WWE house show report 7-25 Youngstown, OH PDF Print E-mail

Tony Chimmel tells us we can vote between Falls Count Anywhere, Two out of Three Falls, or No DQ for the main event.  No DQ gets a huge pop as if we don't see no DQ matches every month on PPV (or five times a week on TNA).

Layla awards some fans in the top row ringside seats for knowing WrestleMania was in Orlando.

1.  Kofi Kingston & Kelly Kelly defeated Paul Burchill & Katie Lea in 7:29 when Kingston pinned Burchill with Trouble in Paradise.  Good opener.  Kelly Kelly has improved a great deal and looked passable here.

Matt Striker cuts a promo saying the fans destroyed his dreams, and that he's facing a man making his WWE debut who has those same dreams and cares what the fans think.

2.  Johnny Curtis pinned Matt Striker with a backslide in 5:24.  The crowd was so hot for this show that Curtis, who has never been on TV, got "Johnny" chants against Striker, who most didn't realize still had a job.  Basic but solid match.

3.  Lance Cade pinned D'Lo Brown with his finisher in 9:23.  Good match, with the finish coming after D'Lo missed the Lo Down.  Respectable ovation for D'Lo after the match.

4.  Mickie James (w/a guest manager picked out of the crowd) pinned Beth Phoenix with a MickieT in 8:33 to retain the women's title.  Another good match.  After the match Santino comes to ringside and tells Beth he'll make her appy by retiring the "son um a gun" he's set to face tonight.

5.  Jim Duggan pinned Santino Marella (w/Beth Phoenix) in 18 seconds.  Marella posed for Beth at the bell, turned around, ate a clothesline, good night.  After the match, Santino fainted after a kiss from Beth, who carried Santino over her shoulder to the dressing room.

Intermission.

After intermission, Jamie Noble asks Layla out, who says yes as long as there's no trouble.

Out comes Kane.

Trouble.

6.  Kane pinned Jamie Noble with a Choke Slam in 37 seconds.  At least Jamie got a couple of shots in before the finish.

Chris Jericho and Lance Cade come out for a promo, putting over the Shawn Michaels injury angle.  It should be noted that Michaels was all over the advertising for this show and at no time before this promo was it announced he wasn't there.  The promo is so intense that security repeatedly kept going to one side of the ring to keep a larger fan from getting physically involved with Jericho.

7.  Cryme Tyme and John Cena defeated Chris Jericho, Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase in 18:30 when Cena forced DiBiase to submit to the STFU.  Match of the night and bordering on **** territory.  They followed the old Rock 'n' Roll Express formula:  Cena got beat down, made a hot tag to JTG, who got beat down himself before making a second hot tag to Cena.  Excellent match, and the pop for Cena was deafening (although there were a few boos).

8.  CM Punk pinned Batista in a no DQ match (with "73%" of the text message vote) in 14:05 to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.  Another good match which actually had the crowd thinking title change and popping for the false finishes.  The finish comes when Punk grabs a chair and Batista spears the chair into Punk, knocking himself cold.  Punk sold the spear and did a slow crawl into the cover.

The best WWE show in Youngstown in years.
