Thumps Up
Two thumbs wayyyy up Best Match: Undertaker/Edge Hell in a Cell Worst Match: Matt Hardy/Mark Henry ECW Title Another great PPV put on by the WWE. Thumbs way up. Jeff/MVP - Solid opener. MVP to be is one of the true MVP's in the WWE. He can talk, wrestle and has that "it" and hopefully he continues to climb up the ladder. What was with JR telling MVP to "look in the mirror" though? I know a lot of times JR's commentary can echo real life. But good opener. Santino/Beth vs. Kofi/Mickie. It is what I expected. Good comedy match, Santino and Beth is a great combination, and I look forward to more air time from them going forward. Hard to believe that an interview segment was one of my favorite moments on a PPV, but wow. HBK and Jericho really had a great moment out there tonight. Can't say much more than that. Just incredible, and I can't wait for this feud to continue. Punk/JBL World Title - One of JBL's best matches in a while, and CM Punk was good as ever. Loved the clean finish for Punk. He'll get a huge ovation in Chicago tomorrow night. HHH/Khali - HHH did the best that he could...... Batista/Cena - Still hate the fact that they had this match on so little hype, but it really did not need it, and would of surpassed any hype. Great match. Loved the finish with Batista going into a rage and winning it clean. 3 straight PPV loses for Cena now? I expect a rematch, where Cena goes over....and then wait till WM for the rubber match? We'll see what happens. UT/Edge - Like Dave said, worth the price of the show. Tremendous. Over 30 minutes of phenominal brawling and ring psychology. Just tremendous. Lots of "holy shit" moments. Will be interesting to see where Edge goes from here. Just a tremendous show though. The last 2 matches (especially UT/Edge) stole the show, and Punk/JBL was good as well, plus the tremendous HBK/Jericho promo. Again, thumbs way up from me. Nate Albaugh West Des Moines, IA This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it thumbs WAY UP! Best: Michaelses-Jericho segment; HIAC Worst: HHH-Khali SmmerSlam went above and beyond the call of duty and beyond expectations based on build. The build for most of the card was OK at best, save for the three big matches (HHH-Khali, Cena-Batista, Edge-Taker). Hardy-MVP was a good opening choice, and told a good story of MVP countering Jeff's usual high-risk manuvers. I also like that Shelton figured into the match as his last two matches were affected by the feud. Seeing a three-way for the US title coming and liking what could be there regardless of winner. The intergender match was fun and I was a bit surprised that Beth/Santino but the stip fit them winning better. Beth is the new Mamacita, and I'm not minding it too much. The segment with Shawn. Rebecca, and Jericho was perfect. It baited the crowd into believing Shawn was indeed retiring (and at his debut PPV, which a fine second to Wrestlemania) then switched hard when Rebecca, bless her for going through with this, took the punch from Jericho. The post-punch internal conflict with Shawn was extremely well done, as he came out looking at peace with the decision to leave and was very concerned for Rebecca's well-being afterwards. I should have felt cheated by the too-short Hardy-Henry match, but I don't. It allows more time to build toward a good title match, and maybe figure the Atlas situation out. Cool belt graphic, too. Hope Punk is okay after his match with JBL. The crack to the back of his head looked brutal and obviously accidental. The match wasn't very good but didn't lose the Sam's Town crowd (big plus) and featured a clean solid win, which was a good thing all around. HHH-Khali wasn't all that good either match wise, but Khali sold the Pedigree well. Had Cena-Batista taken place in 2005 when the first real seed was planted, I truly believe it would have been nowhere near as good as the result tonight. I was burnt out real quick from the way-off-par build, but the match was a really good one. After every HIAC before it were nasty bloody affairs, it's hard to fathom a nearly bloodless one, but the spectacle of the finish made up for it. The spot outside the cell seemed improvised, but they did well to come up with something on the spot. Edge coming out in Renfield face totally fit his story in the match. Hopefully the fiery finish was ceremonial and symbolic and not played to any sort of reality. Anyone watching or knowing of Days Of Our Lives should be familiar with the Stefano DiMera, who so far has more lives than a cat and Undertaker combined. Terrie Neilsen Las Vegas Thumbs up for SummerSlam 08 (Best Match - Taker/Edge) (Worst Match - ECW Title) This year's SummerSlam was a great PPV I thought. Taker and Edge had a great Hell in a Cell match. A little bit slow, but they both put themselves through hell for that match. The post-match chokeslam and fire sequence was great too. Cena and Batista had a good match, not the classic we all might have expected however. Very fun finish to the match and a dangerous Batista bomb Cena took off the top-rope. Triple H managed to get a basic structured match out of Great Kali. Not a bad match at all. MVP and Jeff Hardy had a decent match. I understand they did the Henry/Hardy finish to continue that fued, but 33 seconds? Very stupid. I think Matt Hardy can get a good bout of Henry, so they should let them go for at least 10 mins or so. Santino & Beth are entertaining. Beth is so much more interesting when she's smiling and entertaining. The Shawn & Jericho segment was just great. Great story-telling in that promo. Didn't like how Jericho seemingly legit hit Shawn's wife. There's no exuse for that, as much as the world respects and likes Chris. Going far for the art. Vince Russo wouldn't understand why that segment was great. CM Punk and JBL was a surpringly good bout. The bump of the heads was harsh looking. I hope they don't have concussions. Not a bad PPV. Worth the money. David Zimmerman Missouri
