We look at how WWE has worked almost everyone with one aspect of the angle, update on the Wrestlemania card, how the Mayweather match changed several times from the original idea and why. We look at the angle, both the good and the bad, from an execution and business standpoint. We've also got early business notes on No Way Out from Las Vegas, including first indications of how the PPV likely did.

We look at who was behind the Mayweather angle, comparisons to using Mike Tyson, plus full coverage of the show with match-by-match coverage, star ratings and poll results.

We also have an update on WWE negotiations for Smackdown and look at what it says regarding the product. We look at the suitors left standing and how the show would have to change on one of them, probably on the other, as well as what a hit the show's audience levels will take with one deal in place. We look at MyNetwork vs. CW, and an interesting look at where, per-capita, WWE Smackdown has the most popularity right now. This list will surprise a lot of people.

We also have even more coverage of the police report on the death of Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel. We have lots more evidence regarding the last phone calls made from the house, what police believe Chris was thinking, bizarre behavior police found out regarding Chris after killing his wife, more on Nancy's last conversations with friends, drugs found in the house and usage of the drugs, what Dr. Astin told police Chris came to see him about the afternoon he killed Nancy, what questions are completely unanswered as well as an analysis of the evidence and Chris' behavior over he last year of his life. We also look at the threats of impending litigation.

We also have more on Hulk Hogan's talks of starting a wrestling promotion with Eric Bischoff in 2008. We look at Hogan's track record, notes from when the two were legitimately talking about it, problems with starting up now, money needed, and what key indication there is regarding the validity to all this.

We also have an update on the condition of Yuji Nagata, as well as part one of a two-part series of the life of Carolinas wrestling legend Johnny Weaver and his role in the development of Carolinas wrestling, how he came to the Carolinas, life after wrestling and his last big runs.

We also have a lot more on the various legal issues in the Randy Couture case, both the Mark Cuban HD-Net lawsuit that is making headlines, as well as action taken by UFC. We look at the key aspects of the Couture contract and a very interesting note about Couture's quitting UFC that hasn't come out until now.

We have lots more on the WWE's plans for movies going forward, moves the company is making to increase the value of the stock, update on the Hall of Fame ceremonies, plus notes on the conditions laid out for Bobby Lashley's release and what that says about who really had the leverage at the end.

We have lots more on the Ric Flair angle including comments from the person who came up with the original idea and isn't happy how it is turning out, as well as others who were involved in some ways and their feelings. We also have a commentary on the current status of JBL, as well as his own thoughts on his comeback, his condition and where he stands.

We also have notes on a major philosophical change regarding wrestling's presentation made by Vince McMahon in recent weeks, as well as a lawsuit against the company regarding a wrestler who hasn't even been a major star with them in years.

We also have notes on the best selling DVDs, updates on OVW, the arrest of a WWE wrestler this past week, notes on Cena TV commercial, more on FCW, and lots more on the recent successful international tour and all the domestic house shows as well.

We also have full coverage of three more major shows of the past week, the New Japan Sumo Hall show featuring Kurt Angle vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the IWGP title unification as well as featuring several TNA guys, the huge story in Japan regarding one of TNA's biggest stars, who isn't Kurt Angle, looking to remake himself as a shootfighter as well as some strange goings on in that country.

We also have coverage of Elite XC's show, with business notes, the dynamic that made the match so successful and where Kimbo Slice's career goes next, match-by-match coverage as well as poll results on the show.

We also have a look at the Inoki Genome Federation show, including TNA stars on the show, and legends of wrestling who either appeared live or sent into videotapes to the show, which included Vince McMahon and Dusty Rhodes. We look at the business, the Inoki concept, and the different ideas thrown around regarding where to take the company next.

We also have ratings from the national TV shows over the past week as well as results from the major league house shows, and the major TV show reviews.

--A big day for WWE news with the announcement of Smackdown going to MyNetworkTV, as well as a movie distribution deal with 20th Century Fox and all the Floyd Mayweather pub. As a publicly traded company, WWE is not allowed to make false statements about economic matters. Leonard Ellerbe of Mayweather's camp can say whatever he wants about $20 million, but when a WWE officer, Shane McMahon, is publicly confirming the number, one would think it should be true. But economically, that figure makes no sense at all. If they set an all-time pro wrestling PPV record, Mayweather could be argued as being worth $5 million in additional income to the show. There are DVD sales involved, but celebrities haven't meant much to Mania DVD sales. The 2007 Mania didn't come close to the 2006 Mania in DVD sales even though 2007, due to Donald Trump, was the record setter on PPV. Mayweather threw $6,000 to the crowd at yesterday's press conference so they'd have footage where it looked like people liked him. Even though he played complete heel until that point, on last night's TV he was portrayed as the face.

--The Mayweather stuff was covered everywhere and now is a major topic of discussion, largely due to the figure being thrown around. Ellerbe said he actually came to WWE last year, but the truth is, pre-De La Hoya, Mayweather wasn't a big enough star to make a buy rate difference, and last year's Mania schedule-wise wouldn't work out because the fight was in May and he was in training. He said the sides made the deal a month ago.

--The 20th Century Fox deal gives that company a right of first refusal to be the distributor for WWE theatrical releases. The company has once again had a philosophy change regarding theatrical releases, now wanting to do one major project and 3-4 minor (straight to DVD) projects per year under the auspices of new WWE Films President Michael Lake. The Cena movie "12 Rounds," being filmed in New Orleans starting today, is the first movie as part of the multi-year deal.

--Will Floyd Mayweather mean more than Donald Trump for Wrestlemania buys
More 50.7%
Less 49.3%

--Official new matches are Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels (I thought the setup was tremendous) and Beth Phoenix & Melina vs. Maria & Candice Michelle in the Playboy Bunny match. Umaga will also face someone from Smackdown in a General Managers representatives challenge. This may be where Batista fits in..

--The Subcommittee on Commerce Trade & Consumer Protection (the Bobby Rush committee) has a hearing at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow on "Drugs in Sports: Compromising the Health of Athletes and Undermining the Integrity of Competition." Scheduled to testify include George Mitchell, Bud Selig, David Stern, Donald Fehr, William Hunter, Roger Goodell, Gary Bettman, Gene Upshaw, Paul Kelly, Jim Scherr (US Olympic Committee), Travis Tygart (US Anti-Doping Agency), Myles Brand (NCAA President) plus reps from High School sports and horse racing. The purpose is to garner testimony and introduce a bill to law regarding how to combat drug use in sports. It will be a very important point if the bill is to be written to include pro wrestling. It will surely include boxing and MMA.

--It was officially announced that the 4/2 Ultimate Fight Night special on Spike will be a three hour show starting at 7 p.m. That had been expected and Spike made the final call on it yesterday. Matches that will air live are:
Kenny Florian vs. Joe Lauzon
Karo Parisyan vs. Thiago Alves
Matt Hamill vs. Tim Boetsch
Houston Alexander vs. James Irvin
Nate Diaz vs. Kurt Pelligrino

Seven other matches will be taped before hand and inserted if time allows. The show precedes the debut of the new season of Ultimate fighter at 10 p.m.

--Dan Henderson was on Jim Rome is burning yesterday to build up his match with Anderson Silva. He talked about the difference between the ring and the cage and was very positive about how UFC had treated the Pride fighters. Henderson comes off as a quiet nice guy on these shows, confident in himself but never saying anything disrespectful. (thanks to Jeff Thornton)

--Mick Foley appeared last night at the Station Fire Night Club Victims Benefit Concert in Providence, RI at the Dunkin Donuts Center. That was the famous night club that burned to the ground that got a lot of publicity. He introduced Twisted Sister and got a huge reaction from the crowd. He said he was there as the representative of the WWE and to support the families victimized by the fire. I was told it also looked like he's dropped weight since he was last on Raw (thanks to Joe Capuano)

--William Rhoden of the New York Times today wrote about how boring the Klitschko-Ibragimov fight was on Saturday saying that matches like this will drive the public to MMA. Jim Lampley is quoted saying, "I have seen some MMA shows that would drive MMA fans to boxing." He said "You know Floyd is going over," when asked about the match with Big Show. IFL head Jay Larkin was quoted saying UFC is building a new and different fan base and not taking fans from boxing, but said if UFC closes a network deal, that could be the nail in the coffin of boxing (thanks to Jonathan D'Antoni)

--Bob Meyrowitz's Yamma Pit Fighting announced the already reported Don Frye vs. Oleg Taktarov main event for his debut show at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City which will be on PPV. There will also be an eight-man tournament with five names confirmed as Marcelo Pereira, Sherman Pendergarst, Rex Richards (310 pound former San Jose Sabrecats lineman who is 4-1, only loss to Shane Carwin), Tony Sylvester and Travis Wiuff.

--WWE announced a multi-year deal with the Make-A-Wish Foundation today in Phoenix

--They did a rare angle on Heat last night. They were celebrating the 500th episode of the show and Jim Duggan was celebrating and he was jumped by Paul Burchill.

--Victory Pro Wrestling on 3/8 in Centereach, NY at VFW Post 4927. Special guests at the show are Molly Holly and UFC fighter Pete "Drago" Sell who will be signing autographs

--The newspaper The Province in British Columbia has a story about Gurv and Harv Sirha doing the legendary Tony Condello Death tour where they go to the small towns in the middle of nowhere where you have to drive over frozen lakes to get to. It talked about their dreams of making it to WWE. The story claimed that Scott Norton, early in his career, did the tour and broke into tears because he thought he was never going to make it back alive. They went last year and noted the crew at one point was stranded for 13 hours when the van slid into a snowbank. They note their favorite wrestlers were Guerrero and Benoit, noting how in wrestling they are both still viewed as two of the best wrestlers of the generation, but to the general public, one died of drug-related death and the other did what he did.
