By Ty Dawson ROH returned to Cleveland with a fantastic show with a spectacular, must-see main event. The building seemed full (in the 400 range I read elsewhere), but I guess that was not enough for ROH because Cary pretty much shot down anyone who told him that they have to start coming back. The building was steaming hot, but the crowd still was very loud all night long. Pre show matches Shane Hollister/Mitch Franklin b Ninjas Johnny Gargano b Sami Callihan... both these guys got excellent reactions considering they are semi-local. They also had a really fun 3 minute match. Alex Sugarfoot Payne/Crank b Benjamin Sailor/Nate Bash... People loved Crank. His gimmick is basically a guy who chugs Red Bull and goes crazy. He has Red Bull holders on each side of his tights. Main show Kevin Steen b Jigsaw w/ Swanton Bomb... People were into Steen. No Julius Smokes. Fun opener. Delirious b Rhett Titus after 5 running knees to the corner. Rhett had Rick Rude-esque airbrushed tights with Daizee's face on the back. Delirious came out stoic. They brawled outside until Jimmy Jacobs came out persuading Delirious to join the AOTF. Delirious threw Rhett face first into the barriers and Rhett bled buckets. His face was completely covered. Delirious preceded to hit knee to the corner after knee to the corner until the referee eventually stopped it. Daizee Haze came to the ring crying and telling Delirious "I was wrong. I really like you," but Delirious left with the Age of the Fall leaving Daizee in the ring crying. Crowd was hot for the match and finish, but went flat for the stuff at the end. Bryan Danielson b Kenny King in the last minute before the 15 minute time limit expired with an armbar. King looked good and was given a lot of offense. Sara Del Ray w/ Sweet N Sour Inc. b Sassy Steffy in 30 seconds after just mauling her with a standing axe kick. This led to Sweeney calling out Ruckus and Jigsaw.... Adam Pearce b Ruckus after interference from SNS. Ruckus got in all of his big moves. Austin Aries b Tyler Black in a surprisingly quick match in what was billed an Age of the Fall Rules match by Tyler Black which meant "scientific wrestling"... Unfortunately not as good as expected... This match cooled the crowd off a tad. Post-match, Jacobs came out with Delirious and brawled with Aries which led to the Briscoes coming out. The Briscoes b Jacobs/Delirious after a Doomsday Device. They brawled all over the building. Delirious gave Jay a brainbuster threw a chair. A Briscoe doublestomped Delrious on a table and it didn't break. Did not look pretty. He eventually just superfly splashed him from the top rope through the table on the floor. Excellent brawl if that is your cup of tea. Daizee came in somewhere in here and chased off Allison Wonderland. Erick Stevens b Claudio Castagnoli by DQ after Claudio wouldn't get Stevens out of the corner. Good match with a dull finish that the crowd didn't buy. A lot like the DQ finishes they have been doing on ECW over the past few months. Claudio went after the referees until Danielson ran him off. Chris Hero/Go Shiozaki b Roderick Strong/Brent Albright when Hero hit Roddy with a rolling elbow with a loaded elbow pad. Excellent, hard hitting match. People believed in Albright as a face. Nigel McGuinness b El Generico to retain the ROH title. This match has to be seen by all. It was ROH PPV-main event level match. It told the same story as Nigel-Tyler Black, but was even better in my opinion. Nigel hit El Generico with absolutely everything and Generico kept coming back. The crowd went from expecting a good match with an obvious Nigel victory to being completely sure they were about to see a title change. After seeing every match of Nigel's title run, this is probably the best match. Definitely worth checking out. {plug} |
