Tonight's guests are Rob Schneider (MMA Legend), Jay Hieron (IFL Welterwieght Champ), and Kim Couture (who, fortunately for her, but unfortunately for anyone watching Inside MMA, did not have her jaw wired shut after breaking it in her last fight). We start with a Recap of UFC 86. Bas agrees that Griffin won the fight. The SmackTrack numbers show that Griffin landed 145 of 441 strikes throughout the fight while Rampage landed 84 of 173. Jay also agrees with the decision, thinking Forrest won the fight by winning the last round. In a strange anomaly, all the fighters in Inside MMA's top ten Light Heavyweight rankings are UFC fighters. In News with Ron Kruck, Jake Ellenberger has been suspended 6 months for his conduct (flipping off his opponent and trying to fight him) after being soundly beaten by Ric Story in an upset. Rampage's leg injury is not a bad as feared. It was diagnosed as a deep bone bruise. Fedor will fight two more times this year, on the Affliction show in October and on 12/31 in Japan. Affliction has sold 9,000 tickets for next week's show and will allow the use of elbows on the ground. Next is a discussion of whether MMA is becoming too much like boxing, prompted by the ABC recommendation of 14 weight classes after their recent meeting in Montreal. Bas thinks that amount of weight classes is not needed. That amount of weight classes will dilute championships. He believes that any size difference between fighters should be made up by conditioning and technique. He agrees that there may be a place for one more division between 205 lbs. and 265 lbs. Regarding Rob's request to be explained the recommendation relating to blows to the back of the head, Bas says it is simple. You can't hit a guy anywhere that Chuck Liddell has hair. Regarding elbows, Rob thinks that they are not needed in MMA. They lead to excessive blood which hurts MMA's mainstream appeal. Bas also doesn't like elbows. Elbows only lead to cuts. They do not knock out opponents. MMA in Japan is more exciting, according to Bas, because not allowing elbows leads to more submission attempts and better technical fights. Next is a painfully long full disection of Kim Couture's last fight. Thank god for the fast forward button. Rob's next movie, his first as director, is an MMA themed movie named "Big Stan". Jay is in limbo right now. He is under contract to IFL, but there is nothing scheduled so he continues to train and wait. Rob asks how many fights an MMA fighter should have per year to retain maximum effectiveness. Jay believes 3 or 4 is perfect. Last year he had 5, training for 6, and found that to be excessive. Bas notes he had 10 fights in his first year in Pancrase. Bas then tells a story from Japan where 3 American GI's tried to pick a fight with him. He said one guy kept coming back for more. First he arm barred him, letting him go after he screamed in pain. He came back, so Bas Knee barred him until he screamed and let him go. He came back again, so Bas choked him out and took his pants. He didn't say whether he then "made him humble" like the Iron Sheik advocates. Ron Kruck highlights the first 6 months of MMA this year. Among the "bests", best knockout is the double KO with Tyler Bryan/Shaun Parker from Indianapolis and best fight was Eddie Alvarez/Joachim Hansen. Highlights from shows is Tampa and Belterra, Indiana are shown.
