Welcome to our live coverage of the Elite XC show from the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, FL.  We're looking for your thoughts on tonight's show, so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

This place is spooked.  We'll update on the status of the main event in a separate story when we get official word.

Nicolae Curry def. Jorge Boechat when he had a reverse triangle on and began elbowing him until he tapped.

David Gomez def. Bryan Hamade when Hamade went for a takedown and got caught in a guillotine.

Mickey Gomez def. Lorenzo Borgomeo with an armbar in the second round.

Conor Huen vs. Edson Berto is up.  That's bad because Seth Petruzelli vs.  Aaron Rosa was scheduled in this spot.  Huen won a real good fight after a ref stop in the second round due to strikes.

Sorry for lack of play-by-play but this has been one insane day.

Oh, god there's more.  I've just been told Ken may be out again, which explains no Petruzelli.  Frank Shamrock is also in waiting as Slice's side hasn't been open to fighting Petruzelli.

Nothing has been said to the live crowd about the main event.  This has changed six times in the last several hours, but as of this moment, the scheduled main event is not happening.  Frank  Shamrock is still at the announcers desk and at this moment is getting ready for a stand-up but as of 15 minutes ago was awaiting word if the commission would allow him to do the main event or if Slice would accept him as a new opponent.  Petruzelli's match with Aaron LaRosa hasn't happened yet because Petruzelli is also a possible opponent for Slice.

In the arena right now they are showing the Kimbo Slice vs. Tank Abbott match.

Nobody in the arena knows anything is wrong.  Nothing has been announced.  Apparently Slice's camp has agreed to the Petruzelli match and it's on.  Nothing  has been said officially though.

Cristiane Cyborg vs. Yoko Takahashi has torn the house down.  They need to show this one on the CBS show.  Takahashi hung in and took a tremendous beating and has survived until the third round.  Cybog unleashed major fury on her but couldn't put her away.  She just delivered a nasty kick to the face.  Both are tired at this point.  Wicked spinning backfist by Takahashi.  Still, Cyborg is outstriking her.  Cyborg threw a flurry at the bell.  Cyborg should win 30-27.  Standing ovation for the fight.

30-26, 30-27, 30-27 for Cyborg.

Ken Shamrock was interviewed as the CBS show started.  He described it as an injury that occurred during a light workout earlier today, not last night, over his left eye.  Ken needed six sutures in the eyebrow.  They had three different doctors look at him but none would clear him.  Ken apologized, Ken said he's fought through worse things.  They opened the CBS show with this.  It was announced to the live crowd about 20 minutes before the CBS show started.  Ken still wants the fight.  Ken gave a promo.  Dr. Fields was interviewed and said he was rolling and got an accidental head-butt resulting in a laceration over his eye.  He went to the to the Cleveland Clinic and got six or seven sutures.  The sutures were in place.  He wanted to fight.  The doctor said anyone with a recent laceration can not fight and can further injure his eye.  Fields said he thought it would be 45 days to heal the cut properly.

Hulk Hogan, Brooke Hogan and Tito Ortiz are all here.  I haven't seen the Hogans but we were told they are on the way.  Ortiz has been around.

Hulk arrived.  It was a huge reaction.

Murilo Ninja Rua vs. Benji Radach opens the show.

Radach said his style was Face Smashing Fu.  His trainer, Bas Rutten said that Radach can beat Anderson Silva.  He came out aggressive and threw punches but Rua staggered him and put him down.  Radach is back and hurt Ninja with a right.  Ninja is taking a lot of punches and for some reason Radach tried to take him down.  Rua dropped Radach and then collapsed himself.  Ninja reversed on him and is punching Radach's face.  They are near the cage.  Radach with a knee.  Radach tried a guillotine and more punches.  Rua is bleeding.  Radach may be tired from coming out so fast.  Ninja dropped him with a knee and Radach then reversed and is on top.  Ninja trying to isolate an arm but Radach got away.  Ninja throwing elbows from the bottom.  Rua trying a heel hook.  Radach back outwrestling him.  Rua trying another heel hook.  Rua now reversed and is on top with 30 seconds left.  Some punches and elbows but I think Radach's early damage gives him the round, but it's close.

Rua with hard knees to the body.  Tried a high kick.  Another hard knee to the body by Rua.  Radach with a brutal punch that would have stopped a lot of people.  He was staggered momentarily and is back on the attack.  Rua moving forward, tried a takedown, but Radach blocked the whizzer and both are on their feet.  Rua tried a knee, lost balance and went down, and Radach scored with a few hard punches and it was stopped.   Good fight.

As far as the crowd goes, this is a standard sized NHL arena.  There is nobody in the top level but the rest of the arena is packed.  They also have screens blocking one side of the arena.  Looks like 8,000 here as that was it's set up for plus all the luxury boxes are full.  Crowd make-up is mostly 20s and 30s, a few older and some kids, not too many.  Similar to a Strikeforce crowd but not as well dressed.  I'd call it a cross between Strikeforce and high-rent WWE in the Austin era when it was hot, but minus the kids.  Maybe 15% women, mostly on dates.

Gina Carano vs. Kelly Kobold is next.

Carano got a superstar reaction but not over the top superstar if you get my drift.  Matt Hardy, not Jeff.  Troy Waugh is our referee.

Fans booed the hell out of Kobold, though.

They showed Cyborg drinking at ringside.  Gina chant.  Kobold wants to take her down and smothering her.  Kobold failing at the takedown.  Greco clinch.  Carano mostly blocking the takedown and it's a stalemate.  Crowd is booing.  Good knee by Kobold and Carano back with a punch.  Now trading.  Carano with a knee.  Kobold bulled her into the cage and going for the takedown again.  Kobold is more aggressive and fighting her fight.  Carano connected more.  Trading at the end and both connected.  Standing ovation.  Crowd going bonkers.  Very close round.  Maybe Carano slightly.

Exchangs ee good fromboth but Kobld slowed the fight when she wanted to.  Carano with some good punches and a knee to the body.  Now they are tied up again.  Another trade.  Kobold with some punches.  Good left by Carnao.  Good right by Carano.  Hard right by Carano and Kobold took her down with 17 seconds left.  She did some ground and pound.  Carano had the best punches but this was another close round.  Kobold 's right eye is cut pretty good and  Gina doesn't have a mark.  I'd give the round by Kobold.

Kobold immediately going for a takedown.  Carano blocking.  Kobold bulling her against the fence going for a takedown.  Ref broke them up.  Carano with a hard knee and kick.  Kobold again bulling her into the fence.  Carano went for a choke with 50 seconds left.  But Kobold got out.  Trading again.  Good kick by Carano . Good front kick and more good kicks.  Round over.  Huge standing ovation.  I have 29-28 Carano.

Scores were 29-28, 30-27 and 30-27 for Carano.  Cyborg looked better than Carano but both had good matches and the set up for the match went well.  Well, somnething had to.

Andrei Arlovski vs. Roy Nelson is up.  Arlovski's reaction was nothing close to that of Carano.

Nelson bulled him into the fence.  Nelson got the takedown.  Now he's got side control.  Nelson went for a straight armbar.  Nelson just held him down and the people are booing.  A stand-up was ordered.  Good knee by Arlovski at 1:40 in.  Fans are booing this.  Ref broke them from a clinch.  Now Arlovksi is starting to kickbox.  Nelson bulled Arlovski into the fence again.  Nelson's round close 10-9.  Fans booing the round.

They are interviewing Tito Ortiz.  Nelson tagged Arlovski with a left to the side of the head.  Now Nelson is bulling him against the fence again.  Good left by Arlvoski.  Now he has him in trouble.  Good knees up the center and punches by Arlvoski.  Nelson is in a lot of trouble.  Arvloski just put him down and it's over.  Arlovski rectified himself with the strong finish.

They just announced Nick Diaz vs. Eddie Alvarez as official for 11/8's Showtime card.

Jake Shields vs. Paul Daley for the welterweight title is up now.

Good sprawl by Daley to block the first takedown attempt.  Daley avoided his upper body takedown as well.  But Shields got him down and got side control.  Now he's got full mount.  Shields with short punchds and body punches.  Elbows and punches.  More punches from the mount.  Elbow to the head by Shields.  Lots of punches.  Thoght armbar but then changed his mind.  Daley reversed and threw an elbow.  Daley's hurting him with elbows.  Not enough  to win the round so 10-9 Shields.

Daley connecting with punches and knees.   Shields tried a takedown but Daley got on top and stood up.  Shields is breathing hard.  He tried another takedown and failed.  He tried another and this time got the match to the ground.  Daley is back on his feet but Shields took him  down and got another mount.    Shields with punches and elbows.  The elbows are connecting but Shields doesn't have the power in his punches.  He thoguht armbar again and decided against it.  Went for the armbar and Daley tapped.

They just showed clips of Cris Cyborg vs. Yoko Takahashi.  Too bad time is running late as that was the fight of the night by far.  If people saw that fight, a Carano vs. Cyborg match would be as over as a woman's fight could get but I don't think they showed enough for people to really get a feel for how good it was.  Overall this a good show live because of the women fights, Radach-Rua and Berto-Huen.  Loss of Shamrock has to hurt it with the public and with CBS.  Main event is going into the ring at 11 p.m.

Kimbo vs. Seth Petruzelli is next.

Realistically, Petruzelli is going to be a tougher match than  Shamrock would have.  Fans booed Petruzelli.  Kimbo got a big reaction, but nothing compared to Le, Liddell, Shamrock, St. Pierre, Griffin, etc. on UFC and Strikeforce shows.

There is a Tyson feel to Kimbo as he came out,  Kimbo threw a haymaker and slipped, may have caught a jab,  and Petruzelli just beat the shit out of him in 14 seconds.  It was like Kimbo became Ken Shamrock.  Kimbo tried to bodyslam the ref for stopping it.  What an end to a crazy night.

We'll be back with a radio update on the site very late tonight.  I don't know how this can be viewed by anyone as a positive.
