This show is from the HP Pavilion in San Jose.

With the exception of about four rows, the entire upper deck is curtained off.  Live HDNet coverage begins at 10 p.m. Eastern time.  This show has by far the least local buzz of any show since they've begun running the Pavilion.  No Frank Shamrock or Cung Le, nor even name stars like Gilbert Melendez or Josh Thomson (Thompson was scheduled to headline but suffered a toe injury in training a few weeks back).

Zakary Bucia (2-1) vs. Adam Steele (0-0)

That was quick.  Bucia got a guillotine in 35 seconds.

Alvin Cacdac (4-4) vs. Jose Palacios (3-1)

Palacios is a San Shou fighter from Cung Le's gym and has a cheering section.   Godo low kick nearly took Cacdac off his feet.  Palacios with a hard takedown.  Cacdac backdoored out.  Palacois has good low kicks and did a nice leg sweep.  Cacdac hurt Palacios with a right.  Cacdac snuck another right in.  Strong kicks by Palacios.  Cadac shot in quick but had a hard time completing the takedown.  he got it but Palacios sprawled out and turned Cacdac to his back.   Nice reversal by Cacadac in the waning seconds.  10-9 Palacios.

Cacdac shot in for a takedown but Palacios sprawled and is pounding on his back.  Caccdac on top but Palacios has a triangle on.  Cacdac out and now trying a choke but Palacios back to his feet.  Palacios with takedowsn.   But now Cacdac has him on his back.  Cacdac got his back, going for a choke, and Palacios tapped.  Good fight.  3:10 2nd round

Brad Royster (1-1) vs. Darren Uyenoyama (4-2)

I don't know why Uyenoyama is in a dark match.  He's going to the Dream featherweight tournament that starts in March.  Uyenoyama got  couple of takedowns and worked for a choke.  Royster got the top late and got some punches in.

John McCarthy returns to refereeing later in the show, doing Joe Riggs vs. Luke Stewart and Bobby Southworth vs.  Renato Sobral.  For useless trivia, McCarthy is currently reading Bret Hart's autobiography.

Another takedown by Darren.  He's on Royster's back throwing punches.  He's switched to full mount.  Royster regained a half guard.  He's throwing some punches.  Hard punches now.  He's back to full mount.  Now going for a triangle, then an uma plata.  Now an armbar.  Escape by Royster.  Nice sequence.  Good round.  20-18 Uyenoyama

All standing.  Royster throwing a lot of kicks.  Darren got a takedown in the last minute.  Now full mount.  Dareen is bleeding real bad.  Blood is flying out, not sure from where.  Looks like the nose.  He's pounding him like the blood caused him to go wild.  He was losing the round until the finishing sequence so I've got it 30-27.

30-27 across the board for Uyenoyama.

Nik Theotikos (5-1) vs Luke Rockhold (2-1)   This  opens TV

Theokitikos tried a guillotine but Rockhold broke it and got on top punching the ribs.  Decent sized crowd.  Tons of body shots by Rockhold from the top.  Rockhold spun around and got his back.  Both hooks are in and he's punching.  Got a choke and it's over.  Good performance by Rockhold.  3:06

Joe Riggs (28-11) vs. Luke Stewart (6-1)

McCarthy got a decent ovation, I guess as big as any ref outside of Japan would get.  I don't think people realize it's his first match back.  Riggs looked drawn at 170.  Stewart took him right down.  Riggs tried to grab the cage to avoid it until he was told to let go.  Riggs back up.  Sewart working awfully hard to get another takedown.  Riggs hit Stewart with a good shot.  Stewart doesn't want to be standing.  Stewart shot in and took Riggs down again.  Stewart has side mount.  Riggs got back half guard.  Not much happening.  Stewart didn't do much damage, but Riggs didn't do anything so Stewart 10-9

Riggs got a leg trip takedown.  Riggs with a few punches.  Some good punches by Riggs .  He 's pounding on Stewart.  McCarthy called it off.  2:05

Riggs pointed out Cain Velasquez in the crowd and said he was going to beat Brock Lesnar

Lina Kvokov (0-1) vs. Kim Couture (0-1)

Randy Couture and Gina Carano are in Kim Couture's corner.

Couture got a reaction.  Lina is here to lose.  Couture is so much better than her it's not even funny.  Kim's beating the hell out of her with punches and knees.   Kvokov is turning her head.  She wants out so bad.  Couture beating on her.  Knees by Couture.  Kvovok is gassed now .  Just eating shots.  Kvokov finally just quit after two shots that hit behind the head.  Sloppy fight but it got the best reaction so far. 1:44  She got a nice reaction after.

Duane "Bang" Ludwig (17-8) vs. Yves Edwards (34-14-1)

Edwards got the takedown right away.  Ludwig has a cut on his upper back behind the shoulder.  Edwards with side control.  Edwards moved to full mount.  Fans started to boo as not much action in this round.  10-9 Edwards

Ludwig establishing his striking game.  Edwards took him down but Ludwig this time got back up.  He's using knees and kicks.  Trading knees to the body.  Ludwig clinching and landing knees to the body.  Hard body kick but Edwards got the taekdown off the kick.  Side control by Edwards.  Ludwig now actually trying a takedown.  Got it, too.  But Edwards back up.  Now Edwards trying a takedown and got it.  Close round.  I'd go Ludwig by a hair because he had a better striking game and nobody really hurt the other on the ground, so 19-19 going into the third.

Good high kick by Ludwig.  Edwards tried a takedown but Ludwig ended up getting the takedown.  Still, it's not to his benefit to be there.  Ludwig has "Hayabusa" on his trunks.  And he just did a Mongolian chop.  Ludwig grounding and pounding.  Edwards back up.  Trading knees from close in.  A big flurry can win for either guy at this point.  Ludwig throwing several kicks .  Front kick by Ludwig.  Edwards got the takedown with 30 seconds left.  Ludwig back up.  Edwards got another takedown.  It's close but I've got Ludwig 29-28.

They introduced celebrities.  When Le was introduced he got a bigger reaction than anyone on the show so far.

Bobby Southworth (9-5) vs  Renato Sobral (30-7) in a match for the Strikeforce light heavyweight title.  Sobral gets it.  Good music and he walks in like he's a star.  Southworth didn't get booed coming out.  Nobody cheered him either.  Southworth physically is inthe best condition I've ever seen him in.  Not sure that'll help him as he's a huge underdog to retain.

When Southworth was announced as being from San Jose he got a big reaction, both cheers and boos.

Southworth got the first takedown and was able to stop all of Sobral's takedowns.  However, late in the round, Sobral threw an elbow to the nose which not only bloodied the nose but opened a nasty cut over Southworth's right eye.  Southworth got the okay to continue at first, and threw Sobral down at the end of the round.  10-9 for Sobral for the key strike but Southworth had control most of the round.

Between rounds, the doctor looked at the cut and told John McCarrthy to stop it so Sobral won the championship.

Scott Smith (13-5) vs Terry Martin (18-5) is the main event.

Smith the favorite, largely because he's from California.  Martin with an overhand right and Smith countered with a right to the jaw and knocked him out in 24 seconds.
