We've had power failures for the past two plus hours making it impossible to update, but we'll catch up.

Drew Montgomery b Brandon Tarn in one of the bloodiest matches of the year.  Tarn was enroute to winning a decision late in the third round, but was bleeding a ridiculous amount and ref stopped it.  It was one of those deals where both guys were almost swimming in Tarn's blood.  Montgomery was bleeding heavily as well.

Carl Seumantafa destroyed  Mike Cook with punches on the ground early in the first round

Wilson Reis won a three-round decision over Bryan Caraway with straight 30-27 scores.  Reis continually took Caraway down, much to the chagrin of the pro-Caraway crowd.  Reis won the points battle but did not come across as any kind of a featherweight division star as Caraway did the better in the stand-up.  The crowd continually booed the fight when Reis would get takedowns after  stand-ups were ordered.  He had good ground control and dominated positioning but never seemed close to a submission.

Rafael Feijao, with Anderson Silva and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in the corner, lived up to the hype and finished Travis Galbraith standing midway through round one with a series of hard knees to the chin and a few punches on  the ground.

Antonio Silva became the first Elite XC heavyweight champion beating Justin Eilers via a stoppage at :19 of round two.  Silva looked like a monster with a 257-218 pound weight advantage and his enormous features.  He dominated most of the round but lost a point when he had strong ground and pound but a punch to the back of the head called by Herb Dean.  Eilers came back late.  But Silva came out in round two to finish, overwhelming Eilers standing with punches, bloodying him up before it was stopped.  I can't say Silva looked like one of the world's top heavyweights, though.

CBS show is starting now.  Looks to be about 6,500 to 7,000 in the arena.  Not sold out but pretty full.

They've already announced the next CBS show for October 4th.

Shayna Baszler vs. Cris Cyborg is in the ring.

They showed Gina Carano on the screen.  She got more of a pretty girl celebrity like pop than a fighter pop.  I should mention this is far more of a Stockton Roy Shire wrestling crowd, even more than the Urijah Faber-Jens Pulver show in Sacramento.  Completely different audience than Anaheim last week or any UFC (although Sacramento UFC would be the closest).

Baszler, as usual, has Josh Barnett in the corner.  Jimmy Lennon called Cyborg "The toughest woman south of the Equator."  Cyborg trying knees but Baszler took her down.  She's gong for a kneebar.  Cyborg with a few punches from the top.  Cyborg got a few punches in  Baszler has a leg but couldn't do anything with it.  A little ground and pound late.  3:00 rounds feel too short.  10-9 Cyborg.

Cyborg threw punches and knees.  Baszler got behind her but couldn't get her down.  Cyborg let Baszler back up.  Good right by Cyborg.  She's defintely superior standing.  She's connecting with punches and knees and Baszler isn't looking too happy right about now.  Hard rights.  Great flurry of rights and lefts by Cyborg and Baszler was down.  However, Cyborg jumped on the top of the cage to celebrate but Steve Mazzagatti hadn't called the match.   Crazy shit.  So she had to do it again.  Cyborg is killing her again, but Baszler pulled guard.  Cyborg got up and was just pounding on her at the cage.  Cyborg put her down a second time and this time Steve Mazzagatti waved it off.  Loud "Gina" chant when this was over.  And now they are interviewing Carano at ringside but we can't hear it.  It doesn't take a genius to know what the fans want to see.  If this show draws any rating Cyborg was made a star.  MUCHO BUYS

Jake Shields vs. Nick Thompson to create the Elite XC welterweight title is next.

Shiels with an immediate takedown.  He's alrady got full mount.  Shields goig for a gullotine and got the tap in just over 1:03.  MMA Rule No. 546.  Do not take a title fight while studying for the bar exam.

Josh Barnett is in the cage wearing Zubaz pants.  For a moment I thought I was back in the 80s.  Someone must have told him something because I saw him two minutes later and he'd ditched those pants.  The DJ during the commercial break is telling everyone to chant "209" (the Stockton zip code) for Diaz.  The chant died quickly.  Not even sure if it made it to the airwaves.

Kimbo is being interviewed.  They'll show him clocking James Thompson but won't show the Diaz-Noons angle on the show tonight.  By the way, there have been no Noons family sightings.

Dana White's big announcement was just that UFC 89 would be airing on Spike.  He also gave the Chicago Sun-Times the promised first release of Anderson Silva vs. Patrick Cote as the main event of UFC 90.

Nick Diaz vs. Thomas "Wildman" Denny is next.  No 209 chant for for Diaz like they begged.  Denny is being introduced.  The Brooklyn Brawler never got so much heat in his life.  Very loud reaction for  Diaz.  Not St. Pierre in Montreal but my ears are ringing.

Now they're chanting 209.  This crowd is hot for this fight.  Denny took him down and is outpunching him.  Diaz's reaction time seems way slow and he's getting caught.  Denny took him down but Diaz is working for a Kimura.  .  Now he's going for an armbar but Denny escaped quickly.  Back trading and Diaz is getting hammered by punches and a knee.  Diaa is comning back.  Diaz with a hard punch.  Another trade.  Diaz is cut under the left eye.  Diaz rocked him late and put him down. Diaz put him down a second time.  Denny's in trouble.  Pretty much a fantastic round with Denny saved by the time limit.  10-9 Diaz, almost a 10-8

Denny wasn't recovered by the start of the second round.  Diaz was teeing off on him and put him down again, and after some hard punches on the ground, ref Josh Rosenthal stopped it.  This match played out perfectly.

Robbie Lawler vs Scott Smith for the middleweight title is next.

Good first round.  Each had the other in trouble.  Lawler threw a lot of high kicks but missed on them.  Lawler controleld the middle of the round but Smith hurt him late.  I'd go 10-9 for Smith.

Loud "Scotty" chant to start round two.  Body kick to Lawler.  Smith rocked him with punches.  Now Lawler coming back with hard punches but Smith back.  Both guys are bleeding.  Hard knee by Lawler.  Both bleeding.  Lawler connecting a lot now.  Hard knee to the stomach by Lawler.  Another knee by Lawelr and punch by the cage.  Lawler put Smith down and threw a hard knee.  Another hard knee by Lawler.  After more of a beating, Dean waved it off for a TKO for Lawler.

Marlon Mathias vs. David Douglas is next.

Trading punches andDouglas got on top and pounded him out in 12 seconds.

Anthony Ruiz vs. Jeromy Freitag is up.

Ruiz decked Freitaag, who then tried a takedown.  Freitag back  with knees.  Almost nobody is left in the stands.  Hard knees back and forth.  Ruiz with a knee to groin.  Ref Mazzagatti gave Freitag time to recover.   Good head kick by Freitag.  Trading .  Freitag threw a dkikc and Ruiz casuvbth it and then Freitag went for a choke but never had it.  Freitag with a takedown and Ruiz was looking to grab the cage to block but couldn't find the cage.   Freitag got a mount and Ruiz immediately went for a sweep.  Freitag has his back but now Ruiz is going for a takedown.  Ruiz on top at the end.  I'd go 10-9 Freitag.

Ruiz connected with some punches and bloodied Freitag's nose.  Ruiz got him to the ground.  Hard punch from the top.  Ruiz pounding on him from the top most of the round.  Ruiz 10-9.

Ruiz got the takedown right away.  Freitag was going for an armbar from the bottom but Ruiz blocked it and throwing elbows to the body.  Ruiz continus to punch and elbow the body.  Ruiz kneed Freitag low.  Ruiz with another takedown and throwing elbows to the head.  Short elbows and punches by Ruiz.   Ruiz continues to punch the face of Freitag.  More ground and pound.  Ruiz going wild with punches from the top as the round ends.  10-9 for Ruiz.

All 3 judges have it 29-28 for Ruiz.
