Alfonso Dantes, a former Southern California headliners and five-time NWA world light heavyweight champion when that was considered the major title in Mexico, passed away today at his home in Manzanillo, Mexico at the age of 65. No cause of death has been announced. Dantes & Mil Mascaras held the Americas tag team title when Mexican wrestlers became all the rage in Southern California in 1969. Dantes was named to the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame in 1996.
