NWA Upstate 4th Anniversary show: 'Cage Carnage'

Dome Arena in Henrietta, NY est. crowd of (at least) 600 people

NWA Upstate, Rochester, NY 's flagship promotion celebrated it's 4th year with a packed house & a hell of a fun little show.

• Pre-card festivities included a 5 song-set by local teen emo band, The Boy & His Machine. They weren't bad. They were no Blink-180 degrees or My Chemical Dependency...but they did alright. They're on MySpace, iTunes & all that shit...

• Opening match saw Sweet Lou win a triple threat over Maximo Suave & Coconut Jones (who had a brand new manager named 'Superbad' Ricky Venice - who basically looked exactly like Jack Black from Nacho Libre when he wore his casual civilian clothes)

• Then, to conclude their epic (fail) trilogy Dewey (who this month donned the persona of Yokodewey - complete with sumo attire & the old WWF theme music) beat the Dustytaker in a pine-box casket match.

• The McCloud Brothers won a four team scramble over Upstate tag champs Rhythm & Booze, Dunn & Marcos and Cloudy & Brodie Lee.

• Big Cat Lemmer squashed fan favorite (and Delirious/Mankind offspring) Spazz.

• Former Shimmer champion, Sara Del Ray went to a no-contest with Portia Perez (who is totally HOT in person, btw) when Brodie Lee & Cloudy returned to avenge their previous loss by challenging both girls.

• Brodie Lee & Cloudy won the subsequent tag match when Brodie power-bombed poor Portia into a Carlito-style backstabber by Cloudy for the eventual pin.

• Gabe Saint won the Upstate No-Limits title over Cheech in a damn good match. Best of the show, up to that point.

• Triple X, Super Assassin, Mastiff & Johnny Puma beat Starrider, Platinum, Rip Impact & Vida Loca in an 8 man-tag. Vida Loca was a masked luchador whose signature move was the '3-1-5'....get it?

• Next was a run-in by rival promotion 2CW. This is the promotion out of Syracuse, NY where Sandman recently took a drunken nap during his match & got on YouTube. Blah, blah, blah....2CW cut the heel promo....Upstate guys ran them off, but not before challenging them to an Upstate/2CW War Games match at the next show.

• Pepper Parks won a triple threat over Ricky Reyes & AJ Styles. AJ was GOD in this arena tonight. Standing ovation & babyface pop like you wouldn't believe. No matter how he's being portrayed on Impact, he was clearly the person everyone paid to see. Great match. AJ got to work with 2 solid performers in Reyes & Parks. Kinda bummed to see that Pepper Parks was without the NWA National Heavyweight title. I'm guessing Tully Blanchard finally won his long-awaited rematch.

• 'Dastardly' Danny Doring retained the NWA Upstate championship over former champ Jimmy Olsen in a hell of a Steel Cage Match. Lots of high impact moves & unprotected chair shots in this one. Olsen juiced & actually escaped the cage after a ref bump, only to be caught before his feet hit the floor by Big Cat Lemmer. Lemmer made it impossible for Olsen to win, throwing him back into the cage & slamming the door into Olsen's head numerous times. Doring very slowly & deliberately walked out of the cage & onto the floor as Jimmy tried to crawl after him to no avail.

Again, a fun show. Next one is June 28th, this time in downtown Rochester at the Main Street Armory (featuring TNA's Eric Young).
