Welcome to our live coverage of WWE's Armageddon PPV from the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, New York. We're looking for your thoughts on both this show as well as last night's Ultimate Fighter finals, so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match from each show to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Matt Hardy vs. Vladimir Kozlov opens the show. It could have been worse. Hardy worked about as well as you could have given Kozlov's comically awful selling. They were trying to push Kozlov as a monster and put him back in the main event scene. Kozlov dropped Matt on top of the post and pinned him with what was a rock bottom, but of course they weren't about to use that term. Edge and Vickie were laughing at Matt's loss. Chavo accused Vickie & Edge of taking out Jeff Hardy at Survivor Series. Vickie denied it and told Chavo to get her coffee, with two lumps of sugar. Vickie was being really bossy with Chavo. Today's PPV poll is who attacked Jeff, Edge, HHH, Kozlov or someone else. Hornswoggle hit Eve in the ass with the plastic hammer. Finlay told Hornswoggle not to come to ringside during his match. He was all sad. Rey Mysterio vs. C.M. Punk in the finals of the IC title tournament is up now. William Regal and Layla are at ringside. Crowd was quiet but this ended up as a hell of a match. They pulled everything out, including Mysterio using La Mistica and all sorts of near falls back and forth. Punk blocked a huracanrana and turned it into the Go To Sleep for the pin. He hit it far too well, as the knee nailed Mysterio hard in the face and probably broke his nose as there was blood splattered all over Mysterio's face. Punk even had to check on him when it was over. Mysterio looked like he was spitting up blood and really rocked as he left. No angle with Regal other than Punk glaring at Regal and Layla as they looked smugly at him. Jeff Hardy did a promo in the complete darkness. They are doing a video feature on the JBL/Shawn Michaels program. JBL came out and introduced Michaels. Michaels did a long, but excellent promo trying to make this storyline make sense. The explanation is that he paid his medical bills, helped support his family and then the stock market went bad. He hates JBL and finds him reprehensible but wasn't going to let his brothers and sisters lose their home nor not be able to afford to send his kids through college, and doesn't want people to see him working at a grocery store or limping into high school gyms. The idea is they are using Shawn Michaels as the character in the movie "The Wrestler." Crowd totally didn't know how to take this, but there were chants of "You sold out" and he was lightly booed. Mark Henry vs. Fit Finlay in the Belfast brawl is next. Of course Hornswoggle came out. Lots of weapons shots using kendo sticks, garbage cans and the ring steps. After Henry broke a first shillelagh over his knee, Hornswoggle threw Finlay a second one. He cracked it over Henry's head for the pin. It was better than their TV matches have been, but it was one of those matches that you were glad when it was over. Santa Claus (Charlie Haas) brought presents for the Divas. Santino and Beth showed up and Santino was bragging about Beth winning the Slammy award. The Boogeyman showed up and Santino ran away. When he opened the door, it was Goldust under the mistletoe. Boogeyman & Goldust and Jesse & Festus and IRS sang Christmas Carols. Mr. Kennedy then told people that no matter what, don't do drugs, and plugged his video. Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler had to do the fake laugh even though nobody in the audience was laughing. Batista vs. Randy Orton are up next trying to save this. They did a great video build-up for the match playing off the Evolution days. But I was shocked at just how little heat there was. Rhodes & Manu interfered early and were kicked out of ringside. Match was slow paced and dragged, although they did all their moves at the end. There was just something missing from the Batista side. Batista ended up winning clean with the Batista bomb. They left it like this feud will continue. Maria & Mickie James & Kelly Kelly & Michelle McCool vs. Victoria & Maryse & Jillian Hall & Natalya are next. The red team against the green team. McCool pinned Hall with the Styles clash. I guess in honor of Joey. I guess the whole deal was just to set up Khali coming down for a kiss. McCool and Maria fought over it. McCool was supposed to kiss him but she walked out, which I guess is her official heel turn. I didn't sense the fans recognized it. Mae Young is coming to kiss Khali. They kissed. Khali was pretending to like it but you could tell he wasn't that thrilled by this. John Cena vs. Chris Jericho is next. This doesn't necessarily mean Jeff Hardy is winning the title, but would increase the odds of it. Real good match. Shorter than most title matches but the series of reversals in the last three minutes were excellent. Cena kicked out of the codebreaker and Jericho kicked out of the FU. Finish saw Jericho with the Walls of Jericho and Cena powered out and reversed into the STFU and Jericho tapped out. So the poll on who attacked Hardy. 65% think Edge, 7% think HHH, 5% think Kozlov and 23% think other. Edge vs. Jeff Hardy vs. HHH ends the show. Jeff Hardy won the title. A hell of a booked finish. HHH used the pedigree on Edge and went for the pin but Hardy came off the top with the swanton on HHH and Jeff pinned Edge to take the title. A few minutes earlier Kozlov came in and attacked HHH as he had Edge beat and then when Hardy was on the top rope, he shoved Hardy off the top rope. A lot of great spots with the most memorable table breaking spot being Edge spearing Jeff through the Smackdown announcers table. |
