ROH PPV taping results 9-19 Boston PDF Print E-mail

By James Brown

Pre-show:

"Dirty" Ernie Osiris defeated Frankie Arion

"Brutal" Bob Evans defeated Alex "Sugarfoot" Payne

Main Show:

Chasyn Rance w/ The YRR def Mitch Franklin with an awesome looking piledriver off the ropes.  I can't even describe it.  Franklin was sporting a new lumber jack gimmick, with a name change I believe.  However, the sound was so bad I couldn't even hear it.  Crowd got behind Franklin, who used an arsenal of chops and cuts to Rance's body and legs.  Decent opener.

PPV Taping:

Austin Aries arrived and they did a count down for the ppv opening.  Aries cut a promo on Age of the Fall with Jimmy Jacobs coming out and exchanging words with Aries.  From behind Delirious attacked Aries.  A referee came out and rang the bell.  Aries def Delirious by submission.  Good stuff.  I like Delirious as a heel, but have a feeling ROH will switch him back face.  Their was a post-match beatdown by AOTF on Aries, including Jacobs doing a sentan of the top, to the floor and thru a table on Aries.  Tyler Black was telling Jacobs before he jumped to think about the main event and the belts.  Jacobs did not oblige and had to be carried to the back by his stable mates after the jump.

Sara Del Ray squashed an unknown female brought out by Sweet and Sour Inc.  My God, Sara's look is awful.  She went for a decent looking woman, to the second coming of Bull Nakano.

This led to Brent Albright and Erick Stevens def Eddie Edwards and Adam Pearce.  Started off slow but built to a very good and solid match.  Edwards looked fantasic.  Stevens needs the mohawk back.  The finish saw Albright hit the half nelson suplex on Pearce.

Part of SNS Inc. remained around ringside, bringing Jerry Lynn out to a great ovation.  He challenged Hero, due to viewing a dvd in which he saw (which I didn't, so I may be confused) Hero beat down Lance Storm?  I don't know.  Again, sound was terrible.  Jerry took it to Hero and looked great.  Hopefully ROH does something special with him.  Lynn kicked out of one roaring elbow and made a comeback.  However, Del Ray brought out the loaded elbow pad and Hero scored a knock out blow to pin Jerry.  Lynn got a standing ovation as he exited.

American Dragon def Go Shiozaki and Claudio Castagnoli in a three way elimination.  Claudio was disqualified for attacking the ref early on.  Danielson clearly has a knee problem.  He looked slow at times, but picked it up towards the end.  The finishing sequence was great and very dramatic with Go landing a number of chops, punches, and lariats.  Dragon countered with 12/6 elbows and Cattlemutalation attempts.  The referee stopped the match when Go was unable to respond.  Good stuff.

Intermission.  ROH returns to Boston May 9, 2009.  Yikes!  Could they hate this market and less?

The Briscoes won a scramble over The Vulture Squad, YRR, and Necro Butcher.  Ruckus looked awful.  He hits 1 spot out of every 4 attempts.  I hate Jigsaw, but at least the guy is a work horse.  Like Edwards, ROH needs to establish King and Blade.  Which of course means they were the ones pinned.  Highlights of the match saw Necro do a flip off the top turnbuckle to the outside, and him also being launched off the apron thru some chairs he setup in the aisle way.  Short and sweet.

Daizee Haze def Madison Eagles.  I had never seen or heard of Ms. Eagles.  She was very, very tall, slim and athletic.  Boy did she kick ass.  I heard after the show she was in the U.S. for a few weeks from Australia.  It's too bad.  She looked good.

Rhett Titus def Josh Daniels with a rollup.  Not much to say here.  Clearly filler and a time killer.  Daniels looked ok, but has lost something in the past few years.  Jobs to Jack Swagger and Rhett Titus....ouch!  Titus is a good comedy act.

Bobby Cruise informed the crowd that the PPV Taping is about to continue!

Nigel McGuiness def Roderick Strong to retain the ROH Title.  The ending sequence saw Nigel land numerous lariat's, but Strong kept kicking out and coming forward.  Nigel finished him off with the Tower of London.   I wish they had kept Roddy a heel.

In the Main Event, Kevin Steen and El Generico def AOTF to win the ROH Tag Team Titles.  Match of the night, with many near falls, including one that was by far a three with Black not kicking out.  The place exploded, but then St. Clair said two.  Total bullshit.  Steen eventually locked on the Sharpshoot, but Black made the ropes.  Ending saw Steen hit the Packaged Piledriver on Jacobs, rolled him to Generico, who then finished him with a brain buster.  A second time, the place exploded.  This time the bell rang and St. Clair said three...yay!  About time these guys got the belts.  A nice celebration ensued with Steen and Generico going out into the audience to celebrate.

I'd give the show a thumbs up.  Nothing fantastic, but overall a solid night of wrestling.  A majority of the audience also frowned upon the return date being 8-9 months away.
