--The debut of Smackdown on MyNetwork TV looks to have done a 2.4 rating based on the fast nationals.  The company was thrilled with that number as it was, by far, the highest rated show in the history of the network.

 

--The fast nationals rating of the 9-11 p.m. time slot for CBS on Saturday night was a 2.65.  Final ratings will be out tomorrow.

 

--Steve Austin is still scheduled for Cyber Sunday in three weeks

 

--No serious injuries came out of last night's show.  Chris Jericho either had a tooth broken or completely knocked out, as well as a busted lip.  Shawn Michaels was banged up pretty bad.  At his age doing a match like that with bad knees and a bad back really takes its toll.  A lot of great performances last night.

 

--Matt Striker missed the show last night due to the death of his father.  Our deepest sympathies to him.  He was expected to be back Tuesday but that wasn't 100% 

 

--The first ever New Japan Pro Wrestling show took place on this date 36 years ago in Tokyo, with Karl Gotch pinning Antonio Inoki in the main event

 

--UFC television for the week has the Anderson Silva special showing matches with Chris Leben, Rich Franklin, Travis Lutter, Dan Henderson and James Irvin at Wednesday at 9 p.m. leading to Ultimate Fighter.  That show is based around two fighters, one of whom is Junie Browning, getting drunk to the point Dana White considers giving both the boot.  There will be three hours of programming on Friday night with an Unleashed episode at 9 p.m. headlined by Georges St-Pierre vs. Matt Hughes and the 1/23 Fight Night airs at 10 p.m. headlined by Josh Burkman vs. Mike Swick.  You can miss that one.  Saturday night will have two hours of Unleashed from 7-9 p.m. including Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva, St. Pierre vs. Matt Serra and Hughes vs. B.J. Penn, followed by UFC 87 headlined by St. Pierre vs. Jon Fitch and Brock Lesnar vs. Heath Herring from 9-midnight.

 

--Tryouts for the next season of Ultimate Fighter will be on 10/20 in London, U.K. at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre with fighters needing to be there at 9 a.m., and 10/27 in Chicago at the Crowne Plaza O'Hare Hotel, also fighters needing to be there at 9 a.m.  They are looking for fighters who can make 170 and 185 pounds.  16 fighters in each class will be chosen, 8 from the U.K. and 8 from the U.S., and everyone will have to fight once on the first day to make the house.  You have to be 21 years old because heavy drinking enables you to get more TV time.

30 years ago:  Rick Martel & Tommy Rich beat Ole Anderson & Stan Hansen, and the main event saw Andre the Giant beat Ernie Ladd in a Texas death match

 

--1HWE on Saturday night in Fort Worth before 250 fans for a World Class reunion show that included Bill Mercer, Marc Lowrance and Skandor Akbar.  They gave Mercer a lifetime achievement award.  Chad Hart (Gary's son) and Chico Torres also worked the show (thanks to David Farmer)
