From Mike Barrett:
Crowd was pretty hot throughout, but a bit burned out by I've only attended about 15 ROH shows but this was the best of the bunch. This show flowed perfectly from top to bottom. The construction on the QEW/Gardner was absolutely horrible. I feel really bad for the people who gotta go thru that every day. No Pre Show matches which were a surprise. Return date is 11/8 but at a different venue. It was really crammed in there as this place was a sweat box. Chris Hero d Ruckus in 6:27. Sweeney did a pre match, anti-Canadian interview. Chris hit some forearm/elbow combo and then won with a boot to the face. Good opener that the totally got the crowd into it. Delirious d Kenny Omega in just under 8 minutes via the cobra stretch. Really good for the time they got. Never saw Kenny before and he was impressive. Sara Del Ray d Jennifer Blake. They only went 3:23. Don't know the finish. Erick Stevens v Go Shiozaki ended in a 15 minute draw. Probably ****1/4 level. Larry told everyone that Go was only paid to go 15 and wouldn't wrestle anymore tonight. INTRO: LANCE STORM!!! Storm completely put over ROH. Larry started backing off and then, Hero (who came out from the entrance way) & Go jumped Lance & Stevens. Faces made the comeback, Storm put over Stevens. Really fun! I can see Storm managing Stevens or the Marufuji/Strong team tonight at the ppv. Bryan Danielson d Claudio Castagnoli @ 21:23 via a rollup. Probably ****. I'm guessing a lot of this played off their Chicago match from last month. Easily the best match of the 1st half. Awesome mat stuff mixed with some comedy. Good false finishes with Bryan kicking out of the Riccola, Claudio escaping Cattle Mutiliation, etc. . .Bryan put over Canada as a success for ROH. INTERMISSION Naomichi Marufuji d Roderick Strong in 17:00 flat with the Shinauri. This was the match of the night until the next match ended. Just awesome stuff by both. This should've been taped for PPV. Tons of nearfalls as Strong hit everything and a little bit more and still couldn't finish Marufuji off. It's weird seeing Roddy as a face again but he's much better at it than a heel. Nigel McGuinness escaped Toronto with the ROH World Title with a heart wrenching victory over Kevin Steen in 30:59 with a lariat. It started slow and they went longer than I thought but by the time the false finishes rolled around, they had the crowd in the palms of their hands culminating when Kev hit the package piledriver and the sharpshooter on Nigel. It wasn't one of the best matches in company history but it was around ******1/4. Great stuff. The Briscoe Bros/Austin Aries d Age of the Fall in a NO DQ Match in a little over 21 minutes. Your typical crazy brawl that usually happens at every show and I am not complaining!!! A lot of the brawling was near me so that might be why I'm not complaining. Jay bled pretty big but I have no clue from what. Sinclair got knocked but again, no idea how. Forgot the other refs name but he came out and worked the match. Aries did an awesome dive on Jacobs. That I do remember. He is so good it's illegal. After Mark went thru a table, it was 3 on 2 and they had Aries destroyed in the middle. Jimmy grabbed the mic and told Necro to get a piece of that table over there, so Necro got it and Jimmy told him to hit Aries with it. They argued for a bit and Necro just walked out of the match as they continue building for Chicago. Anyway, Aries & Jay hit the doomsday and then, Jay won it with a Jaydriller on Black. Awesome brawl though it was pretty tired and hot by the end of this. SUPER SHOW!!! There's a reason why they're better than anyone else and for anyone questioning, just go to a show. Up next for me is Cleveland in 3 weeks. Got tix for the return date somewhere just outside of Toronto in Markham (I guess it's like the suburbs). Anyway, good luck topping last night's show tonight. Hopefully PPV comes to Toronto soon. TJ Packard {plug} |
