Tony Chimmel started the show saying we could text to decide the stips on Rey vs Kane (No DQ, Falls Count Anywhere, or 2 out of 3 Falls.) 1. Jamie Noble d. William Regal No Layla in Jackson. Regal worked Noble over most of the match and then Noble rolled him up for the surprise win. Jillian Hall was introduced as the guest hostess, but unfortunately her mic didn't work. She ended up asking a fan up in the nose bleeds where Wrestlemania was held last year. He got it right so then was moved to the front row. Chimmel ended up asking the question to the fan after Jillian's microphone malfunction. 2. Snitsky d. Hacksaw Jim Duggan Snitsky jumped Duggan during his entrance and the match ended quickly after Snitsky gave Duggan the boot of doom as he was going for the three point stance. On a sidenote, I forgot this match happened as I was typing this up until I checked my camera to make sure I didn't miss anything. 3. Santino Marella d. Charlie Hass to retain the IC Championship Marella came out and cut a promo about how he hated being in Jackson, MS even though it was the capital of MS. The problem was, he was in TN. Funny promo but a bit hard to hear. Hass came as Santino (to Santino's music wearing his attire.) They had a pretty basic match, with Haas imitating a few Santino moves. Finish saw Santino get the win. 4. D'Lo Brown d. "The All American American" Jack Swagger Swagger was pretty good with facials and such. D'Lo had a kid from the crowd as his guest manager. D'Lo won with the Frog Splash. 5. Beth Phoenix The Glamazon d. Mickie James to retain the Women's Championship Fun match, one botched spot that caused some concern if they were okay. Beth won with the Fisherman (woman?) buster. (Intermission--afterwards, Jillian came out and picked a kid to be the guest time keeper. Sadly, no singing.) 6. Cody Rhodes, Ted Dibiase, & Manu d. Cryme Tyme and Kofi Kingston Another fun match. I was impressed with how well the heels worked as...heels. Lots of funny interaction between Rhodes and Dibiase. Manu looked impressive too. Kofi got a great reaction, which surprised me for some reason. Rhodes pinned JTG (I think) with a DDT after everyone got involved at the finish. 7. Rey Mysterio d. Kane in a No DQ Match Rey hit a few dives on Kane and they brawled a bit with a trashcan lid and chair. Finish saw Kane bring the steps into the ring, but ended up going into them face first. They had some fun near falls and teased the 619 a while. He finally hit it on the third try to a huge pop after Rey turned a chokeslam attempt into a rana, sending Kane into the ropes. Rey then hit a springboard splash and got the pin. Afterwards Kane threw a fit and hit the steps with a chair a few times, then chased Chimmel and some refs around ringside. 8. Chris Jericho d. JBL & Batista in a Triple Threat Match to retain the World Heavyweight Championship Typical triple threat match with one guy sitting out while the other two faced off. JBL & Jericho worked together until Jericho hit JBL with an enziguri near the end. Batista made a big comeback, including a double spear. Eventually Lance Cade ran out and distracted Batista, who went after him on the floor. Meanwhile, Jericho slid over and got the pin on JBL. After the match, Batista laid out Jericho and Cade. Overall a fun show. Crowd loved Batista, Rey, and Kofi and really didn't like Jericho, Kane, and JBL. People didn't seem to know Swagger, but he did just debut. We went to the autograph signing to see Santino and Beth this afternoon in Memphis. Huge line and they stayed over to see everyone. They were both super nice and easy to talk to. Just wanted to throw that out there that Glamarella are indeed as awesome as they seem. {plug} |
