This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it It's among the craziest weekends in history here. Tonight, we're taking polls on both the Affliction PPV and the UFC live show on Spike, so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it We'll also be doing a poll tomorrow night for the Great American Bash. No poll on Sunday night for the Dream show because our experience is not enough people are going to watch the show on HD-Net. We're also looking for reports on tonight's WWE tri-branded house show in Springfield,MA and the TNA house show tonight in Monroe, LA. TNA also has a house show tomorrow night in North Little Rock, AR, that we're looking for reports on. The WWE weekend has the Great American Bash at the Nassau Coliseum tomorrow night, which is sold out, as well as Raw on Monday night from Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT, also sold out. Tuesday will be Smackdown & ECW tapings in Philadelphia. We will have live coverage of the Affliction PPV and the live UFC show starting at about 7 p.m. Ben Miller is live in Las Vegas and Bryan and I are live in Anaheim. Bryan and I will be doing a post-show on Affliction and the latest wrestling news late tonight. We will have another radio show tomorrow night covering the Great American Bash and we'll likely discuss UFC at that time as well. Monday we'll be doing our regular show after Raw. Tonight's Affliction line-up: Some notes. Sylvia cut to make the weight and was guzzling the Pedialyte after weigh-ins and will probably come in at 280+. . . Donal Trump was a complete clown. After Michael Buffer kept saying that tickets were still available (for what it's worth, they are claiming 10,700 sold for $2 million), Donald Trump came out and talked about how all the tickets are sold out and how the pay-per-view numbers are through the roof (luckily he has a time machine that the rest of us don't have). Bryan actually had the best line as Trump was giving his speech saying just pretend it's Hulk Hogan. Fedor and Arlovski got the best reactions. Strong reactions but nothing close to the level of a B.J. Penn, Georges St. Pierre type at a UFC event. I'd say 1,500 at the weigh-ins. Very different fan base than a UFC crowd. Aside from the media, which was out in droves, the fans were Males 18-34 but a total pro wrestling looking audience. UFC draws the same age group to the weigh-ins but a very different look. Sylvia was booed, but not heavily booed, but he seemed sad by that reaction. UFC weigh-ins for tonight in Las Vegas: A note for both print and on-line, that what is traditionally the biggest issue of the Observer each year, the 2008 Hall of Fame issue, which comes out in late August, will be part of the package for all new subscribers who sign up for 12 issues of the print edition or three months of the web site. This coming Monday's issue has the 2008 Hall of Fame ballot as well as a look at the Chris Benoit question and who were the most popular in the 2007 election in each of the different categories. It's the first preview of what is usually the most talked about issue of the year. Full details of what happened with Quinton Jackson's arrest, charges, what he was doing, as well as a report on numerous MMA arrests and problems in recent months is the lead story in this coming Monday's issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The issue is available right now to premium members of the site. The story gives details of the police chase, accidents, eye witness reports, as well as notes on decisions Dana White, Lorenzo Fertitta and UFC now have to make and WVWD (What Vince would do). We look at the political aspects of the decision making as well as why it's very important for Jackson to try and avoid a felony conviction because of how it could affect his career. We also look at other fighters with recent arrests and issues with UFC ties. We also have an update on MMA rules and how the Association of Boxing Commissioners has issued a statement regarding the rules they agreed to last week. We've got more on the new committee, who the key players on the committee are, and how the commissioners are looking at having unified North American rules for the sport. We have more of a look at the pros and cons of more weight classes, as well as the reactions of California and Nevada to the rules talked about at the meeting. We've got a complete rundown of TNA's Victory Road PPV, with poll results, business notes and a lot of questions that the people in the company were talking about after the show regarding crowd makeup. We look at how the audience was different than expected and big surprises about the reaction, and what the belief was that they signified. We look at the main event booking, early buy rate indications and match-by-match coverage. We've got more on the WWE announcing situation as well as a lot of news around the new Legends of Wrestlemania videogame. We also have the major TV show reviews from the past week as well as notes regarding The Undertaker, the original Edge/Vickie angle and where it was to go, thoughts on where Raw is headed, new TV characters, a major store uses two WWE stars in a local ad they are considering for a national push in 2009. We've got notes on Chris Jericho talking about the difference in the locker room now from when he first came in. We've got more on Ric Flair, Rey Mysterio, a national TV show award a WWE star is up for, schedule changes, best selling DVDs, a major star doing a turn that hasn't been teased on TV that at least this week's new house show bookings would indicate. We've got notes on more wrestlers about to return, an update on the business from the Latin American tour last week as well as business and rundown of all the WWE house shows this past week including new main events and main eventers being tried out. Some of that increase from last week is New York airing in its regular slot, but most is the wedding, which at least in WWE, always draws. The New York preemption last week probably explains the week delay because doing it on a week New York isn't airing in its normal slot would squander a likely higher than average number. Final angle draw more viewers than most segments on Raw on Monday. It should be the highest rated Smackdown in a while. --TNA drew a 1.1 on Thursday --HHH vs. Edge is almost certain in the main event position tomorrow night at the Bash. From all accounts, the two matches with the most interest are that one and Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho. --There has been a ton of last minute pub for the Affliction show, largely due to the value of having Donald Trump, even if what he says is so embarrassing, he gets press. Some stuff includes www.nymag.com and www.miamiherald.com Large ads in USA Today (which has run several features on the show) and the Wall Street Journal in recent days and tons of money spent advertising on major market top rated sports talk radio shows. I can almost guarantee they will announce a PPV number very quickly (some sources say as early as Monday). Whether that'll be a real number or not is anyone's guess. There is a buzz that I'd say none of the other non-UFC PPVs have had. --Megadeth plays three songs tonight at the Affliction show during an intermission. When that was announced at the weigh-ins, about eight people clapped. --The ring for Affliction is gigantic, at 30x30. My gut is too big but we'll see how the fights develop. --Dana White made the official announcement of the October UFC PPV on 10/25 at the All-State Arena in Chicago. Two weeks earlier, TNA is doing its Bound for Glory PPV from the Sears Center in Chicago. Even though we know virtually the entire card for Birmingham, England the prior Saturday, which is a Spike TV special, White didn't announce any matches for the PPV. --Matt Morgan is scheduled to be part of a group of American Gladiators (obviously Gina Carano not being one of them) appearing at tonight's Affliction PPV. If he's shown on the screen, I expect they'll call him Beast and not Morgan. NBC has a video up at http://www.nbci.com/American-Gladiators/bios/beast.shtml for Morgan's debut on the show that airs on Monday. --As noted before, Undertaker is also at the show. Affliction is pushing Undertaker for its post-show party, the only non-fighter being advertised. The only other person not on the card advertised for their post-fight party is Georges St. Pierre. --No word on what Aleksander Emelianenko was pulled from the show. Commissioner Bill Douglas only said he failed to meet licensing requirements and couldn't say anything else. When they are quiet on the reasons, it normally means something medical as due to California law, they aren't allowed to release those conditions without the consent of the person himself. Douglas said it was something discovered about one hour before he was scheduled on the scale yesterday. --Ultimo Guerrero & Rey Bucanero will be appearing on TNA house shows on 8/1 in Corpus Christi and 8/2 in Laredo --Karen Angle's TNA talk show will be a backstage sit-down deal starting on next week's show. It will be pre-taped and not done before a live audience.
