PWG ¡Dia de los Dangerous! results for Feb. 24 PDF Print E-mail
By Daniel Short

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla returns to the American Legion Post in Reseda, California for "¡Dia de los Dangerous!" on February 24. The show starts about ten minutes late, which is actually quite early for PWG, and Commissioner Dino Winwood and Commissioner of Food and Beverage Excalibur will be doing live commentary for the DVD for the first time.

1. DDT4 Qualifying Round Robin Series Match

Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson (0 pts.) vs. Ronin and Scorpio Sky (2 pts.)

Very good, fun opening match that everyone expected it to be. Literally five minutes into the match, Matt did a moonsault move during which his feet busted one of the small overhead bulbs causing them to wrestle most of the match watching for small shards of the broken bulb on the mat. Everyone shined in this fast-paced match that ended with the Young Bucks scoring the pinfall after Nick rolled Scorpio up for the win.

Winners: Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson (2 pts.)

2. PWG World Heavyweight Championship Mini-Tournament Match

Frankie Kazarian vs. Karl Anderson

This was originally supposed to be Austin Aries vs. Karl Anderson, but complications regarding Aries' flight caused them to change the match just days before. Then came the shocking news that his replacement was Frankie Kazarian. Given that the Motor City Machine Guns will be making a return to ROH in April, it's possible the TNA talent are no longer locked up. Or this could be just a one time deal. In either event, Kazarian was back and was given a shot to regin the PWG Championship. A pretty darn good match went down with both men having done a great job putting over the importance of the match. Anderson won with the foot on the ropes pin. Frankie got a standing ovation and a "Please come back!" chant.

Winner: Karl Anderson

3. DDT4 Qualifying Round Robin Series Match

Hook Bomberry and TJ Perkins (2 pts.) vs. Phoenix Star and Zokre (0 pts.)

A good match between all four involved. Hook may not gel all that well with everyone else, but his recent heel character both spiced up the match and some of the action in PWG itself. This time around, his character was further fleshed out as being even more of an ego-maniac than last month. The finish saw Phoenix Star get the pin on Hook after hitting him with a torture rack into face plant onto Zokre's knees. Ouch. TJ and Hook continued to not work well as a team like everyone else. The wins tonight meant all four are tied up going into the next show.

Winners: Phoenix Star and Zokre (2 pts.)

4. Candice LaRae vs. Daffney

The first "official" women's match in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla went down and it was actually very good. Both girls pulled out the stops in creating an engaging story that everyone would enjoy. They even put together a couple wacky submissions that won approval from the fans. The finish saw Candice get the win and both girls getting a standing ovation for their efforts. Impressive first test for a full women's match in PWG, so let's see where they'll go from here.

Winner: Candice LaRae

Post-match, Human Tornado immediately ran to the ring and attacked Candice. He was about to hit her with the FU when Necro came out and brawled with him to start up their match.

5. PWG World Heavyweight Championship Mini-Tournament Match

Human Tornado vs. Necro Butcher

From the get go, the match was an all out brawl with no rules. They went out onto the floor where Necro had full advantage. He ran Tornado through all kinds of chairs and then all the way to the bar where he got himself a beer. Yep, Necro ordered a beer during the match. Tornado wanted to take it a step further and ordered shots for both, leading to them during the drunk men punching contest seen in past Necro matches. This was where both men sat in chairs in the middle of the ring and tried throw the hardest punch. Tornado was losing badly, so he kicked Necro. All kinds of great, crazy action involving various uses of chairs that led to heart-stopping nearfalls before Tornado got the win doing his version of the Spiral Tap onto Necro buried underneath a pile of chairs. Great match from start to finish.

Winner: Human Tornado

Intermission kicked off with Necro immediately going from the ring straight to the bar for some more beer. Daffney would set up shop at the merchandise table and was accompanied surprisingly by WWE's Jimmy Wang Yang. After intermission ended, Commissioner Dino Winwood and Commissioner of Food and Beverage Excalibur hit the ring. First they cleared up that it was a triple-threat match tonight with Roderick Strong and not Human Tornado vs. Karl Anderson as ring announcer Jon Ian goofed a number of times previously. Then Excalibur announced that the tag team champions after tonight would defend the belts at the next show on March 7 against The Briscoes. There was a mixture of excitement and groans since the Briscoes were notorious in PWG for not showing up as scheduled because they missed their flights due to last minute injuries or getting too drunk to remember to board the plane on time. Dino led a "They won't show!" chant.

6. PWG World Tag Team Championship

Joey Ryan and Scott Lost © w/Jade Chung vs. Delirious and Hallowicked Let me say right off the bat that Joey Ryan dyed his hair blonde. My God did this clash heavily with his beard and overall ring wear. Any way, Delirious was just as awesome as ever. At one point he thought a big black fan was Chris Hero just because he wore Hero's sweater hoodie and then spent a couple minutes putting together different ways to do a schoolboy and call out "Schoolgirl!" Hallowicked had a good showing given that this was only his second ever appearance in PWG and the last was way back in October 2004. A good, fun match that was well put together from start to finish before the Dynasty got the win with a surprise pin on Delirious.

Winners: Joey Ryan and Scott Lost, STILL Champions

7. PWG World Heavyweight Championship - Triple-Threat Match Human Tornado vs. Karl Anderson vs. Roderick Strong

Even though he was only wrestling once on this show, the scars from wrestling the previous night was quite evident on Roderick's body. Thereby making things equal in terms of physical condition for all three. It was hard hitting from the get go and all three were looking to lay as much damage as they could to eliminate all the opposition and claim the vacant PWG Championship. The fans were split between all three and it was any one's guess as to who would win. The finale came when everyone hit their finishers for nearfalls until Tornado managed to pull a pin on Anderson with a springboard Spiral Tap. Though there could be some controversy given that Roderick was breaking up the pin just as the referee counted three. Either way, Human Tornado reclaimed the PWG Championship and it could lead into taking his feud with Chris Hero to another level. Great match to end the show on.

Winner: Human Tornado, NEW Champion

A big, rowdy show from start to finish with a lot to like and very little that brought the show down. The brawl between Necro and Tornado was great fun as was the triple-threat main event. The women's match was really good and so was the opening tag team match. The next show is on March 7 potentially with The Dynasty defending against the Briscoes.

---

Friday, March 7 has been officially announced as PWG Scared Straight. Human Tornado defends the PWG World Heavyweight Championship against the returning Jack Evans, who is seeking revenge against the man who broke his face in Japan. Joey Ryan and Scott Lost defend the PWG World Tag Team Championship against the returning Jay and Mark Briscoe (if they show). Eddie Kingston returns to face Necro Butcher in an all-out brawl. Claudio Castagnoli also returns against Roderick Strong. The final set of the DDT4 Qualifying Round Robin Series takes place with Hook Bomberry and TJ Perkins vs. Ronin and Scorpio Sky followed by Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson vs. Phoenix Star and Zokre. As you've noticed, a lot of returns being made for this stacked show. Chris Hero, El Generico and Bryan Danielson will be in Germany for the wXw 16-carat Gold Tournament. Second straight PWG show Generico will be missing. The last time he didn't wrestle a PWG show was Night Two of the 2006 Battle of Los Angeles. All this taking place once again at the American Legion Post in Reseda, California at 8pm. {plug}
