UFC 83: Serra vs St-Pierre 2 - Saturday April 19, 2008 - Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec
Lots of people putting money on several of the fights tonight since the odds are so ridiculously long. The key to tonight's show is how St. Pierre does in front of his hometown crowd, which is going to go haywire for him. It's a chance for him to really make that jump to money-drawing superstar, which is the lifeblood of any entertainment or sports-entertainment business. He could also choke, though most people do not expect that. Anything can happen in a real fight, though, and Serra did upset him once. Mike Coughlin has a preview of the big fight elsewhere on the front page. There seems to be a lot of interest in this and it should break 600,000 buys, perhaps hitting as high as 700,000 or 750,000. We will be doing free live ongoing play-by-play on the front page starting at 7:00 PM PST/10:00 PM EST. Vinny, Coughlin and I will be up late tonight with a Bryan & Vinny Supershow for members. We'll be discussing this PPV, Smackdown, ECW, TNA and Ultimate Fighter, so it may be a long one. Also for members, we did two Figure Four Dailies yesterday, one with Mike Sawyer talking UFC, pro-wrestling, and general Las Vegas debauchery, and another very late night with Dave Meltzer talking all the news in pro-wrestling and MMA. I want to personally thank Dave again for staying up until 3:00 AM to do the show. Also, thanks to everyone for their patience with the audio on the show. Long story short, we got a winter storm here in late April in Seattle, and despite the fact that I have underground wiring we lost power. I had to drive to Vinny's and do the show using a portable voice recorder and the speaker phone on my cell. It actually turned out better than I expected, but still below our usual par. Power is back on this morning so we should be back to normal for tonight's show. That's also why we're doing one supershow as opposed to a show Friday and Saturday night. We'd love your feedback from Montreal if you attend, or reports from any other pro-wrestling shows you might head to this weekend. ROH ran Friday night and has another show tonight.
