Raw in Birmingham house show report for November 11 PDF Print E-mail

Match 1 - William Regal (w/ Layla) beat Santino Marella with the same finish as on Raw the night before (knee to the head).  After the match Regal did the same basic promo as after his IC Title win.  Crowd was initially into Santino (he entered first) but quickly turned on him and cheered Regal big style.

Match 2 - Gene Snitsky beat D-lo Brown with a boot to the chest.  It was was it was.  Crowd semi-into D-Lo.

Match 3 - Beth Phoenix beat Candace Michelle (with Mickie James as special referee).  Mickie reluctantly counted the three after the glam-slam.  We were in a section full of kids and while the crowd in general weren't desperately into this we did get a Beth Phoenix chant going to which the kids joined in.  Candace really is wasting her time at the moment.

Match 4 - Kane beat Haas Hogan with the chokeslam (I think).  Kane was laughing all the way through this at Haas' antics and was completely out of character.

Match 5 - CM Punk & Kofi Kingston beat Manu & Cody Rhodes after the GTS on Rhodes.  CM Punk was the only person anyone cared about in the one.  After the match the played Punk and Kingston's music back and forwards about 10 times.

Intermission

Match 6 - Rey Mysterio beat Randy Orton with 619/west coast pop.  Kelly Kelly was ring announcer here for no reason other that for her to be paraded in front of the crowd.  Plenty of RKO chants going but because of where we were sitting Rey appeared to be super over here.

Match 7 - Shawn Michaels beat JBL in a "Special Challenge" match (who knows what the special challenge was - we never did find out).  Michaels won with his superkick.  Before the match JBL went on an extended rant about the USA's superiority.  Tony Chimmel was joining in on this and got a few jeers from our side of the ring for his trouble.

Match 8 - Chris Jericho beat Batista with the Code Breaker.  I predicted Jericho would be cheered heavily by this croud and I was wrong big-style!  After the match Batista gave Jericho a Batista Bomb to leave the crowd and the kids happy.

Overall a good show with basic matches and some fun spots.  Jericho and JBL were most hated here (especially JBL's anit-UK rant) and Rey, Batista and Regal got the biggest pops.  Match of the night was Shawn Michaels and JBL closely followed by the main-event.
