By Francis Rowe Lucha Libre London Show at The Roundhouse in Camden, London. Friday 4/7/08 On hot night in Camden London the Roundhouse was jammed full. This show was very close to if not a sell-out of around 2,000 people. The crowd was jacked up all night vociferously cheering and booing all night and was the best crowd I may ever see including ROH, TNA crowds at there best. It really made the night and all the wrestlers recognised this and worked very hard. This show was also filmed so I hope we get a dvd! Ring announcer hammed it up was tremendous all night making you want to see each and every single wrestler. 1. Mascarita Sagrada + Octagoncito beat Pentagoncito + Bracito de Plata in around 15 minutes. The minis were very popular with the crowd with Bracito slapping the hell out of the technicos. Fun comedy match with the usual mini spots. 2. Magno + El Hijo Del Solitario beat Black Fish + Cassandro in around 20 minutes. Crowd went nuts all match for Cassandro who made everyone laugh and then made their draws drop as his acrobatics were incredible in this match in which he was clearly the star (possibly of the night). Good match with great work. In the ***1/2 range. 3. Negro Navarro beat Solar via submission in a one fall match in around 12 minutes. Negro was the only wrestler who didn't quite get the star reaction everyone else did in their entrances but despite playing rudo he was super over with loud chants by half way through the match. Match showcased the technical submission move style of mexican wrestling and still got over with a rowdy crowd. 4. Blue Demon jr, Silver King + Cien caras jr beat El Hijo Del Santo, Huracan Ramirez + Incognito in around 25 minutes. Atmosphere was booming for this with Santo positioned as Mega Star and Silver King butchering English and riling the crowd on the mic before the match and after. King was a mega rudo here with heelish antics throughout the match including running along the seat of my chair(we were all standing by this point) to get away from Incognito. I did mark out a little as he used my shoulders to lean on and he is strong or really heavy! Great match with the crowd really going nuts in this one. It was approaching **** as the crowd live at least really made this match special. Awesome show in my first taste of lucha libre and I hope they come back! After seeing this and the NOAH and friday TNA show in the last 3 weeks; I'd say this show had the best crowd by far but the NOAH show in the ring was really awesome and will probably be the best card all year. TNA had a good show but came a distant third to the above two. Francis Rowe, UK {plug} |
