Welcome to our live coverage of the UFC's Fight for the Troops from Fayetteville, NC. No poll tonight after the show. We'll do it for Saturday and Sunday this week. Prelim results Justin McCulley b Eddie Sanchez via unanimous decision Dale Hartt b Corey Hill - Stopped early in the second round when Hill suffered what at least appeared to be a broken leg off a low kick Ben Saunders b Brandon Wolff with a quick knockout in round one. Saunders tied Wolff up in a Muay Thai clinch and landed knees of death. Saunders looked awesome with brutal knees and kicks, destroying Wolff's face and leaving him with a giant hematoma on his forehead like has never been seen in UFC. Steve Bruno b Johnny Rees via choke midway in round two Luigi Fiorvanti b Brodie Farber via unanimous decision Jim Miller vs. Matt Wiman open the show. Miller was called last week about the fight and had just come back from Aruba for his honeymoon, so if he loses, UFC owes him one. Both went balls out in round one. Miller outstriking and went for a guillotine early. Wiman was pulling trunks while caught, I guess hoping for a penalty and break. Wiman's brother, a serviceman, is there. Wiman escaped and scored with a big slam. Miller tried another guillotine. Both guys were tired and Wiman connected more late. 10-9 Miller. Miller got the takedown and Wiman back up. Miller unloading with some punches. Miller throwing tons of punches at Wiman who is just holding on. Miller with another takedown. Some ground and pound. Miller beat him down most of the round with Wiman just holding on. 20-18 Miller. Wiman came out throwing early but Miller took him down and largely ground and pounded him the rest of the round, scoring a second takedown after Wiman got up. He was going for a choke late but never really came close. Easy 30-27 win for Miller. Good match, although the serviceman actually booed in round three when Miller held him down. 30-27, 30-26 and 30-27 for Miller.
Tim Creuder vs. Nate Loughran is next. Creuder was just killing him. Loughran had zero punch defense and Creuder connected on just about every punch and most kicks. Creuder just doesn't seem to have a lot of power in the punches but he rocked Loughran over and over. Easily 10-9 Creuder. Creuder took him down and did some ground and pound. Loughran was cut on the left eye. After a stand-up was ordered, Creuder started taking over with a lot of hard punches late in the round. Another 10-9 Creuder. The fight was stopped after the round ended. Early indications are a broken rib by Loughran. Steve Cantwell vs. Razak Al-Hassan is next. Cantwell caught Al-Hassan with some good punches, better strategic even though Al-Hassan threw more blows. Cantwell was setting Al-Hassan up with low kicks before firing a head kick, and following with a takedown. He moved to mount, threw some elbows and got the armbar. Al-Hassan didn't submit but his arm was bent in a sick position, I mean way hyperextended, and ref Mario Yamasaki stopped it late in round one. Mike Swick vs. Jonathan Goulet is next. Swick put him down on the fourth punch in a combination and hammered him with 20 rapid fire punches while Goulet was trying to survive before it was stopped in 33 seconds. They just did a series of commercials, one with Mick Foley, and another with a series of UFC stars like Couture, Lesnar, Rich Franklin, Stephan Bonnar, Kenny Florian and others for the Intrepid fund to build a hospital to help servicemen with brain trauma. Josh Koscheck vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida in the main event ends the show. Koscheck connected with a hard right and he was out on his feet and he took another shot and was out cold. That's an all-time highlight reel finish. |
