A look at the decisions regarding hiring Mike Adamle, Freddy Prinze Jr, the reaction to Prinze Jr. on the first day, and updates on SummerSlam is our lead story in this coming Monday's issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.  You can read the issue today by signing up for a web site membership.  The membership will also include our traditional biggest issue of the year, the upcoming Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame issue.

The lead story gives some of the background of the Prinze hiring, notes on his first day, reaction by people in and around the company as well as thoughts by those who have been in the position of whether he can survive in the role and what it would take. We look back at the other new Hollywood writer brought in that didn't get as much coverage, as well as look at the best known celebrity wrestling writer and how it worked out for him, and how he differs from Prinze Jr.

We also talk about the Adamle hiring, the always changing  SummerSlam and teases of the entire card.

We also have a look at Elite XC's second show on CBS, the good, the bad, the ugly and what lessons were hammered home.  We also look at how and why Elite XC is changing, its future, where it dropped the ball.  We look at ratings, ratings compared to UFC, what can be learned from ticket sales as well as coverage of the matches themselves.

We also have notes on this week's Saturday Night's Main Event, as well as this coming week's Ring of Honor PPV show as well as notes on the next PPV show.

We have notes on changes coming to ECW, the selling of the Shawn Michaels injury angle, updates on the latest in house show bookings, who is responsible for the ECW shows with the ratings turnaround.  We also look at the C.M. Punk title reign, including why it happened, how it changed from the original plan, and where things stand with it.  We look at a major celebrity who once had a tryout for an on camera role on WWE television, notes on a major contract expiring, update on Jonathan Coachman, lots of thoughts on Smackdown today and WWE & TNA doing essentially the same type of angle and how each one is faring.

We have Hector Guerrero notes on Vickie Guerrero, a WWE star whose home was damaged by a hurricane, where WWE ranks on TV among the most watched sports programming as well as update on DVD sales, a former WCW star expected to be hired for a non-wrestling position, background on Jamie Noble, all the developmental news, as well as a dubious distinction of a WWE Films project.  We've got an update on Mysterio, as well as one of WWE's Fan Facts on TV which was blatantly dishonest.  We've also got business notes from the past week as well as highlights from all the house shows.

We also have the monthly business charts with house shows, TV ratings and PPV numbers.

We also look at AAA's coming to the U.S., and what can be learned about how the shows did as compared to the more famous early 90s shows.  We look at the difference in the U.S. culture, as well as differences in the promotion of the events.

We also have a look at the CMLL World Grand Prix, filled with TNA stars, a major event leading to a possible major stipulation event involving a TNA wrestler vs. CMLL wrestler, as well as update the working relationship between the two, and the latest Mistico vs. Perro Aguayo Jr. meeting.

We also have notes on the major Dragon Gate show of this past week.

We've also got our regular weekly detailed look at the ratings of the major shows, results from the major league arena events, as well as major TV show reviews.

--Randy Couture's book, "Becoming the Natural," will be No. 33 on the New York Times best seller list for 8/10.  Up to the point I've read, which is where he's about 20 years old, married a girl he got pregnant, and was cheating on her, I'd say the book is way up their when it comes to honesty as compared to most of the wrestling/MMA books.  It's world's better than the other MMA bios I've read.

--ROH PPV "Respect is Earned II" debuts tomorrow night on most PPV carriers (DirecTV doesn't carry it).  ROH also runs Manassas, VA tomorrow night and the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York for Saturday night.  The Saturday advance is in the ballpark of the first show there which drew more than 2,100 fans, so this is expected to be the second biggest crowd in company history.
PPV tomorrow and this is, as far as wrestling match quality goes, one of the top PPVs this year:
*Ruckus & Jigsaw vs. Kevin Steen & El Generico
*Claudio Castagnoli vs. Davey Richards
*Brent Albright & Delirious & Pelle Primeau vs. Chris Hero & Adam Pearce & Eddie Edwards
*Erick Stevens vs. Roderick Strong - this is a great  match.  Unless you've seen these two a lot, you'll really be surprised at how good this match is
*Nigel McGuinness vs. Go Shiozaki for ROH title - very good match
*Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black vs. Bryan Danielson &  Austin Aries - also a great match

--ECW did a 1.4 rating on Tuesday

They will do two more shows but that will be it 24.0%
They will last about one year 29.7%
They will get TV and have staying power and become the No. 2 promotion 14.5%
They will get TV and beat out UFC for the No. 1 spot 4.8%

--Brock Lesnar and wife Sable threw out the first pitch at the Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox game on Monday.  They plugged his 8/9 match with Heath Herring at the Target Center.

--Entertainment Weekly has a note about Freddy Prinze Jr. at http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2008/07/freddie-prinze.html  It's definitely being treated as a how they have fallen type of story.

--Pre sale for Bound for Glory on 10/12 in Chicago started today with the password ANGLE

--Todd Wright on The Sporting News radio network, who is a big wrestling fan ripped on WWE for Raw on Monday.  He mentioned he didn't attend live because he worked that night, but he records almost all the shows and buys the WWE PPVs.  He noted the show was sold out but then ripped on the product.  He said Mike Adamle was a broadcasting peer and praised him for his sports coverage, but said he can't call a match, didn't know the moves and didn't know the wrestlers and had no understanding of the product.  He said making him G.M. was even worse than making him an announcer.  He also ripped creative for putting Michael Cole in the ring.  He mentioned he's been trying to get one of his co-workers to open his eyes up to watch wrestling with him, and now has told his friend not to bother and he'd let him know later when the product was better because it blows right now.

--THQ announced $27.2 million in losses for the quarter, citing increased developmental costs, which would include both the new WWE Legends of Wrestlemania and the UFC Undisputed videogames. (thanks to Jereme Warneck)

--UFC has a press conference a week from today at the Mall of America Rotunda in Minneapolis at 1 p.m. with Dana White, Georges St. Pierre, Jon Fitch, Brock Lesnar, Heath Herring, Kenny Florian and Roger Huerta.

--There is going to be tremendous heat on Huerta as in the new issue of "Fight Magazine," he ripped on his UFC and said he doesn't care if he fights for UFC or if he fights somewhere else.  Huerta and UFC have had an issue regarding his new contract as they are far apart on money for some time.  He's got one fight left after the match with Kenny Florian on 8/9.

--Nick Lembo of the New Jersey Athletic control board noted his reaction to the New York Times story yesterday that made a big deal about MMA fighters with Cauliflower ears.  He said that he spoke with the author and noted the Cauliflower ears is something that has always been prominent among wrestlers and not something new and unique to MMA.  He said the author just eliminated any mention of that.

--The Sellersburg (IN) Police was looking at the date of the Mike Levy incident at the IWA Mid South show where he was beaten down with weapons in a semi-shoot situation.  In a report on WLKY TV, Police Chief Russ Whalen said he was concerned about the incident, but also said that he didn't think it could be actionable because Levy didn't press charges and it's hard to ascertain where make believe ended and reality began.  Ian Rotten was on the TV news last night saying it was part of the show and said he thought it was local promotional rivals trying to get them run out of town who brought the tape to police and said it was a scripted "gang-style" beatdown, all an angle and said while the punches were hard, it's not ballet and that Levy was going to be brought back and was happy about it.  Levy was in a match with Mickie Knuckles on 6/21 in the city and when her face started swelling after a head-butt, she started throwing stiff shots at him.  Several others also beat him down after yelling about how she was going on national television and because he didn't know how to work, her face would be a mess.  The whole incident was pathetic.
