Smackdown TV report for May 9 Print E-mail
By Mitch Jones

Apologies for a late and shorter review this week. Silly assignment week. Nonetheless, SmackDown begins with a recap of last week’s title stripping, leading into Vickie Guerrero being wheeled onto the stage. The GM announces that The Undertaker, minus his chokehold, will face the winner of tonight’s “Championship Chase” featuring any current or former World, US or ECW champion on the SmackDown or ECW roster at Judgment Day.

Matt Hardy defeats CM Punk in the first Chase match. Punk attempts a roll-up but Hardy hooks Punk’s leg and gets the three-count.

Finlay and MVP go to a draw when Finlay hit’s a back suplex and both men have their shoulders down for the pin. A poor cop-out finish.

Kelly Kelly, complete with awful music, faces Natalya with Victoria accompanying her. Kelly does a pre-match clap to get the fans behind her. She’s met with sweet wonderful silence. Kelly taps to the Sharpshooter in the end and Natalya is your winner.

Backstage, Vickie Guerrero allows MVP and Finlay to advance in the Chase.

Batista beats John Morrison in a surprisingly competitive (and enjoyable) match. The springboard spinning kick is caught with a Spear from Big Dave and the Batista Bomb finishes the match.

Big Show is WALKING.

Former ECW champion Tommy Dreamer takes on former World, US and ECW champion The Big Show in the Chase. A short squash, Show finishes Dreamer with a choke slam for the win.

The final Chase qualifier sees Kane pin Chavo Guerrero. Chavito attempts a sunset flip but Kane sits on his chest and gets the win. Post-match, Kane takes out Bam Neely.

Vladimir Kozlov destroys Kaz-lookalike Phil Atlas with a reverse DDT.

The Chase match winners face off in a Battle Royal to end the show. MVP eliminates Matt Hardy over the top rope. Kane takes out Finlay. MVP misses his running kick to the face and the momentum takes him over the ropes to the floor. A spear to Kane allows Big Show to clothesline Kane outside. Batista finally eliminates Big Show to win the match, but Vickie Guerrero comes out and states that Edge has just been medically cleared and will now face Batista. Edge races to the ring and spears Big Dave to the floor to win the match and get his title shot.

The conclusion of the shows see Edge stare down the belt podium on the stage, only to see the podium catch fire and the bell of The Undertaker toll.
